Major development units planned for two Pembrokeshire towns
The three schemes, all made by AMP Clean Energy, seek permission for micro energy storage unit 'battery boxes' on land between Steynton Road and Sheffield Drive and Castle Terrace and Pill Road, Milford Haven; and on a verge at Fishguard Leisure Centre Car Park.
A supporting statement accompanying each application says: 'AMP Clean Energy is developing Battery Boxes across the UK to provide a low carbon, flexible and de-centralised store of electricity that benefits local communities, businesses, and homes.'
It says the battery boxes import electricity from the local electricity network when demand for electricity is low or when there are high levels of renewable energy available, exporting it back during periods of high demand to help address grid reliability issues prompted by an increase of intermittent (wind and solar) generation of the electricity system.

AMP Clean Energy says it is developing up to 1,250-plus Battery Boxes in the UK over the next three years and, to date, has received planning consent for more than 80 such schemes across the country.
It says each box, which takes up roughly two car parking spaces, stores 800kWh of electricity, giving the potential to power 200 homes for four hours where there is a disruption to supply.
The statement adds: 'The UK's electricity system was traditionally dominated by a small number of large power stations fuelled by fossil fuel (namely coal and natural gas). However, the system is now becoming increasingly supplied by intermittent sources of renewable energy such as wind and solar power.
'Renewable power generation does not always match when the demand for electricity is highest. To overcome this, we need a more flexible energy system that allows us to shift renewable energy to the periods of the day when the demand for power is at its greatest.
'And as the UK builds more and more renewable projects, increasingly there are times when the amount of renewable electricity on the system is greater than the demand for it.'
The three applications will be considered by county planners at a later date.

Visma owners close to picking banks for £16bn London float
The owners of Visma, one of Europe's biggest software companies, are close to hiring bankers for a £16bn flotation that would rank among the London market's biggest for years. Sky News understands that Visma's board and shareholders have convened a beauty parade of investment banks in the last fortnight ahead of an initial public offering (IPO) likely to take place in 2026. Citi, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley are understood to be among those in contention for the top roles on the deal, City insiders said on Friday. Several banks are expected to be appointed as global coordinators on the IPO as soon as this month. Visma is a Norwegian company which supplies accounting, payroll, HR and other business software to well over 1 million small business customers. It has grown at a rapid rate in recent years, both organically and through scores of acquisitions, and has seen its profitability and valuation rise substantially during that period. The business is now valued at about €19bn (£16.4bn) and is partly owned by a number of sovereign wealth funds and other private equity firms. The majority of the company is owned by Hg, the London-based private equity firm which has backed a string of spectacularly successful companies in the software industry. Visma's owners' decision to pick the UK ahead of competition from Amsterdam represents a welcome boost to the City amid ongoing questions about the attractiveness of the London stock market to international companies. Rachel Reeves, the chancellor, used last month's speech at Mansion House to launch a taskforce aimed at generating additional IPO activity in the UK. Spokespeople claiming to represent Visma at Kekst, a communications firm, did not respond to a series of enquiries about the IPO appointments. Hg also failed to respond to a request for comment.

River Island: Locations of 33 shops set for closure
River Island is set to push ahead with plans to shut 33 shops after receiving court approval for a major restructuring. A high court judge approved the high street fashion chain's restructuring plan on Friday, amid fears that the company could collapse into administration without the overhaul. It will also secure reduced rents on 71 other stores as part of the plan. Lawyers for River Island told the court that the company 'simply has not been able to reverse' a trend of financial difficulty. Here is the list of locations where the group will now shut shops: -Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire-Bangor Bloomfield, Northern Ireland-Barnstaple, Devon-Beckton, Greater London-Brighton, East Sussex-Burton-Upon-Trent, Derbyshire-Cumbernauld, Scotland-Didcot, Oxfordshire-Edinburgh Princes Street, Scotland-Falkirk, Scotland-Gloucester, Gloucestershire-Great Yarmouth-Grimsby, Lincolnshire-Hanley, Staffordshire-Hartlepool, County Durham-Hereford, Herefordshire-Kilmarnock, Scotland-Kirkcaldy, Scotland-Leeds Birstall Park, West Yorkshire-Lisburn, Northern Ireland-Northwich, Cheshire-Norwich, Norfolk-Oxford, Oxfordshire-Perth, Scotland-Poole, Dorset-Rochdale, Greater Manchester-St Helens, Merseyside-Stockton On Tees, County Durham-Surrey Quays, Greater London-Sutton Coldfield, Warwickshire-Taunton, Somerset-Workington, Cumbria-Wrexham, Wales

JLR report profitable quarter despite fall in sales
Jaguar Land Rover has reported a profit for the 11th quarter in a row despite drops in revenue and sales. Revenue for the first quarter was £6.6 billion, down 9.2 per cent on the same period last year, with profit before tax falling to £351 million - almost half the figure from last year. It has been a busy 12 months for the company, with a highly publicised rebranding late in 2024, followed by problems off the back of US president Donald Trump's controversial trade tariffs - there has also been gradual phase-out of older Jaguar models which have also contributed to fall in profits compared to the previous year. The latest quarterly figures have been announced days after it was revealed CEO Adrian Mardell would be retiring. But there are plenty of positives too - JLR has welcomed a new UK-US trade deal that has cut tariffs on UK-built cars exported to the US from 27.5 percent to 10 percent, which came into effect on 30 June. A separate EU-US agreement will also reduce tariffs on its EU-built cars in future. Balaji will become CEO from November 2025 following Mr Mardell's departure The quarter saw progress in the Coventry car maker's electrification plans, with media test drives of the new electric Range Rover and over 200 test builds of a new electric SUV at its Halewood plant. Special edition models were also launched across the Range Rover, Defender and Discovery ranges. The company's earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) remains the same at 4 percent, slightly lower than the guidance range of 5 to 7 percent. Mr Mardell said the company would continue to invest in new models, including electric Jaguar and Range Rover vehicles, with £3.8 billion planned this year. 'Thanks to our talented people and the robust foundations we have built at JLR, we delivered an 11th successive profitable quarter amid challenging global economic conditions," he said "We are grateful to the UK and US Governments for delivering at speed the new UK-US trade deal, which will lessen the significant US tariff impact in subsequent quarters, as will, in due course, the EU-US trade deal announced on 27 July 2025. "Looking ahead, we remain focused on delivering our transformational Reimagine Strategy, including investing £3.8 billion this financial year to support the development of our next-generation vehicles, including our stunning new electric Range Rover and Jaguar models." Dr Charles Tennant, a local Automotive Analyst, said: "Another successful quarterly profit driven by high profit margin Range Rover and Defender sales. "Unfortunately sales were down by 9.2% due to temporarily pausing vehicle shipments to America in April when tariffs were raised to an unsustainable level of 27.5 percent although that should settle down now that the UK - USA trade deal has been signed off at the 10 percent level. "Looking ahead the EBIT profit margin forecast of between 5 percent to 7 percent for the full year is lower than the 10 percent originally planned but I'm sure JLR will be looking at how they can increase that for next year."
