RCB's senior official Nikhil Sosale granted interim bale by Karnataka High Court

India Gazette13-06-2025
New Delhi [India], June 13 (ANI): Royal Challengers Bengaluru's senior official, Nikhil Sosale, who was arrested over the June 4 stampede during the team's maiden IPL title triumph celebrations, has been granted interim bail by the Karnataka High Court, according to ESPNcricinfo.
More than a week after the incident, Sosale and two officials from DNA Networks, the event management company associated with RCB, were released on specific conditions, the most notable of which was the surrender of their passports, according to ESPNcricinfo.
ESPNCricinfo also reported that Sosale and all RCB officials who are part of the management team are likely to undergo an internal investigation by the parent company, Diageo.
The incident occurred when thousands of fans gathered to catch a glimpse of their favourite players. Eleven people lost their lives and several were injured in a stampede outside Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy stadium as a huge crowd of nearly 3 lakh people had gathered to witness the victory celebration of RCB.
The Karnataka Police had filed an FIR against the Karnataka Cricket Board Administrative Committee, RCB, among others, concerning the stampede incident. Last Saturday, two top Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) officials, secretary A. Shankar and treasurer ES Jairam, resigned, citing 'moral responsibility.'
KSCA President Raghuram Bhat confirmed the development, saying that the resignations were discussed and accepted during an emergency meeting. He assured that the cricket body will cooperate with the investigation.
'When the inquiry takes place, we have already told the government and the High Court that we will never shy away from anything that is there. We are ready to cooperate with the investigation,' Bhat told reporters.
The Bengaluru Police also filed the first information report (FIR) against the popular IPL franchise last Thursday, as per ESPNCricinfo. The police have said that RCB was not given permission to conduct the event at the stadium.
RCB has been listed as the first accused in the FIR, along with DNA Entertainment, the franchise's event partners, and the KSCA, which controls the stadium. RCB expressed 'heartfelt condolences' to the families of the deceased in a statement, and since then has resorted to silence over the matter. (ANI)

'It's my life, my career': INR 23.75 crore KKR star makes bold statement after facing flak for not justifying price tag

Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer frequently faces flak over not justifying the Rs. 23.75 crore price tag at which he was retained by the IPL franchise in the mega auction of IPL 2025. Iyer, who emerged as the breakout star of the league in 2021, when he singlehandedly inspired KKR to reach the final, has had ups and downs in his performance since then. He had a quiet 2025 season, which led to naysayers questioning his cost-benefit ratio. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD However, the player does not get affected by the opinions of detractors and made it known that those who question him are not even in his contact list, a parameter he seemingly refers before judging whether someone's opinion holds any importance to him or not. 'People who had these questions are not even on my contact list. So why do I have to even think about what they are thinking?' Venkatesh Iyer told Sportskeeda. 'It's my life, my game, my career. And it's my team that has chosen to spend so much on me. So these things don't faze me. See, for a boy who wanted to just play IPL cricket, even ₹20 lakh would sometimes feel like a significant amount. And over the years, this is what I've learnt. Not just me, but all the cricketers have learnt this: there are a lot of eyes on you, but it's important to know what to pay heed to. People who have had a direct impact on my life, I am answerable to only them,' he said. KKR management still holds faith in Iyer As KKR struggled to pull off victories in the IPL 2025, Venkatesh Iyer had to bear the brunt of it because of his price tag and was even dropped from the side on a couple of occasions. He featured in 11 games in the eighteenth edition of the Indian Premier League and was able to register just 142 runs. Despite the form dwindle, the MP all-rounder insists that the KKR management still trusts him. Moreover, he reveals that KKR CEO Venky Mysore did his best to not let him get affected by the whopping price attached with him. 'It's not about just the money, it's about where I fit in their scheme of things. Venky sir once told me something, which I felt made a lot of sense. He said, 'At the end of the day, you are given 120 units to build a team. Once the team is built, it doesn't matter how many units you have spent on what. It is a team that has been made now, that's it,' he added. Iyer focuses on the positives he was able attain from IPL 2025 While it was a torrid season for KKR, who started the campaign as the defending champions but ended up finishing 8th this time, Iyer was able to extract some positives out of it. 'Yeah, I have taken the learnings, taken the positives, and whatever mistakes happened. But yeah, there were a lot of things that have come up that I feel hindered my performance. But all in all, good one or bad one, winning the trophy or not winning it, scoring 600-700 runs, that and all is different. It was a season full of learning, and that is what is constant.' He concluded. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Doctor ‘throws' rice on courtroom floor in Delhi, lawyers suspect ‘black magic'

