ITV renews The Assembly for second series with more episodes as Hollywood star set to join

Daily Mirror17-07-2025
This year's series of the popular ITV show featured candid interviews with Danny Dyer, David Tennant, Jade Thirlwall and Gary Lineker and is now set to get an extended follow-up
ITV's ground-breaking interview show The Assembly will return with an extended seven-part run next year after the success of the first series. And this time it will have a Hollywood star among the six big names being interviewed, with no questions off the table.

It comes after Danny Dyer, David Tennant, Jade Thirlwall and Gary Lineker proved a huge hit with viewers, with producers now in talks with others from the worlds of TV, film, music and sport.

A show source told the Mirror: "Bosses are thrilled that, not only is there a second series, but that they can do more episodes this time around, too. The appetite for this show has been huge. With so many ideas for celebrities to take part, it needed to come back with a longer run. The calibre of names being discussed is really impressive – it's looking like there could be a big Hollywood name in the mix."

The series, hailed as 'the most groundbreaking TV show of the year' by one critic, saw a group of autistic, neurodivergent and/or learning disabled people interview some of the UK's best known faces. Danny was left sobbing during his chat with the group as he looked back on his life, while Gary Lineker and David Tennant also got emotional.
This time around, the rules will remain exactly the same: no question is off the table and no topic is out of bounds. The series will run to seven episodes - six new interviews plus a seventh episode, The Assembly: Unseen, containing extra footage.

ITV entertainment commissioner David Smyth said the response to the first run had been 'thrilling'. 'There was no doubt in my mind that we needed to do more,' he added. 'I can't wait to see what questions The Assembly will put to our next group of bold celebrities and what their responses will be.'
Producer Stu Richards, of Rockerdale Studios, laughed: "I cannot believe we're still getting away with this. The chance to make something that plays by almost none of the rules of normal telly is just such a ludicrous privilege. I'm absolutely buzzing."

The series attracted huge critical acclaim when it launched earlier this year. LBC's Nick Ferrari declared: 'If there is a better show made for terrestrial television this year, I'd be staggered. It is breathtaking.' The Mirror called it 'a breath of fresh air' while the Radio Times agreed it was 'extraordinary'.
ITV entertainment boss Katie Rawcliffe said that the series was 'ITV entertainment at its best'. She added: 'It's warm, funny, revealing and just that little bit mischievous. We've got lots of ideas about which famous faces will join for series two and we're eager to see what we'll learn from the fantastic questions The Assembly will have.'
The show's format is an adaptation of French series Les Rencontres du Papotin, which made headlines when President Emmanuel Macron was asked if it was really role model behaviour to marry one's teacher.

