Prep talk: Maximo Adams fuels Sierra Canyon's bid for state title
That says a lot, because during the playoffs, Adams has scored 20 or more points three times while averaging 17.7 points in helping the Trailblazers reach Friday night's Division I state championship game against Stockton Lincoln at Golden 1 Center.
His development has been critical to Sierra Canyon emerging from Mission League play and making the state final with tough wins over Redondo Union and JSerra.
His older brother, Marcus, has been a standout at Cal State Northridge this season. Adams seems to have become more comfortable and confident, making free throws, rebounding and contributing key baskets. He's been assigned to guard some of the best players in Southern California, from Nikolas Khamenia of Harvard-Westlake to Tyran Stokes of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame.
All those experiences should show up in the Division I final, because he has reached peak form entering the final game of the season and creating excitement for his senior season as he continues to gain strength and experience. ....

Ex-LB compares Davante Adams and Puka Nacua pairing to another star NFL duo
Much has been written about the new combination of Puka Nacua and Davante Adams with the Los Angeles Rams. Both are widely productive pass-catchers and make the L.A. offense even more formidable than it already was under Sean McVay. But for former NFL linebacker Mant'i Te'o, the duo is even scarier than advertised. He told The Rich Eisen Show this week that the Adams deal is the "most dangerous signing for a defender" because of what he brings to the offense. Te'o explained that Nacua and ex-Rams receiver Cooper Kupp played the positions similarly. Adams, meanwhile, gives the Rams a "true X receiver" akin to what the Cincinnati Bengals have with Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Teo said that Nacua is the Chase-esque player who can be moved around the line of scrimmage, while Adams is more of a Higgins-style player that can run up field and catch the ball over anyone. That, in combination with Matthew Stafford and Kyren Williams, is "scary" on offense, according to Te'o. This is what the Rams were going for when they swapped Kupp for Adams this offseason. While Adams is already 32, he's been a prolific pass-catcher his entire career and can now unlock levels of the offense that Kupp couldn't in his previous role with the team. The hope now is that Adams can elevate the team from playoff to Super Bowl contender in 2025.

Jets QB Justin Fields updates toe injury sustained during training camp
The New York Jets were given a scare but thankfully only a quick one. During 2025 NFL training camp, new quarterback Justin Fields went down with an injury. He was carted off the field but worries were quickly quelled. Head coach Aaron Glenn were among those who confirmed it was not serious. Fields had a toe injury in the end but barely missed time at training camp. The QB then spoke to the "Up & Adams" show from training camp and confirmed he is feeling well. Renfrow, who missed the entire 2024 campaign due to ulcerative colitis, signed a one-year deal with the Panthers this past spring. Canales highlighted Renfrow's performance following last Saturday's practice. "It's just the Hunter Renfrow I remember," Canales told reporters. "He looks healthy. Despite being in a pretty crowded wide receiver room, Renfrow has defied the odds and made himself an early favorite for Carolina's initial 53-man roster.
