Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande will reprise their roles as Elphaba and Glinda for act two of everyone's favorite musical, hitting a theater near you this fall. After the blockbuster release of Part One in November 2024—which ruled the box office and earned 10 Oscar nominations, along with a soundtrack that topped many a Spotify Wrapped—fans have been patiently waiting for the news of the second film. Will Elphie and Glinda reunite? What of Fiyero? Who will play Dorothy? Herein, everything you need to know about Wicked: For Good. Who's returning in the cast of Wicked: For Good? The main ensemble—Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West; Ariana Grande as Glinda the Good; Jonathan Bailey as Prince Fiyero; Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible; Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard; Ethan Slater as Boq; and Marissa Bode as Nessarose—will all return. Their stories are far from finished and there might be a couple of character changes along the way. And, an addition! Dorothy Gale, of the original Technicolor Wizard of Oz, might appear in some capacity. Eagle-eyed viewers will have spied her anonymous cameo at the beginning of Part One, and fans speculate she will be in For Good. But who will play her? It's tightly under wraps, though internet sleuths theorize that 15-year-old Irish actress Alisha Weir will be slipping on Dorothy's silver slippers. Weir played Matilda in Matilda the Musical (2022), and appeared at Wicked: Part One's UK premiere wearing a pair of silver ballet flats. Hmm… What's the plot of Wicked: For Good? 'What's nice about movie two is it's so different from movie one that it doesn't feel like we're talking about what you just saw. It's the new chapter,' said Jon M. Chu in a recent interview with Vanity Fair. The second act will follow the same story as the original Broadway version. Picking up where we left off in Part One, Elphaba and Glinda have parted ways: While Elphaba is in hiding, declared an enemy of the state of Oz, Glinda becomes a mouthpiece for the government, in the grips of the Wizard and Madame Morrible. Meanwhile, Fiyero, Glinda, and Elphaba's love triangle persists, and Nessarose and Boq's relationship hits the rocks. The trailer promises endless action, music and romance. What about the music in Wicked: For Good? For Good's soundtrack will be similar to the Broadway original's Act Two. Tracks like the titular 'For Good,' the dramatic 'No Good Deed,' and power ballad 'As Long as You're Mine' will be making an appearance. What's more? There are two new songs, written by composer Stephen Schwartz and performed by Erivo and Grande individually. 'They were necessary in this movie to help tell the story,' said Chu. The musical fantasy film, which arrives in theaters Nov. 21, is the sequel to Wicked, which opened in 2024. Wicked returned to theaters for a single night to coincide with the release of the trailer Wednesday. The preview shows Glinda (Grande) and Elphaba (Erivo) meeting in secret as Elphaba evades the wizard. "There's no going back. This is between us -- the wizard and I," Elphaba says in the trailer. The trailer also previews such songs as "No Good Deed" and "For Good." "You're the only friend I ever had," Elphaba tells Glinda. "And I've had so many friends," Glinda responds. "But only one that mattered." The Wicked films are inspired by Gregory Maguire's 1995 book and the 2003 Broadway adaptation. The story explores the origins of "The Wicked Witch of the West," and "Glinda the Good" from The Wizard of Oz, inspired by the Frank L. Baum novel. Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for Wicked: For Good, teasing the sequel's emotional storyline. Director Jon M Chu said in an interview that Part 2 focuses on the consequences of choices from the first film. The film will be released on 21 November. At the time of writing, the clip has over 2.2 million views and counting in just 7 hours. The sequel, which will be released on 21 November, exactly a year after the first, tells the origin story of Elphaba (Erivo), the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda the Good, played by Ariana Grande, from The Wizard of Oz. Wicked: For Good is an adaptation of the second act of the 2003 stage musical Wicked, which is adapted from Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. The second film, which was previously known as Wicked Part 2, was officially titled Wicked: For Good in December last year. The name refers to the duet between Elphaba and Glinda, about how their friendship changed their lives forever. In the two-minute clip, Elphaba is shown hiding, preparing to confront the Wizard, as she declares, 'This is between us, the Wizard and I.' Meanwhile, Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) and his squad are seen hunting Elphaba, Glinda is shown getting married, and Dorothy arrives. The clip opens with Erivo's stirring performance of No Good Deed Goes Unpunished and ends with a heartfelt duet of For Good featuring Erivo and Grande. 'There's a lot of soul searching in movie 2. They're asking, 'Is this the right decision that you made?,' he said. Wicked: Part 1 was a box office hit, grossing US$755m worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing musical film adaptation, according to The Guardian. The film garnered 10 Oscar nominations, winning two for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.
