As per Sebi mandate, medium duration funds must invest in debt and money market instruments with Macaulay duration of three to four years. As you can see, these schemes are suitable for investors looking to invest for three to four years or more. However, you should check the portfolio duration of the scheme to ensure that the scheme is in line with your investment horizon.
Not a crowd favourite
Most mutual fund advisors do not recommend medium and long term debt schemes to regular investors. These schemes are extremely sensitive to changes in the interest rate environment. They suffer when the rates go up. Mutual fund advisors say many conservative investors would find it difficult to handle the volatility faced by these schemes.

Methodology
ETMutualFunds has employed the following parameters for shortlisting the debt mutual fund schemes.
1. Mean rolling returns:
Rolled daily for the last three years.
2. Consistency in the last three years:
Hurst Exponent, H is used for computing the consistency of a fund. The H exponent is a measure of randomness of NAV series of a fund. Funds with high H tend to exhibit low volatility compared to funds with low H.
i)When H = 0.5, the series of returns is said to be a geometric Brownian time series. This type of time series is difficult to forecast.
ii)When H <0.5, the series is said to be mean reverting.
iii)When H>0.5, the series is said to be persistent. The larger the value of H, the stronger is the trend of the series
3. Downside risk:
We have considered only the negative returns given by the mutual fund scheme for this measure.
X =Returns below zero
Y = Sum of all squares of X
Z = Y/number of days taken for computing the ratio
Downside risk = Square root of Z
4. Outperformance:
Fund Return – Benchmark return. Rolling returns rolled daily is used for computing the return of the fund and the benchmark and subsequently the Active return of the fund.
Asset size:
For debt funds, the threshold asset size is Rs 50 crore

New JERC rules push power dept to plan for demand, prevent shortages

Panaji: To improve electricity reliability, the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) has notified guidelines to help power distribution companies plan power purchases better and avoid shortages. These rules, known as the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (Framework for Resource Adequacy) Regulations, 2025, are designed to ensure that there is enough electricity available to meet the growing demand, especially during peak seasons like summer. According to the guidelines, electricity distribution agencies like the Goa electricity department will be required to forecast how much power will be needed on a monthly, seasonal and yearly basis. Department officials must plan for any gaps in power requirements and contract additional power if needed. This will help avoid sudden power cuts or blackouts during high-demand periods, the guidelines stated. 'Peak demand (in MW) shall be determined by considering the average load factor, load diversity factor, seasonal variation factors for the last three years, and the load forecasts (in MWh) obtained,' the guidelines said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Capital Gains Exemptions for Seniors SmartAsset Learn More Undo Failure to plan power requirements leading to power cuts could result in penalties, according to the notified guidelines. These penalties cannot be passed on to the consumers. It is expected to hold the Goa electricity department accountable and prevent mismanagement. The new rules also make it mandatory for electricity providers to publicly share how much power they are buying or selling. This data must be uploaded to their websites regularly. Consumers will now be able to access information on power availability, giving them greater visibility into how their electricity is being managed. These guidelines also apply to state transmission companies and full, open access consumers that are connected to the power grid. The JERC guidelines push for improved coordination among power companies, load management centres, and govt bodies. All electricity providers will have to work together to share data on power demand, availability and consumer usage patterns. The Goa electricity department will have to set up two dedicated teams — one for long-term planning and another to manage day-to-day electricity buying and selling of power. These teams will be responsible for ensuring there is no gap between demand and supply, the guidelines said.

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh is set to develop around 5,000 MW capacity of decentralised solar plants under the Surya Mitra Krishi Feeder Yojana in the state. A Surya Mitra Krishi Feeder Yojana Summit is being organised on June 10 at the Kushabhau Thakre Convention Hall for potential investors. Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam (MPUVN) has invited tenders for developing these solar plants across 1900 agricultural feeders in the state. Sources said that an overall 1,200 MW capacity will be eligible for central financial assistance or subsidy, as data of around 2.45 lakh irrigation pumps connected with these agricultural feeders is available. However, as there are several other factors that make the load at each of the sub-stations more than the connected irrigation pumps, making the process flexible, MPUVN has kept it open for the bidders. Bidders could opt for the entire sub-station capacity irrespective of the capacity eligible for central assistance or subsidy. For example, if a sub-station has a potential capacity of 3 MW but only 1.5 MW load of irrigation pumps are connected in the sub-station, then central subsidy will be available only for 1.5 MW. However, MPUVN has sought bids for the entire 3 MW. Thus, the bidder may opt for half of the central assistance, a part of it, the entire amount, or even opt to bid without taking any assistance. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo The bidder will have to quote the overall price for the entire 3 MW, and the lowest one will be awarded the work of development. "We expect that this will lead to the development of solar projects with a capacity between 3,000 MW and 5000 MW, provided we get reasonable rates. Thus, the investments could be around Rs 20,000 crore. Besides the flexibility for bidders in choosing the portion for which they want central financial assistance, we have also signed MoUs with three banks for assistance in financing the projects. These banks will provide loans for the development of the projects at reasonable rates and within a stipulated period of time," managing director of MP Urja Vikas Nigam, Amanveer Singh Bais, told TOI. Sources said that once a developer wins the bid, an MoU for the procurement of energy for 25 years will be signed with the developer.
