Kottayam: Even a university rank could not separate the twin sisters from Kanjirappally, as
Liza Mariam George
and
Liya Treesa George
secured a
joint first rank
in the BA English Language and Literature Model II Teaching course of
Mahatma Gandhi University
, Kottayam.
Both secured an 8.43 cumulative credit point average and grade A to share the top spot. They completed their graduation from St Dominic's College, Kanjirappally. The twin sisters were in the same class from kindergarten. Their results were identical right from school days. When both scored A+ in all subjects in Class X, they finished with A+ in five subjects and A in one subject in Class XII.
Both developed an interest in reading, mainly due to the small library at home maintained by their mother, Renna Raju, who is a higher secondary school teacher.
"We read a lot of novels, especially Malayalam," said Liya.
The twin sisters make joint decisions about their education and career too. Both have set their eyes on securing govt jobs. "We decided to prepare for the SSA examination for one year and will join PG next year," says Liza.
Their father, Raju Mathew, is a sales executive, while younger brother, Mathew George, is in Class X.
The two say that being twins has more positives than negatives.

Action committee warns intense protest over bad condition of NH stretch

Mangaluru: The Action Committee Against Toll Gate, Surathkal, has warned of intense protests if the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) does not fill potholes on the Surathkal–Nanthoor highway stretch. "Every monsoon, potholes appear in rows on the Surathkal-Nanthoor National Highway stretch, posing a threat to two-wheeler riders. This time, dangerous potholes appeared on the highway with the first rain. The first casualty has already occurred, and it is uncertain how many more precious lives will be lost here. No one seems to care about this," stated Muneer Katipalla, coordinator of the action committee. A resident of Janatha Colony in Surathkal, who was travelling on his two-wheeler near Panambur, fell into a pothole and was run over by a tanker coming from behind and died last night, he said. "We have been raising our voices from the action committee to repair this highway fully before the monsoon and prevent such tragic deaths. After putting forward this demand and urging the people's representatives, we held a peaceful protest in Kuloor, for which an FIR was filed against us. Despite this, we continued our fight within our limits. Now, a prelude to the series of deaths caused by highway potholes this monsoon has been written," said Muneer. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Tragically, instead of inspecting the dire condition of the national highway and taking steps to fill the potholes, people's representatives are busy with vote bank politics. People's representatives should wake up and take immediate steps to fill the numerous potholes on the highway. Otherwise, a procession of deaths on the highway will occur this monsoon, he said. "Do not compel us to engage in intense protests. Also, ensure that the highway authority provides compensation to the bereaved family of the deceased," Muneer urged.

Tigress gives birth to cubs in Mysuru zoo

Mysuru: After a lull of three years, a tigresses, Tara gave birth to five cubs at the Mysuru zoo. While two cubs died, the rest are healthy. The mother tiger and her three cubs are being closely monitored through surveillance cameras, said zoo authorities. Tara gave birth to the cubs on May 30. These new births comes close to the episode of a giraffe giving birth to a calf at the facility a few months earlier. The zoo staff claim the Royal Bengal tigers at the Mysuru facility are part of a successful conservation breeding programme, adding another feather to its cap as the facility successfully breeds tigers at regular intervals. The facility maintains good standards of care and provides balanced nutrition to ensure the tigers remain healthy. This has resulted in successful breeding of the the big cat. There are challenges in captive breeding, with mortality rates higher during ex-situ births. Cubs born in zoos require intensive care and monitoring. Maternal rejection and genetic abnormalities are some of the reasons for mortality, sources said. KN Rangaswamy, executive director of Mysuru zoo, said that this is not the first time birth mortality, which is common, has happened during ex-situ births. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Las Golondrinas: Calcule cuánto podría ganar invirtiendo en Amazon CFD Empezar ahora Subscríbete Undo Tigress Tara, a mother who has earlier bred three times, gave birth to five cubs. Schools in DK expect a rise admissions to Class 1

Mangaluru: Schools in the district expect an increase in admissions to Class 1 this academic year due to the relaxation of the minimum age limit — from six years to 5 years and 5 months. According to officials, this will be the last academic year for such an exemption to be granted. The state has announced that it will adhere to the Right to Education (RTE) and National Education Policy (NEP), which will allow only those who have completed age six as of June 1 from next year. Govinda Madivala, DDPI, Dakshina Kannada, is hopeful that they expect to see an increase of an additional 500 to 600 admissions to Class 1. "These additional admissions we expect are more than targeted for the current academic year. Last year, 30,860 students joined Class 1 in DK district," said Madivala, adding that higher primary schools also see an additional 2,000 students' admissions every year, especially from class 5 or 6, as students from other districts join here. "We will be able to get a complete picture only after July, as the admissions process is open till then," he explained. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Berlin: GEERS sucht 700 Testhörer für Hörgeräte ohne Zuzahlung GEERS Undo "Admissions are going on at full swing in govt schools. It was initially affected by recent heavy rain, which stopped many students from other districts, particularly from north Karnataka, from getting admissions. The numbers are likely to go up after their return," said a school head. A block education officer (BEO) confirmed the same and added: "With this relaxation, children who went to anganwadis or whose names are not registered in the Student Achievement Tracking System (SATS) and are 5 years and 5 months old are now eligible. Those who attend kindergarten (LKG/UKG), registered in SATS, and not completed UKG are not eligible even if they are 5 years and 5 months old." The BEO further explained that the SATS database contains comprehensive information, and this new flexibility in admission criteria will particularly advantage students entering govt schools, as they typically do not attend kindergarten programmes.