Prince William and Kate 'eyeing up move' to historic castle with dark past

Prince William and Kate Middleton are understood to be considering a move from their three-bedroom home in Windsor after three years. There's ongoing speculation that Prince William and Kate Middleton could be considering a house move from their current home in Adelaide Cottage after three years. However, its the intriguing history of the potential residence which has sparked conversation. Adelaide Cottage is considered small in comparison to the size of the Wales family's previous full-time home, a grand apartment in Kensington Palace. Reports suggest they are seeking a larger space for their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. An insider has hinted according to reports in the Mirror, that the royals might be eyeing Fort Belvedere, a magnificent gothic revival mansion situated within Windsor Great Park. Constructed in the 18th century, Fort Belvedere was the preferred royal dwelling of Edward VIII, who resided there both before his ascension to the throne and following his abdication to wed Wallis Simpson. This imposing castle was the location where the former king signed the documents that confirmed his notorious abdication in 1936. The expansive grade II-listed property spans 59 acres and features an outdoor swimming pool and tennis court. These features are said to be a huge selling point to Kate and Charlotte, both avid sports enthusiasts. Often referred to as The Fort, this country house also boasts a rose garden, walled garden, separate kitchen garden, large greenhouse, stables, two lakes, paddocks and three cottages for staff. The residence is accessible via a lengthy path and is encircled by a moat. The grand residence was once the site of several cannons from the 1745 Jacobite rising, historically positioned along its battlements. Edward VIII is credited with saving the building, a favourite summer tea house of Queen Victoria, from neglect and introducing opulent amenities. Following his departure, the estate stood mostly vacant until 1956 when Gerald Lascelles, a cousin of Queen Elizabeth, took up residence. Initially a large mansion with 30 to 40 rooms, it's believed he downsized it to just eight bedrooms. The property was later leased in the early 1980s to Canadian retail magnate Galen Weston and his wife Hilary. Under the Westons' tenure, a polo stud was established on the grounds, and they famously entertained Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, and Princess Caroline of Monaco during Hilary's 60th birthday celebrations in an expansive marquee adjacent to the house. Mr Weston, whose fortune was estimated at £5.2 billion, passed away in 2021 at the age of 80, but his family has maintained their residence there, with the property remaining under the ownership of the Crown Estate. A source with insider knowledge disclosed to the Mail on Sunday, "[The Waleses] feel they have outgrown Adelaide Cottage and need somewhere more substantial. This is the perfect new home for them. It has a swimming pool and tennis court, and Charlotte loves playing tennis." It's understood that William and Kate contemplated residing in the unoccupied Fort Belvedere before ultimately choosing Adelaide Cottage. It's believed that they deemed Adelaide Cottage more fitting due to its proximity to Queen Elizabeth, and their desire to provide a more grounded upbringing for their children.

Inside Brooklyn Beckham's ‘financial flex' in feud with dad David as his £85m superyacht dwarfs family's £16m vessel

The 26-year-old sailed into Saint-Tropez in an £85million, 80-metre (260ft) vessel called Project X. Two days later, Brooklyn's dad David, 50, and mum Victoria, 51, arrived in the same French dock in a £16million, 40-metre (130ft) yacht named Seven. A source said: 'Brooklyn's yacht dwarfs the one owned by David and Victoria. It's a financial flex. 'Their relationship is beyond soured now but Brooklyn has really landed on his feet. Nicola and her parents, Nelson and Claudia, are his family now. And he's clearly enjoying the spoils.' Brooklyn's vessel, with a master suite, a VIP cabin, five double rooms and two twin cabins, has a crew of 28. It also boasts a 25ft by 9ft glass-sided swimming pool, a wellness suite, a spa and a 360-degree sundeck. David's yacht is half the size, with five cabins that sleep ten people, and up to seven crew members on board. The boat, which he bought in 2022, also features a spa bath on the upper deck as well as a 65ft garage, which is packed with water toys including a tender and a jet ski. David and Victoria bought Seven — so-called because of their daughter Harper's middle name — in an upgrade from a smaller £5million vessel. They are in Saint-Tropez with Harper, 14, and their other sons Romeo, 22, and Cruz, 20. David and Victoria Beckham's agony as family feud explodes into WW3 and pals say 'Brooklyn has totally cut them off' Brooklyn, along with his wife Nicola, 30, no longer speak to his family following a much-publicised feud earlier this year, which The Sun understands was sparked by money. We first revealed the rift in May. But it worsened earlier this month after brothers Romeo and Cruz appeared to block Brooklyn and Nicola on social media. Those close to Brooklyn said a reconciliation with his family was off the table, adding: 'There's too much water under the bridge.' Brooklyn and Nicola have posted pictures from their break on social media — including one of her naked in one of the yacht's baths. Aspiring cook, photographer and model Brooklyn also posted a snap of himself drinking a bottle of beer next to billionaire businessman Nelson. 10 Brooklyn taking a dip in St. Tropez, where he is staying with his wife Credit: BackGrid 10 Brooklyn shared snaps following his luxury boat trip on Instagram Credit: Instagram 10 Brooklyn hangs out on the mega-expensive vessel Credit: Instagram Brooklyn and Nicola have also been seen out shopping in posh boutiques in and around Saint-Tropez. He also met his godfather, singer Sir Elton John, last week in Cannes. Sir Elton is said to have tried to be a peacemaker in Brooklyn's feud — but is not taking sides. An insider said: 'Elton is the showbiz equivalent of Switzerland. He's utterly neutral in this row. He just wants everyone to be happy. 'He wants to look after them in his role as 'spiritual adviser' as a godfather. It's a role he takes seriously.' 10 Brooklyn and Nicola no longer speak to his family following a much-publicised feud Credit: Instagram 10 Brooklyn and Nicola have posted pictures from their break on social media Credit: Instagram

