Chandigarh Police sends two drug peddlers to Assam jail
The Chandigarh Police's ANTF (Anti-Narcotics Task Force) has secured the preventive detention of two alleged habitual drug offenders — Bala and Deepak Mittal, alias Vicky, under the PITNDPS Act. Both individuals are now set to be lodged in Central Jail, Dibrugarh, Assam, police said.
According to the police, the approval was granted by the Union Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue (PITNDPS unit), on May 2.
As per police records, Bala, a 60-year-old resident of Sector 38-A, Chandigarh, is a known repeat offender with a criminal history spanning over 36 cases, including 10 under the NDPS Act. She operated her drug supply network from within her house, using minors and neighbours as couriers. Despite multiple convictions — including a 10-year rigorous imprisonment in 2015 — she continued her illegal activities.
Similarly, Deepak Mittal, alias Vicky of Sector 45-C, Chandigarh, has been a prominent figure in heroin trafficking in the city. With multiple convictions and ongoing investigations, he remains a significant threat to public health and safety.
This move aims to sever their local criminal networks and prevent further influence on their operations within Chandigarh, police said.

LA protests a ‘coverup' for Epstein files claims? Theory suggests Trump is ‘distracting' voters
Violent protests have broken out in Los Angeles following ICE raids across the California county over the weekend. President Donald Trump sent the National Guard to restore order with 2000 deployed 'for 60 days or at the discretion of the Secretary of Defense', the White House said in a statement late Saturday. Pete Hegseth, the secretary of defense, said on X that Marines will also be mobilized 'if violence continues'. While the chaos in LA went through to Sunday, several locals and social media users speculated if there's a link to the protests and Elon Musk's Epstein files threat. Read More: White House aide calls Los Angeles anti-ICE protests an 'insurrection' Locals on X pointed out that the protests in Los Angeles might be a 'coverup' to 'distract' voters from the Epstein files claims. 'Elon: Trump is in the Epstein files Next day: Los Angeles riots begin,' one person said on X, platform formerly known as Twitter. 'LOS ANGELES IS A DISTRACTION. Elon was forced to take down his 1M+ likes re trump and Epstein, in congress the flagship tax bill is stalling out, and tariff confusion is spiking prices. DONT GET DISTRACTED BY KEY JANGLES,' another person tweeted. Musk recently deleted an explosive allegation linking Donald Trump with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein that he posted on social media during a vicious public fallout with the US president this week. "Time to drop the really big bomb: (Trump) is in the Epstein files," Musk posted on his social media earlier this week as his growing feud with the president boiled over into a spectacularly public row. 'That is the real reason they have not been made public.' The Tesla chief, however, did not mention any specifics. While social media users linked the LA protests to the Epstein files claim, there is no proof that the two are related. The Department of Homeland Security on Saturday accused Democratic leaders in California, including California Governor Gavin Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass, of contributing to violence. 'The violent targeting of law enforcement in Los Angeles by lawless rioters is despicable and Mayor Bass and Governor Newsom must call for it to end,' DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.

Kash Patel, FBI Director, faces backlash for ‘hit a cop' comment, social media users say ‘Remember January 6?'
Amid Los Angeles becoming the epicentre of major anti-ICE protests, FBI Director Kash Patel has warned that anyone hitting a cop will land straight in jail, reported Hindustan Times. According to the report, Patel's comments have not gone down well with a section of the internet, which requested that the FBI Director remember the 6 January rioters whom US President Donald Trump pardoned. After a series of large-scale immigration raids by federal agents across the city, people in LA have started protesting. The immigration raids sparked immediate backlash as protestors clashed violently with law enforcement. On Saturday, Donald Trump ordered 2,000 National Guard troops to the streets of Los Angeles, as the administration stated the move was taken to quell 'lawlessness'. According to an AFP report, confrontations erupted between federal agents and angry crowds after the agents shoot flash-bang grenades and tear gas towards crowds at the arrests of dozens of migrants in a city with a large Latino population. Amid the situation in LA becoming tense, FBI Director Kash Patel warned that anyone hitting a police officer would go to jail. 'Hit a cop, you're going to jail… doesn't matter where you came from, how you got here, or what movement speaks to you. If the local police force won't back our men and women on the thin blue line, we FBI will,' he posted on X. After his tweet, Patel has become the target of backlash as people reminded him of the January 6, 2021 riots in the US Capitol. People also reminded him how the US administration's stance differed at that time from now. Earlier on 6 January 2021, a mob of Donald Trump supporters attacked the US Capitol, in which over 150 police officers were injured. In the riots one – Brian Sicknick – died the following day. Later, when Donald Trump was elected president in the 2024 United States presidential election, he pardoned about 1,500 people charged for the riots. Patel post is garnering attention on social media as the users are slamming him for his statement. 'But if you do it wearing Trump merch while rioting at the US Capitol, you'll get a pardon, right, Kash?' wrote one X user. 'This declaration evidently does not apply to the Trump supporters who attacked police on Jan. 6,' another wrote. 'Trump pardoned all the Jan 6ers who assaulted cops,' a third X user reminded the FBI director, while the fourth user wrote, 'Remember Jan 6th? Your dear leader pardoned hundreds who assaulted cops.'

Punjab: Amritsar Rural Police arrests two key drug traffickers, recovers 6 Kg Heroin
Amritsar (Punjab) [India] June 8 (ANI): In a significant breakthrough against trans-border narco-smuggling, Amritsar Rural Police arrested two key traffickers near Village Bhakna and seized 6 kilograms of high-grade heroin. Acting on specific intelligence, a police team intercepted Gurditta alias Kalu and Captain near Village Bhakna while they were transporting a high-grade heroin consignment on a motorcycle. According to the officials on Sunday, the heroin consignment had been smuggled into India by Pakistan-based handlers and was further meant for distribution across Punjab. An FIR under the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Gharinda. Police said that another accused was currently absconding and efforts were underway to track and arrest him. The DGP said that preliminary investigations are still ongoing to unravel the full extent of the drug supply chain, including cross-border linkages. Earlier on Friday, Punjab Police Counter-Intelligence (CI) unit in Amritsar has successfully identified and dismantled a cross-border illegal arms smuggling network with connections to Pakistan. As a result of this operation, two operatives involved in the smuggling activities have been arrested, Punjab Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, said. According to a release, those arrested are Sukhchain Singh, a resident of Daoke in Amritsar, and Jugraj Singh, a resident of Bhakna Kalan in Amritsar. The police teams also recovered eight sophisticated pistols--three 9MM Glocks, four Px5s, and one .30-bore pistol--from their possession and impounded their black motorcycle, which was used for transporting the consignments. The DGP said that preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused were acting under the directions of a Pakistan-based smuggler identified as Noor, a resident of Manihala in Pakistan, who has been using drones to drop weapon consignments from across the border. The arrested accused were further distributing the arms to gangsters across Punjab, intending to fuel criminal activities in the state, he said. Sharing operation details, the DGP said that CI Amritsar received specific intelligence about the retrieval of a weapon consignment from the village of Bhaini Rajputtan in the jurisdiction of Gharinda in Amritsar.
