Two dead in car-lorry crash on Kuantan-Maran road
The crash, which occurred at Batu 12 around 3.30pm, was believed to have happened when the lorry, travelling from Johor towards Kuantan, lost control and swerved into oncoming traffic before colliding with a Sedan.
Kuantan OCPD Asst Comm Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said Norihan Mustafa, 57, a passenger in the back seat of the car, died at the scene.
The lorry driver, 24-year-old Jayavarman Murugan, was taken to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital but later died in the emergency ward.
The car, which was heading towards Maran from Kuantan, was carrying three people. The driver, Mohd Ridzwan Ab Mubin, 59, sustained injuries to his face and shoulder, while another passenger escaped with minor injuries.
Both vehicles are being inspected by the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom), and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers dangerous driving causing death.
The injured survivors are being treated at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital. – Bernama

MUAR: A female clerk lost more than RM277,580 of her savings after becoming a victim of an online job scam. Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz reported that the 42-year-old victim was searching for a part-time job online when she clicked on a link and contacted an individual via WhatsApp. "The individual claimed to represent a company named 'HR Hotelrunner'. After the victim shared her personal details, she was added to a WhatsApp group called 'Bookassist Marketing Grp'," he explained in a statement on Sunday (Aug 3). He noted that the victim then communicated with another individual who instructed her to complete several hotel room booking tasks online, requiring her to make upfront payments with her own money. "The victim was promised commissions ranging from 10% to 35% for each task. Initially, she received a return on her first transaction in July, which encouraged her to continue with more tasks," he said. ACP Raiz added that the victim made 44 transactions in total to 13 different bank accounts, amounting to RM277,445. "All these payments were supposedly for completing the assigned tasks. The victim only realised she had been scammed when she was asked to make an additional payment to withdraw her promised returns. "She refused further payments and lodged a police report," he said, noting that the funds were from her personal savings. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, which carries a jail term of one to ten years, with whipping and a fine upon conviction. "I advise the public to be cautious of any online part-time job offers promising unrealistic returns. Always verify the authenticity of the company or individual before making any transactions. "Additionally, the public is advised to stay updated by following the Commercial Crime Investigation Department's official social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok for the latest scam tactics," he advised.

Op Motosikal: 39 summonses issued, six bikes impounded in Bau
Photo shows the police crest. KUCHING (Aug 3): A traffic operation in Bau saw a total of 39 summonses issued and six motorcycles impounded for various offences. Bau police chief DSP Dr Daram Ruer said the operation yesterday, dubbed Op Motosikal, commenced around 6pm, with a total of 35 motorcycles and 45 individuals inspected. 'The summonses were issued for offences such as illegal modifications, no side mirrors, no driving licence, no 'P' licence, expired road tax, not wearing a helmet, and licence plate not following specifications,' he said in a statement. He added the six motorcycles were impounded under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for further action. In calling on all motorcyclists to adhere to traffic laws and prioritise road safety, Daram also reminded parents to play their part by making sure their children are not involved in illegal illegal motoring activities such as street racing. Early morning accident claims motorcyclist's life

City police chief ACP Kasim Muda said the accident occurred around 2am near 88 Commercial Centre as the rider was heading towards Jalan Lintas. Initial investigations found that the Yamaha Y15ZR rider lost control and veered left before falling into a 10-metre concrete drain. The impact caused the rider to be thrown into the drain and he was pronounced dead at the scene due to serious head injuries. Further checks revealed the rider did not have a valid driving licence and the motorcycle was registered under another person's name. The weather at the time was clear and traffic along the road was light, ACP Kasim added.
