Man Utd set cut-price Tyrell Malacia transfer fee for Celtic as Ruben Amorim exchange sparks desperate PSR plan

Daily Record07-07-2025
The defender was on a January shortlist of Hoops' targets and is now available for a bargain price
Celtic have been told the bargain price Manchester United would accept for out of favour full back Tyrell Malacia.
The Scottish Premiership champions has been on the hunt for left-back Malacia in the winter window after failing to get bring Kieran Tierney in early from Arsenal despite having a pre-contract agreement in place.

And after Greg Taylor's departure for PAOK it's a similar story for Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers as he looks for a left-back with towering Dutch defender Justin de Haas reportedly on agenda with Famalicao holding a £3million valuation.

But Malacia now appears to be available for a similar fee after PSV Eindhoven - who the Dutch international joined over the Hoops - failed to trigger an option to buy in the 25-year-old's deal.
before reporting for pre-season training to allow the defender to search for a new club.
Malacia signed from Feyenoord for around £13million four years ago but has struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford.
The Manchester Evening News has revealed that signed a four-year contract at Old Trafford back in 2022, United need to sell him for £3.22million to avoid a loss under the profit and sustainability rules (PSR) with the club willing to accept a lowball bid as they are "unlikely to inundated with offers."
There appears to be little way back for Malacia at the Red Devils following a public back and forth with boss Ruben Amorim.

In January - shortly before his exit for the Eredvisie -Amorim admitted he didn't believe the full-back could fit into his system.
He said: "A player like him is a full-back. He played with the national team outside and inside, but sometimes in this system, sometimes it's hard for him because he's not so offensive.
"He can play as one of the three defenders, if we have more possession and more control of the games. It's a really difficult context for him."

And just days later after returning to the Netherlands - where he came through the youth ranks at Feyenoord - Malacia took a cheeky dig back declaring he was "finally playing good football again."

Things could get a lot worse before they get better

After the emphatic win over Viktoria Plzen last week I was looking forward to the game against Dundee, but in true Rangers fashion we made a complete mess of 1-1 draw left me pondering what are we actually trying to do here?We have all seen the passing stats regarding John Souttar and Nasser Djiga. However, another issue is that striker Cyriel Dessers had 11 touches inside the Dundee box and didn't register a legitimate shot on a massive issue, especially when you are coming up against a team that uses the low is not a new thing for Rangers. We move the ball at a snail's pace. Souttar spends too much time in possession, which allowed Dundee to get back into position and cover passing lanes. That's why you find yourself in a position where the two centre-backs have the most midfield needs a reshuffle. Joe Rothwell looks like a number eight playing as a six. Nico Raskin should be in the starting line-up as the six and Mo Diomande looks completely three in midfield play far too wide. The full-backs don't look comfortable inverting. Instead, all three - James Tavernier, Max Aarons and Jefte - look much more at ease Gassama is the shining light in attack, but if we are being so safe in possession for 75 minutes of the 90, it's easy to see why we aren't bothering teams at the top end of the pitch. It hardly screams recipe for games into the league season, we are trailing, and it looks like it could get a lot worse before it gets shall see how things go tonight in Plzen. After last week it should be a stress-free evening, but so far, you can't trust this team or manager to give you that.

Former Rangers star's daughter to be on huge reality TV show

Demi de Boer, daughter of Ronald de Boer, has been confirmed as part of the cast for the upcoming series of Expeditie Robinson – the Dutch version of the global smash-hit series Survivor. The 29-year-old, who is an influencer with more than 140,000 followers on Instagram, is heading well out of her comfort zone later this month as the show kicks off on August 31, reports the Scottish Sun. Announcing the news, Demi shared a snap of herself on Monday, August 11. The caption reads: 'Ahhhh, the word is out! Expeditie Robinson from August 31.' Expeditie Robinson aired in the UK on ITV for two series between 2001 and 2002 before being revived by the BBC in 2003. The reboot, however, only lasted for one series before being axed. Demi will be joined by a host of stars, including Olympic sprinter Churandy Martina, who represented the Netherlands at the games in 2008 and 2012. Steven Gerrard to Wrexham tipped after just one game as Ryan Reynolds told he'd be perfect

Steven Gerrard has been tipped to replace Phil Parkinson if he fails to deliver for Wrexham in the Championship, despite the manager being well-liked by the club's Hollywood owners Wrexham have been told they should appoint Steven Gerrard as manager if Phil Parkinson fails to deliver Championship success. The Welsh side are just one game into their first campaign in the second tier for 43 years. The Red Dragons were ahead in the first half of their opening fixture at Southampton on Saturday thanks to a Josh Windass penalty, but were dealt a blow as the Saints snatched victory via late goals from Ryan Manning and Jack Stephens. Despite the heartbreaking nature of the defeat, there was cause for optimism for Wrexham as they gave a team that was only relegated from the Premier League in April a good scare. Former Sunderland boss Parkinson has plenty of credit in the bank with Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney after leading the club to three promotions in a row. However, some pundits have questioned the 57-year-old's previous track record in the division. Parkinson has managed 141 games at Championship level whilst in charge of Hull City, Charlton Athletic and Bolton Wanderers, but only won 26 times and averaged less than a point per game. Reynolds and McElhenney have now been told by ex- Blackburn Rovers and Wrexham striker Matt Jansen that Liverpool legend Gerrard would be a great fit if Parkinson struggles to notch up points. Speaking to Jansen, who had a brief spell in North Wales in 2009, said: "I don't think Gerrard has had a terrible run. He did well at Rangers, then went to Villa and they were mid-table. It's just that Unai Emery's done so well since. "Gerrard's been out in the Middle East, but I think he'll want to come back and do what Frank [Lampard] has done, take a Championship club with ambition and one that has a real chance of getting promoted. "If Wrexham struggle, that could be a good fit for him. He'd definitely have the backing, and with his contacts, I'm sure he could attract some big-name players too." Gerrard began his managerial career by overseeing Liverpool's under-18 team, before taking charge of Scottish giants Rangers in 2018. The ex- England midfielder spent three seasons at Ibrox, helping them to win the Scottish Premiership title in 2021. His success saw him appointed as Aston Villa 's head coach in November 2021, but he was sacked just 11 months into the role due to poor results. Gerrard's 18-month stint at the helm of Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq also proved turbulent and he has been without a job since January. Wrexham seem unlikely to rush into any drastic decisions about Parkinson's future so soon into the new season. The manager has been well-backed in the transfer market by Reynolds and McElhenney, signing eight players so far this summer, and is hopeful that more new arrivals will follow. Speaking after the Southampton game, Parkinson also held out praise for players who performed a crucial role in helping them to reach the Championship. "We want to keep strengthening the squad so it's competitive enough to give us a chance in this division," he said. "We're bringing players in to help the existing players. "As much as I'm pleased with the new lads today, Max [Cleworth], Brunty [Lewis Brunt], outstanding performances. Barney [Ryan Barnett], first half he gave that left wing-back so many problems. "George Dobson, great, Matty James, great. That means a lot. We're not bringing players in and writing them off. We want to see them step up and we saw that today."
