Robert Lewandowski accuses manager of "betraying" him as he refuses to play

Robert Lewandowski has lost the captaincy with Poland after sitting out recent games but has been left fuming with the head coach for how he's handled the saga
Poland icon Robert Lewandowski claims he was "betrayed" when he lost the armband after claiming he will never play for his country whilst Michał Probierz is the head coach.
The Barcelona frontman, who is his country's record goalscorer, has been left fuming by the series of events that saw him stripped of the captaincy as he lamented the manner in which he found out. Lewandowski had copped heavy criticism in the Polish media after making himself unavailable for games against Moldova and Finland this month.

He cited "physical and mental tiredness" after a long season with his club as well as and a recent hamstring injury. Lewandowski was replaced by Piotr Zielinski as captain on Sunday, but claimed his situation had been agreed with Probierz.

The 36-year-old also questioned how certain information became public and insists he should never have been informed about the changes over the phone.
Lewandowski told SportoweFakty: "I got a surprise call from Probierz with the information that he had decided to take away the armband. I was not prepared for it at all, I was putting my children to bed. The conversation lasted a few minutes.
"I didn't even have time to tell my family what had happened, because a few moments later it appeared online. I've been wearing the armband for 11 years and playing for the national team for 17. It seemed to me that such matters should be handled differently.
"Everything was communicated over the phone. It really shouldn't be like this. The coach betrayed my trust. I've always given everything to the national team, it's always been the most important thing to me, but I'm very hurt by what happened."
The ex-Bayern Munich maintained he was not angered by Zielinski replacing him, handing his full backing to the Inter Milan star, but believes the coach didn't back him.
"It's not even about the decision regarding the armband, but the way it was communicated to me," he added. "I really don't care about the armband itself. I believe in Zieliński and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for him. I have the impression that the coach caved in to the media pressure. He broke agreements we had and that's why I'm surprised by his attitude."

REVEALED: Aberdeen's Ross McCrorie sell-on percentage as Bristol City's ex-Don linked with £3million Udinese move and potential bidding war

Former Aberdeen utility man Ross McCrorie could stand to net the Pittodrie club another BIG pay-day if he leaves Bristol City this summer. The 27-year-old has been linked with Italian Serie A side Udinese, who are reportedly eyeing a £3million swoop for McCrorie – who Aberdeen sold to Bristol for £2m in 2023. While it has always been common knowledge, the Dons inserted a sell-on clause into their deal with the Robins for McCrorie, The Press and Journal can confirm the percentage due to the Pittodrie club is 20%. In further good news for the Reds during their own summer rebuild, Norwich City and sides in US Major League Soccer have also been credited with an interest in McCrorie, raising the possibility of a bidding war which could increase his price-tag further. If Udinese land defensive midfielder/right-back McCrorie for £3m, Aberdeen stand to pocket a tidy six-figure sum. McCrorie made 114 stars for Aberdeen between 2020 and 2023, having joined on an initial loan-to-buy deal from rivals Rangers, before signing for the Dons permanently in January 2021. The one-cap Scotland international made 26 appearances for Bristol City last season, scoring five goals. On the Championship's opening weekend for the new campaign, McCrorie scored with a cracking finish and also provided an assist in a 4-1 win over Sheffield United. Udinese only just completed a deal for ex-Aberdeen striker Lee Miller's son, Lennon, on Tuesday. The Italian outfit struck a £4.75m deal with Motherwell for the highly-rated young midfield playmaker.

Rangers icon Allan McGregor explains why VAR was CORRECT to disallow Djeidi Gassama goal against Club Brugge

Few inside the stadium could quite believe what was happening as the Gers found themselves three goals down inside the opening 20 minutes amid an almighty defensive shambles. Many fans had seen enough and headed for the exit door. Danilo got a goal back early in the second half as the Gers attempted to mount a fightback. They thought they'd got it back to 3-2 as the game approached its final stages with regular Euro hero Djeidi Gassama popping up with the goal. However, it wasn't to be. Gassama weaved his way into the box, saw a shot deflected before prodding the ball home from close range. The referee gave the goal but the Brugge players weren't happy. VAR got involved and the whistler was off to the monitor. He was then shown that Brugge keeper Simon Mignolet appeared to have his hands on the ball first - BEFORE Gassama tapped it into the net. Inside Rangers-themed barbers After a quick look, the goal was chalked off leaving Ibrox deflated. It was a controversial moment but one that ex-Gers No1 Allan McGregor believes the officials called correctly. The laws of the game state a ball cannot be removed from a goalkeeper's possession when they are in control of it - and McGregor reckons Mignolet did indeed get his hands to the ball first before Gassama prodded home. McGregor told Prime Video: "Unfortunately it probably is a free-kick, yeah. "I never got a right good view of it but if the ball is in his hands first, which I think slightly it is, then he's deemed to be in control of it. "Unfortunately it is a free-kick. "By the way, he's done brilliantly to get it into that position." McGregor was joined on the Prime panel by former Gers teammate Scott Arfield. The current Falkirk ace agreed with the former keeper's assessment. Arfield added: "I do agree because obviously Allan doesn't want to say that but he's also a member of the goalies' union. "You have to say he's got the two hands on the ball, it is a bit soft, but he is in control. "It's one of them, if it's for you you're delighted."