Emily Atack and Danny Dyer's new primetime ITV game show is revealed - and insiders say its premise is VERY familiar

Emily Atack and Danny Dyer 's new primetime ITV game show has been revealed, but its premise is raising eyebrows. It was revealed earlier this year that the pair, who both starred in the Disney+ hit Rivals, will front a Saturday night game show called Nobody's Fool. Bosses at the broadcaster brought in the pair in a bid to 'freshen up their entertainment talent', it was reported. The duo are reportedly set to receive a whopping £250,000 each for the gig, with the show expected to air next year. But similarities between Nobody's Fool and Rivals are said to have raised eyebrows behind the scenes. A source told The Sun: 'Rivals is the story of a web of rival individuals which is spun around a stately house, Penscombe Court, and their efforts to constantly outdo one another. 'That's exactly the basis for the new gameshow, which also has the background of a country pile and sees all the competitors try to outwit one another. 'Those in the know are already describing it as: "A game of intellect and deception" which could be the catchline for one of Jilly's novels.' MailOnline has contacted representatives for Danny and Emily for comment. Danny and Emily have been busy so far this year filming the second series of the smash-hit series, based on the racy books of Dame Jilly Cooper. Danny, who played pub landlord Mick Carter in EastEnders for almost a decade, is no stranger to game shows. The hardman previously hosted The Wall for the BBC, which ran for three series before ending in 2022 when Danny left EastEnders and the BBC. Mum-of-one Emily starred as a team captain on now-axed CelebJuice with Keith Lemon and Laura Whitmore. Danny recently revealed there is so much bonking in Rivals 2 – which is currently filming - that they have hired every intimacy coach in the UK. He said: 'We are doing 12 episodes of Rivals and we are filming until March next year. 'It is brilliant but it is a mad thing to do a sex scene. If you think about it you are legally allowed to tongue someone else. It is part of your job. Depending on your partner. It is OK if you fancy it, I am not going to lie.' He added: 'On Rivals there are a lot of intimacy coaches. I think we used every intimacy coach in the land.' In the smash hit Disney + show, based on the novel by Jilly Cooper, Danny played self-made businessman Freddie Jones who goes into business with Rupert Campbell-Black, played by Alex Hassell and Declan O'Hara played by Aidan Turner. In the show Jones falls in love with romance author Lizzie Vereker, played by actress Katherine Parkinson. The initial run was eight episodes but Disney + have asked for more this time around. Danny's performance as Jones has been hailed as bringing heart to the frothy, pulpy show, which has led to a reassessment of him as an actor, following his long-running stint in EastEnders. He was awarded a Bafta in May for his performance in Mr Bigstuff. He told Esquire magazine: 'People saw me in a different light[in Rivals], and it came out just after Mr. Bigstuff, which, for once, shows a bit of versatility, because Lee is so different to Freddie. 'I've made a lot mistakes over the years. I've said yes to a lot of jobs I probably shouldn't have, probably because I was driven by the dollar – I had bills to pay and kids in private schools. Now, I'm at a stage where I have loads of offers that I've got the power to say no to. I think I'll be defined by what I say no to, and it's really exciting for me.' On stage at the Baftas where he won the award to Best Male Performance in a Comedy he said: 'What a touch! Comedy performance. I thought my acting was so bad it was funny. I want to thank Sky for giving our show a shot. F***ing hell, I'm choked up. 'I got to dedicate this to (Mr Bigstuff writer) Ryan Sampson. One of the greatest things to come out of Rotherham. Which is not saying much. 'But one of the best actors this country's ever produced, I'm telling you. Never done the same thing twice. Which is not something I can say. He wrote this part for me, so you know... I'm getting choked up again, f**k me.'
