Former Oklahoma head coach not interested in school's AD opening
Bob Stoops was hired to coach the Sooners during Castiglione's first year at the helm. He brought OU back to national prominence, coaching in Norman from 1999 to 2016, and winning the national championship in 2000. Additionally, he served as the interim head coach for Oklahoma's Alamo Bowl victory over Oregon to close out the 2021 season, after Lincoln Riley bolted for Southern California. Stoops helped guide the team and fanbase through a rocky season and became even more of a legend in Sooner Nation during a difficult time.
More: Social media reactions to the news of Oklahoma AD Joe Castiglione retiring
Castiglione, OU's AD since 1998, isn't retiring immediately, but the search is on to replace him. However, it looks like Stoops won't be in the running for the gig.
At Oklahoma's press conference on Tuesday to officially announce Castiglione's transition, Stoops was in attendance, and Carey Murdock, who covers OU for On3 Sports and SoonerScoop, asked the former coach about his interest in the AD job.
"Oh no, no, no, no," Stoops said. "If I wanted another job, I'd be a head coach again. At a university or somewhere. No, no. That job would never have been for me."
Stoops has coached in two versions of the XFL and currently coaches in the UFL, a spring football league. He initially coached the Dallas Renegades before the team became the Arlington Renegades. If Stoops coaches again in 2026, it'll be his fifth season of spring football. He won a championship for Arlington in the XFL in 2023. He clearly has no interest in being an administrator and even told Murdock that people still call asking if he's interested in taking a college head coaching job.
As for who could replace Castiglione, it looks like Mississippi State AD Zac Selmon, who tutored under Castiglione for many years, is one of the front-runners. Texas Tech AD Kirby Hocutt is another one of the prevalent names in the conversation as well.

Best college football stadiums rankings by Yelp, Tripadvisor, Google reviews
Oklahoma State has been playing college football in what is now called Boone Pickens Stadium for more than 100 years. It's the oldest home field in the Big 12. But the money infused by the Cowboys' biggest booster and stadium namesake (before he died in 2019) transformed the place into a state-of-the-art facility over the past 20 years ‒ and to rave reviews. The feedback is in at this point and the changes have been a big hit. Boone Pickens Stadium had the best reviews of any college football venue in the country ahead of the 2025 season as judged by the ratings systems at Yelp, Tripadvisor and Google. It had a 4.8 (out of 5) star rating based on more than 1,700 combined entries on the three services. Famous fields like Alabama's Bryant-Denny Stadium and LSU's Tiger Stadium from the SEC, The Big House at Michigan and Clemson's Memorial Stadium were also among the familiar favorites that landed in the top 25 based on the reviews by users. But the list was slightly different than traditional surveys of the country's best college football stadiums, with a few notable snubs that just missed the list. Boone Pickens Stadium, for instance, slotted in at No. 25 in USA TODAY's recent ranking of college football stadiums. The Big 12 actually had the two best-reviewed stadiums among the 136 Football Bowl Subdivision schools based on the average combined ratings doled out on Google, Yelp and Tripadvisor over the years. Kansas State's Bill Snyder Family Stadium had the second-best combined rating in the country. The SEC did lead the way with four of the top 10 best-reviewed stadiums and six of the top 25 best stadiums in college football, according to Google, Yelp and Tripadvisor. The Big 12 followed closely with five stadiums on the list, while the Big Ten had four. There were also seven Group of Six conference schools with stadiums that made the top 25 based on ratings and reviews, with Hancock Whitney Stadium, where Sun Belt Conference member South Alabama plays its home games, finishing among the top five overall. Here's a full breakdown of the top 25 college football stadiums in the country based on Google, Yelp and Tripadvisor ratings entering the 2025 season: COACHES POLL HOT TAKES: SEC whips Big Ten in preseason, but not playoff College football stadium rankings 2025 Note: Rankings based on average star ranking at Google, Yelp and/or Tripadvisor. Steelers countdown to kickoff — No. 31: a history of the number and who wore it best
The Steelers countdown to kickoff is here — and we're at 31 days until Pittsburgh faces off against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. In the spirit of the countdown, we're taking a look at the history of No. 31 and the players who wore it best. Current Steelers No. 31 wearer: CB Beanie Bishop One of the most surprising rookie breakouts last season — CB Beanie Bishop is the current No. 31 wearer on the Steelers roster. After signing with Pittsburgh as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 NFL Draft, Bishop clearly had a chip on his shoulder — snagging four interceptions in just six starts as a rookie. His role in 2025 is expected to be far less impactful after two huge cornerback additions this offseason in Darius Slay and Jalen Ramsey, but his development should skyrocket with two veteran presences in the secondary. Last five Steelers to wear No. 31: Best No. 31 in Steelers history: S Donnie Shell The greatest Steeler to wear No. 31 is without a doubt S Donnie Shell — who signed with Pittsburgh after going undrafted in the 1974 NFL Draft. Over the course of 14 seasons from 1974 to 1987, Shell played in 201 games for the Pittsburgh Steelers — responsible for 51 interceptions, the third-most by a Steeler all time. During his Pittsburgh tenure, Shell won four Super Bowls alongside the legendary Steel Curtain defense — as well as being named to five Pro Bowls, earning three First-Team All-Pro selections, and one Second-Team All-Pro selection. He was also recognized and celebrated on the Pittsburgh Steelers All-Time Team, the Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Honor, and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020. Shell's impact on the game and his part in creating the Steel City dynasty is why he's the best Steeler to ever wear No. 31.