A Delhi Court reportedly imposed a fine on a doctor who is facing trial in a 2011 murder case, for interrupting court proceedings by throwing rice in front of the courtroom's dais, with lawyers present in the premises suspecting "black magic". Tis Hazari court's Additional Sessions Judge sentenced the accused doctor to imprisonment till the court rises next and slapped a fine of ₹ 2,000 on him.(Sanchit Khanna/Hindustan Times) Tis Hazari court's Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Shefali Barnala Tandon sentenced Dr Chander Vibhas, a medical surgeon, till the court rises next. She also slapped a fine of ₹2,000 on him, which the doctor deposited on the same day, news agency ANI reported. Vibhas's case, which pertains to a murder case registered at Hari Nagar, was listed to be heard on August 11. The court staff and counsel present in the premises had informed the court before the hearing that Vibhas had thrown some rice grains on the floor under the dais. The proceedings were halted as advocates did not wish to go ahead without getting the premises cleaned. "This is very shocking and surprising to the Court that the present accused Dr Chander Vibhas, who is stated to be a surgeon by profession and belonging to the educated and elite class, has acted in such an unreasonable manner and created an interruption in the court proceedings," the court said. In its order, the court added, "Accordingly, this court is constrained to take cognisance of the offence under Section 267 BNS, 2023 against accused Dr Chander Vibhas since proceedings of the Court were halted for about 15-20 minutes and it is triable by this very Court where the said offence has been committed." Later, the accused apologised to the court. ASJ Tandon, in the order dated August 11, said, "After considering all the facts and circumstances, including the apology tendered by the accused and his feeling of remorse, he is sentenced to undergo imprisonment till the rising of the Court and a fine of ₹2,000 to be deposited with the State." The accused revealed during an enquiry that he was holding some rice in his hands, which just fell down in court. However, he failed to give a satisfactory explanation as to why he was carrying rice in his hands while entering the court and during the proceedings. Ten minutes after the incident, when advocates expressed hesitation and conveyed their suspicion, a cleaner came in and cleaned the floor, the court order stated.

"It's Bogus Talk": Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma's Selection Route Through Vijay Hazare Trophy Route Trashed

Will Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma play in the 2027 World Cup? That is probably the biggest question on the minds of Indian cricket fans right now. The star duo has already retired from Tests and T20Is, which means they will not be in action for most of the year. With only one format to play in, Kohli and Rohit will have very few match days. According to the initial schedule, India will play only nine ODIs from October till the next IPL — just nine international match days. There is still close to two years left for the ODI World Cup, and the duo faces a tough task in maintaining their prime form until then. Some reports have claimed that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma need to play the Vijay Hazare Trophy to enhance their chances. In the midst of this, former India opener Aakash Chopra has said that it's all 'bogus talk.' "The chatter about playing the Vijay Hazare Trophy — the tournament will happen in November–December. What's the point? There are nine ODIs for India till the next IPL (3 vs Australia in October, 3 vs South Africa in November, and 3 against New Zealand in January 2026). That's about it — just nine days of cricket action for you. That would be over 100 days since you played an IPL match and the next ODI you play. You're not playing at all. You're not practising," Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel. "A three-match series gets over in seven to eight days. Then the next one would be after three months. Gaps are just incredibly huge, and you won't play first-class cricket in between. It's true that had they continued playing Test cricket and left ODIs, staying in the groove would have been a lot easier. "Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli don't have to play the Vijay Hazare Trophy — they wouldn't be selected based on their performance in the tournament, let's be honest about this. It's bogus talk. If they had played Tests and left ODIs, staying in the groove would have been easier. "When you have retired from Tests, and ODI cricket is not played much, it is not going to make a lot of sense. So just two months of high-intensity IPL, where you would get to play 14 to 16 innings, and then you would play three matches after six months, and then three matches after another three months — I think it is very, very difficult." Virat and Rohit are two of the finest ODI players produced by India, with Virat having made 14,181 runs in 302 matches and 290 innings at an average of 57.88, with 51 centuries and 74 fifties. His best score is 183. On the other hand, Rohit has scored 11,168 runs in 272 matches and 265 innings at an average of 48.76, with 32 centuries and 59 fifties and a best score of 264. Both last played ODIs in the ICC Champions Trophy, which they won, with Virat scoring 218 runs in five matches at an average of 54.50, with a century against Pakistan and a knock of 84 against Australia in the semifinals being his top contributions. Rohit had a more mixed tournament but nonetheless came in clutch with a title-sealing 76 in the final, ending the tournament with 180 runs at an average of 36.00 and a strike rate of 100.00. The legendary duo has sustained a sensational run of form since 2023, the World Cup year. Virat has scored 1,710 runs in 37 matches and 34 innings at an average of 61.07, while striking at above 95, with seven centuries and 10 fifties. His best score is 166*. In 38 ODIs and 37 innings, Rohit has scored 1,714 runs at an average of 48.97, with a stupendous strike rate of 117.24, with three centuries and 12 fifties, with his best score being 131. Their next ODI assignment will be three matches against Australia, starting from October 19 onwards. With three more ODIs scheduled from November to December against South Africa at home, three against New Zealand in January at home, and a summer tour to England for three ODIs in July, fans would be hoping that Rohit and Virat make the most of these outings with their consistency and reflexes to keep their chances of going to the World Cup alive.
