New details emerge on Caitlyn Jenner's best friend Sophia Hutchins' fatal crash

Metroa day ago
Speeding was reportedly a factor in the death of Sophia Hutchins, according to new details about the shock car crash.
Hutchins, who was the best friend of Caitlyn Jenner, died in an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident on Wednesday, July 2, at the age of 29.
She collided with another car on a road near the former Kardashians star's home, causing her to fall into a '350 feet ravine', US outlets reported at the time.
New details have now emerged from the Daily Mail, with officers claiming Hutchins was speeding at the time of the crash.
'It looks like she may have been speeding and rear-ended the other car, the other party, and then that caused her to veer to the right and go off the cliff,' Sergeant Eduardo Saucedo told the outlet.
'It doesn't seem like she was following them. I think she just she came up on them and then hit the car,' the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department sergeant stated.
The two women in the grey Mazda, which Hutchins reportedly tried to manoeuvre around, were uninjured. One was reportedly a real estate agent showing homes in the local area.
Sgt. Saucedo added: 'So it looked like she tried to manoeuvre to go around it, but she was going too fast and just ended up clipping the rear end of that Mazda, causing her to veer off and go off the cliff there.'
Jenner allegedly came down to the scene, which occurred at 11.30am, a quarter of a mile south of her home on Decker Edison Road.
The I Am Cait star, who recently returned from Israel, is 'numb with shock' according to an insider who spoke to RadarOnline.com.
'She is absolutely devastated and can't believe what's happened. Sophia was a big part of her life.'
Jenner spent the Fourth of July holiday weekend away from the public eye, only leaving her home for a solo coffee run.
She has not given a public statement, beyond telling the Daily Mail she is struggling through 'tough times' surrounding the loss.
This isn't the first time Jenner's life has been impacted by a fatal car crash, as she previously rear-ended another car while driving her Cadillac Escalade.
In 2015, the I'm A Celebrity star was towing a trailer when traffic ahead of her slowed rapidly, resulting in her hitting a Lexus in a four-car crash.
Kimberly Howe, 70, died at the scene but prosecutors for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office did not press charges for vehicular manslaughter.

At the time, they stated they could not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Jenner's actions were negligent or unreasonable as she had attempted to brake prior to the impact.
Jenner and Hutchins met in 2015 through their hairstylist when the former announced her transition and they have been by each others' side ever since.
Hutchins, who was the CEO of a now-defunct beauty brand, was just starting her own transition at the time they met and was thought to have been inspired by Jenner.
She was hired as the former Olympian's business manager, but their bond was deeper than that, as she appeared in multiple episodes of her E! reality series I Am Cait and became friends with the Jenner family.
The pair were rumoured to be romantically involved by both stated this was not the case More Trending
'We have so much in common; we see the world so similarly, and we both are such a good match for each other because we challenge each other,' Hutchins once said of their relationship in an interview with The Hidden Truth with Jim Breslo.
'She challenges me in so many ways, has allowed me to grow in so many ways, and I hope I challenge her to grow, and I think because we share so many of the same passions and views, it's just a great match, a great partnership.'
Metro has reached out to Jenner's team for comment.

Girl, 8, killed after illegal firework blasted toward her

An eight-year-old girl has died after an illegal fireworks display went awry and shot toward and struck her. Jasmine Nguyen was standing near a family friend who lit the illegal firecrackers on the Fourth of July in Buena Park, California, police said. 'A large illegal fireworks display, which was placed in the street by the homeowner, failed and began misfiring toward the residence where the child was,' stated the Buena Park Police Department. 'This caused other illegal fireworks to ignite, which were near the child and others.' Officers 'observed family members frantically carrying a child into a residence' and quickly assisted and found that she was injured from the fireworks, according to the department. Jasmine was rushed late Friday to UCI Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Other people around Jasmine were not seriously hurt. Fire and bomb squad investigators determined that many of the fireworks used were illegal, according to the police department. Earl Decastro, 46, was arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter, police Lieutenant Jon-Michael Shaddow told the Orange County Register. He was out on a $25,000 bail as of Sunday. More Trending Charges against Decastro are pending a review by the county district attorney's office. On Sunday, a man who answered the door at Decastro's home on Cornflower Circle on Sunday afternoon told the newspaper that he would not speak and is 'grieving right now' and 'it's a really hard time for him'. A makeshift memorial for Jasmine, who was from nearby Anaheim, with a white cross, heart-shaped balloon, candles and flowers was set up at a cul-de-sac where the tragedy happened. There were multiple shootings across the US on the Independence Day holiday weekend. In Indianapolis, at least two people were shot dead and five injured on Friday. Mass shootings with four or more people killed or injured broke out in Chicago, Philadelphia and Brockton, Massachusetts. Annabel Croft spent 10 days in homelessness hell without a penny to her name

