
Two dead in car-lorry crash on Kuantan-Maran road
KUANTAN: Two people were killed and two others injured in a collision involving a car and a trailer lorry on Jalan Kuantan-Maran highway on Saturday afternoon (June 14).
The crash, which occurred at Batu 12 around 3.30pm, was believed to have happened when the lorry, travelling from Johor towards Kuantan, lost control and swerved into oncoming traffic before colliding with a Sedan.
Kuantan OCPD Asst Comm Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said Norihan Mustafa, 57, a passenger in the back seat of the car, died at the scene.
The lorry driver, 24-year-old Jayavarman Murugan, was taken to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital but later died in the emergency ward.
The car, which was heading towards Maran from Kuantan, was carrying three people. The driver, Mohd Ridzwan Ab Mubin, 59, sustained injuries to his face and shoulder, while another passenger escaped with minor injuries.
Both vehicles are being inspected by the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom), and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers dangerous driving causing death.
The injured survivors are being treated at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital. – Bernama

College student dies after motorcycle skids and hits road divider
KLUANG: A 20-year-old Interactive Media diploma student died after his motorcycle skidded at Km69.2 northbound on the North-South Expressway yesterday. The third-semester student at the Melaka International College of Science & Technology (MiCoST), Mohamad Danish Subaha, was confirmed dead at the scene due to severe injuries. Kluang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said preliminary investigations found that the victim was travelling from Simpang Renggam to Melaka on a Yamaha Y16ZR motorcycle. "The motorcycle is believed to have gone out of control and skidded, hitting a road divider. "The victim fell onto the road and died at the scene due to severe head injuries," he said in a statement. The police received a report at 3.20pm. Bahrin said the body was taken to Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital for a post-mortem and would be handed over to the family for further action. "The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he added.
