Vijayawada to host embarkation centre for AP Haj pilgrims

Hans India5 days ago
Amaravati: The Union Government has approved the establishment of an embarkation centre in Vijayawada for Haj pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh for the 2026 pilgrimage. This significant decision follows a special request from the newly formed coalition government in the state, as announced by NMD Farooq, Minister for Law and Minority Welfare.
In a statement released here on Wednesday, Minister Farooq expressed gratitude to the Central Government for its positive response.
He highlighted that the coalition government, led by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, along with the State Minority Welfare Ministry, collectively brought the need for an embarkation centre in Vijayawada to the attention of Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and Union Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu.
Minister Farooq welcomed the Central Government's official announcement of the Vijayawada centre, which will be an addition to the 17 existing embarkation points across the country.
He noted that currently, Haj pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh often travel from embarkation centres in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and other cities.
The state government has been coordinating with those respective state governments to facilitate arrangements for AP pilgrims.
The minister emphasised that having a dedicated centre in Vijayawada will allow the Andhra Pradesh government to provide better facilities and services for its pilgrims.
Recognising the additional financial burden of up to Rs 68,000 in airfare for pilgrims departing from Vijayawada, Minister Farooq announced that the coalition government will provide a subsidy of Rs 1 lakh to each pilgrim choosing to depart from the Vijayawada centre.
He also informed that the application process for Haj 2026 has already commenced.
He urged all pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh to prioritise choosing the Vijayawada embarkation centre to avail themselves of the improved facilities and the Rs 1 lakh subsidy offered by the State government.
Andhra Pradesh Waqf Committee chairman Abdul Azeez thanked Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Minister for Minorities Farooq and the Central government for sanctioning an embarkation centre in Vijayawada for Haj pilgrims.

Eknath Shinde criticizes opposition over saffron terror remarks

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde on Monday criticised opposition parties for coining the term "saffron terror," and said the public will show people who coined the phrase their place. "When bomb blasts occurred during their tenure, they said that terrorism has no colour. But they coined the term saffron terror after the Malegaon blast," Shinde said. At a religious assembly in Hingoli during the annual Kawad Yatra procession, Shinde accused opposition parties of forgetting their religion in pursuit of vote bank politics. "I am short of words to express anger. People will show their real place to those who coined the word saffron terror, called Hindus traitors," he said. Shinde further said the saffron colour was adopted by Maratha King Shivaji Maharaj, the Warkari community of Maharashtra, and Lord Rama. "You call Hindutva's colour of saffron as that of terror. You sinned by terming saffron the colour of terrorism," he said. He added that those with an "allergy to saffron" have no right to identify as Indian. "Hindu is secular. It is an ideal style of living. Those who defamed it will face consequences," he added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like NRIs Living In Ukraine Are Eligible For INR 2 Lakh Monthly Pension. "We are not born with silver spoons in our mouths. But we are committed to bringing golden days into the lives of people of Maharashtra," Shinde said, adding that he had only freed Shiv Sena from Congress by executing operation 'taktha-palat' with the support of 50 MLAs. Shinde also said he had utilised Rs 450 crore through the Chief Minister's relief fund during his two and a half years in office, in contrast to the alleged Rs 2.5 crore utilised by Thackeray as CM.

Noida Authority set to build 35 traffic booths in city

Noida: The Noida Authority is planning to construct around 35 modern traffic booths across the city to enhance the working conditions of traffic personnel and streamline vehicular movement in high-traffic zones. These booths will be installed at those points where traffic volume is consistently high, particularly during peak hours. These include busy intersections, roundabouts, and identified "dark spots" where traffic regulation is currently hampered due to the absence of infrastructure. Authority officials have nearly finalised the design and are expected to float tenders for construction soon. "These booths are crucial to protect traffic personnel from extreme weather conditions while also offering them a vantage point to manage traffic more effectively," said a senior Authority official. In June, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Lakhan Singh Yadav, wrote a letter to the Authority mentioning about 30 key locations for the booths. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cardiologists: Teaspoon On an Empty Stomach Slims Waist from 36 To 22 Health Wellness Journal Learn more Undo This number has now gone up. The Authority plans to install the traffic booths in high-density areas like NTPC Flyover, Sector 62 Underpass, Sector 15 Metro Hospital Chowk, Film City Flyover, DND Loop, Mahamaya Flyover, Shashi Chowk, Parthla Roundabout, and Sector 104 Hydel Roundabout. Each booth costs approximately Rs 1.5 lakh, totaling Rs 50–55 lakh. These booths will serve as shelters and operational posts to improve traffic monitoring and ease congestion, especially during peak hours, accidents, or rainfall, given Noida's heavy daily vehicle movement from Delhi and nearby districts. The Authority plans to complete the construction and installation of the booths over the next few months, pending the finalisation of the tendering process.

To ensure quality, Sawant to check some PWD contracts

Porvorim: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Monday agreed to review PWD contracts or tenders where work was awarded to contractors who quoted more than 20% below the estimated costs. He reassured the assembly that govt will ensure that the quality will not be compromised. MLAs, including from BJP, said work quality is likely to be affected, thus leading to sub-standard works. BJP MLA Nilesh Cabral moved a calling attention motion demanding that the CM outline steps to address the concerns. 'I will check all the tenders that have come out since the circular was issued. I will revisit all the contracts issued,' said Sawant. The PWD issued a circular on May 26 saying that all tenders floated by the department from June 1 would no longer reject bids which were more than 20% below the cost estimated by the department. The circular says the contractor can submit his lowest offer, a trend GFP MLA Vijai Sardesai described as a race to the bottom. BJP MLA Govind Gaude urged Sawant to withdraw the circular and set a lower limit of 10% for bids. Sawant said that to ensure quality for all road and infrastructure works worth over Rs 50 lakhs, a third-party agency would conduct a quality audit. While earlier, RITES was tasked with monitoring the quality of the works, the PWD has now appointed a new agency since it was unhappy with RITES' performance. For works worth up to Rs 50 lakh, PWD's works division XI, which handles quality control, ensures that all the works taken up by the department meet quality standards. However, MLAs disagreed with Sawant's assurances.