Former British tennis star Annabel Croft was one of several celebrities who took part in the BBC's Famous, Rich and Homeless in 2009, and the experience left her fearing for her life at one point Annabel Croft spent 10 days living on the streets of London without a penny to her name for the BBC's Famous, Rich and Homeless docu-series. The programme followed several volunteers who traded their luxurious lifestyles to experience the extreme poverty that Shelter today estimates 345,000 people in the UK are currently enduring. Croft, who temporarily abandoned her lavish six-bedroom home and numerous creature comforts to sleep in shop doorways for a week and a half in 2009, was joined by Hardeep Singh Kohli, Rosie Boycott, Bruce Jones and the Marquis of Blandford. Each embarked on their own journey into homelessness. ‌ Despite knowing it would be challenging, nothing could have prepared the now 58-year-old pundit, who is currently working at Wimbledon, for the physical and emotional hardship she faced during the experiment. In a Daily Mail column published the same year as the series, Croft recalled a terrifying moment when she was nearly stabbed. ‌ She wrote: "Slowly, I made it to the Strand in time to make the food drop from a van provided by a charity called the Simon Community. When I got there, an old battleaxe of a woman demanded, 'What are you doing here?' I said I just wanted a cup of tea but she said I was unwelcome. "She had spotted Fiona, my camerawoman, and clearly wanted to provoke a fight. I was still trying to get some tea when two Polish guys came at me from nowhere. Fiona and I were both protected - from a distance - by a security guard, Stuart Cleverley. "Within moments he was by my side, grabbed me by the arm and whisked me away from my argument. Only when we were 30 yards clear did he tell me that one of the men had pulled out a knife and was inches away from stabbing me in the back." ‌ The harrowing ordeal left Croft "scared witless" and contemplating abandoning the documentary due to fears of leaving her children motherless if she were to be fatally attacked on London's streets. However, she resolved to carry on until the end, encountering individuals from all walks of life - some who selflessly offered assistance in a display of camaraderie, even while grappling with their own struggles. Despite being thrust into extremely daunting situations, such as engaging with substance abusers and constructing a temporary home from cardboard, Croft confessed that the experience profoundly altered her view of the homeless. She said: "On so many occasions I have walked past homeless people and thought, 'Oh for goodness sake, you are so young. Get up and go and get a job.' But no one will employ a person who has no address who can't prove who they are. It's a vicious circle." ‌ She also shared her emotional response, feeling "disturbed" by the scenes she witnessed yet also "humbled and privileged" to participate in the programme's mission to challenge perceptions about the homeless. Following the broadcast, Croft delved deeper into the issue with her BBC Radio 5 Live show entitled James: My Alcoholic Friend, which revolved around her efforts to reconnect with one of the rough sleepers she spent time with on Famous, Rich and Homeless. Croft is currently making an impact with her commentary at Wimbledon, where tennis greats vie for the coveted Grand Slam title. Despite never securing a major herself, Croft made quite the impression on SW19's courts, reaching the third round in 1984. She also completed her career with a singles track record of 49-68 and one WTA title to her name. All eyes are set on WTA No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka at this year's tournament, as she gears up for a quarter-final clash against Laura Siegemund on Tuesday at Centre Court, aiming to bag her fourth Grand Slam title. Amanda Anisimova is also scheduled to face Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova later in the day, with the remaining two quarter-final spots yet to be decided at the time of writing.
