Donald Trump Lashes Out At Chuck Schumer As Democrats Stall Nominations

President Donald Trump in a strongly worded Truth Social post published on Saturday evening heavily criticized Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, a Democrat, for his demands in exchange for ending his party's filibuster of every nominee the president puts before the Senate.
Democrats are stalling the process, dragging it out and eating into the Senate recess and frustrating their counterparts across the aisle - as well as the president, who suggested the Republicans should tell Schumer and Democrats to "GO TO HELL!"
Newsweek reached out to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's office by email outside of normal business hours on Saturday evening for comment.
Why It Matters
Trump still has a slate of nominees needing confirmation by the Senate, but Democrats have refused to simply pass them, even as Trump demands that his nominees "should NOT BE FORCED TO WAIT" and serve his administration.
The Democrats have forced procedural votes on almost all of Trump's picks, which means the Senate has to debate and approve the rules of voting before each nominee confirmation - a process that has forced the Senate to delay its annual August recess and forcing Senate Majority Leader John Thune to keep the Senate in session over the weekend to try and push through as many nominees as possible.

What To Know
Thune ahead of the weekend said he would leave negotiations to Trump and Schumer, telling reporters on Friday: "That's how this is going to get resolved. We'll see where that leads."
That approach has ultimately led to Trump lashing out at Schumer on Truth Social after a day of back and forth, thought it remains unclear what Schumer is asking of Trump in exchange for allowing the confirmations to proceed at a normal pace.
Trump instead blasted "Cryin' Chuck Schumer" and claimed the senator was "demanding over One Billion Dollars in order to approve a small number of our highly qualified nominees, who should right now be helping to run our Country."
"This demand is egregious and unprecedented, and would be embarrassing to the Republican Party if it were accepted," Trump wrote. "It is political extortion, by any other name."
"Tell Schumer, who is under tremendous political pressure from within his own party, the Radical Left Lunatics, to GO TO HELL!" he continued. "Do not accept the offer, go home and explain to your constituents what bad people the Democrats are, and what a great job the Republicans are doing, and have done, for our Country. Have a great RECESS and, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!"
In a previous post, Trump said he was "Very proud of our great Republican Senators for fighting, over the Weekend and far beyond, if necessary, in order to get my great Appointments approved, and on their way to helping us MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
He also said in that earlier post that the "Democrats want our Country to fail, because they have failed. Thank you to Senator John Thune and our Republican Warriors in the Senate. Fight and WIN. I am with you all the way!!!"
He later in the evening posted two further messages - one in which he called the Democrats "EXTORTIONISTS WHO ALMOST DESTROYED OUR COUNTRY," and one in which he again praised "A great job done" by Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson for their work on passing the One Big Beautiful Bill.
However, Democrats have indicated they have no desire to give in so quickly, even as they see a chance to retreat and regroup after months of unsuccessfully trying to get any concessions on Trump's bill and failing to prevent the passage of a Recissions Bill, which has gutted some public funding.
Three Republicans have at times worked with Democrats throughout the process: Chuck Grassley of Iowa, Josh Hawley of Missouri, and Susan Collins of Maine - and Trump has criticized all of them at various times throughout the week in Truth Social posts.
What Happens Next
The Senate still has to see to dozens of nominations, according to The Associated Press. Confirming all of them with the current process that Democrats have pursued could take months, but the Senate may simply go on recess for August and return to fight it out again in September.

Everyone Is Laughing At JD Vance's Response To His Character In The New "South Park" Episode

Remember when the White House had a complete meltdown over South Park airing an episode about Donald Trump getting into bed with Satan and unveiling a micropenis? Well, the show aired its second episode of Season 27 last night, along with JD Vance's character debut. Related: JD is depicted as Trump's brown-nosing lackey who the president calls "stupid"... ...and literally kicks around. At one point, when Trump bursts into Satan's bedroom and immediately takes off his pants, JD appears with a bottle, asking, "Would you like me to apply the baby oil to Satan's asshole, boss?" Now, the real JD Vance has responded (and he's opting for a different approach in his public statement than the White House). Related: "Well, I've finally made it," the 41-year-old shared on X alongside an image from the episode. His post has been viewed by over 14.7 million a lot of them aren't buying his attempt to brush it off. Related: "This is JD pretending he's cool with it," one person wrote. Someone questioned why JD chose the image of him and Trump standing next to each other, instead of the one inside Satan's room. Another mocked him for "making it." A TON of people left comments saying something like, "we're not laughing with you. We're laughing AT YOU." Related: Or they suggested he may just not understand that the depiction is no laughing matter. Regardless, commenters insisted, "The likeness [of the character and JD] is exquisite." Trump administration will end $7 billion solar energy grant program

(Reuters) -The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will end a $7 billion Biden-era grant program to expand solar energy to low-income communities, Administrator Lee Zeldin said in a post on X on Thursday. "EPA no longer has the authority to administer the program or the appropriated funds to keep this boondoggle alive," Zeldin said in a video post. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act signed into law by President Donald Trump last month eliminated the program's source of funding, Zeldin added. Cancellation of the Solar for All program had been widely expected. The grants were awarded in 2024 during the administration of former President Joe Biden to 60 nonprofit groups, tribes and states.

Anita Dunn defends Biden's mental fitness in GOP House committee grilling

Anita Dunn, who was a senior adviser to former President Joe Biden, defended him during a five-hour closed-door deposition at the House Oversight Committee Thursday. Dunn told investigators that while she observed a "physical" decline in Biden during his four years in office, she maintained the belief that he was calling the shots and mentally engaged in decision-making at the White House. "From what I experienced and observed in the White House, President Biden made all of the important decisions expected of someone serving as the president of the United States," she told the committee, according to her prepared remarks obtained by ABC News. Dunn refused to answer any questions from reporters as she arrived and later left the deposition. But her statement indicates she believes Biden was fit to serve and West Wing staff did not usurp his power. "I did not observe White House staff making key decisions or exercising the powers of the presidency without President Biden's knowledge or consent," Dunn testified, according to the prepared remarks. "The President made it clear that decisions rested with him, and White House staff brought issues to him for him to decide." Her remarks continued, "Before scheduling a press interview or releasing statements under his name, we sought his approval, and he was an active participant in the preparation of his speeches and public I observed that President Biden aged physically during his time in office, which is something that happens to every President, he remained throughout my interactions with him fully engaged and clear in his directions and supervision. His ability to probe, to find the weakness in an argument, and to make well-informed decisions, did not change during my time in the White House." House Republicans reacted to Dunn's closed-door interview, saying Dunn "revealed" that Biden's "inner circle" decided against a cognitive test, concluding it would offer no political benefit, a source familiar with her account told ABC News. Dunn confirmed that President Biden's team decided against doing a 2024 Super Bowl interview due to information contained in the special counsel Robert Hur's report that probed Biden's handing of sensitive documents and questioned his mental fitness. She is the latest Biden official to answer questions after several former senior officials invoked their Fifth Amendment right to not answer questions.
