Pakistan Dy PM Dar to visit UK from Aug 17

Islamabad, Aug 16 (PTI) Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar will hold meetings with his British counterpart Angela Rayner and others to discuss bilateral issues during his official visit to the United Kingdom from August 17 to 19, it was announced on Saturday.
Dar, who is also the Foreign Minister, would hold meetings with the UK Deputy Prime Minister Rayner, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Pakistan, Hamish Falconer, in addition to a breakfast meeting with the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Foreign Office said in a statement here.
The deputy prime minister will also inaugurate a Punjab Land Record Authority's project, piloted at the Pakistan High Commission, London. The initiative aims to assist members of the diaspora in resolving land documentation issues in Pakistan remotely.
Additionally, Dar will engage with British Parliamentarians, Kashmiri leaders, and representatives of the British-Pakistani community.
Pakistan and UK enjoy close ties, featuring regular high-level visits and strong institutional linkages. The two countries have been engaged in Enhanced Strategic Dialogue since 2011, which has deepened and broadened the dialogue between them on issues related to trade, economic growth and development, cultural cooperation, security, and education.
Earlier this month, Pakistan and the UK pledged to deepen their partnership across key sectors, with a renewed focus on defence cooperation and strategic dialogue, during high-level talks in Rawalpindi. PTI SH NPK NPK

Listing a reality, possible in 12-18 months: Classic Legends MD Thareja
The public listing of Mahindra group-backed Classic Legends, the maker of iconic brands Yezdi, Jawa and BSA, is a reality, and a timeline of 12-18 months is a possibility, as it seeks to create a credible mid-market global brand, according to its MD and co-founder Anupam Thareja. The company -- which has an R&D centre for electric vehicles in the UK, supported by the government there -- is ready with its electric motorcycle, but will launch it only when the market is ready, especially in terms of charging infrastructure, he told PTI. When asked if a public listing of Classic Legends is on the distant horizon, Thareja said, "Not at all. In fact, you will be happy and surprised that we just gave stock also have investors in this company. So listing is a reality, and it has nothing to do with unlocking shareholder value. It is the way this is constructed. This is a global company we are creating". Stressing that the company chose to launch the BSA brand first in the UK and then in India, he said, "That is audacity, that is the belief (that we have)...the world needs a credible mid-market motorcycle brand..." He further said,"...we (will) need capital in the future, but should we have a listed vehicle? 100 per cent and that's not in the distant future by the way". When asked if the listing can happen in the next 12-18 months, Thareja said, "I don't have the desperate need to raise capital. We are sitting on Rs 875 crore of capital. So, I'm not going to do it just for money, but will it happen in 12 to 18 months? Why not, of course". On the company's electric vehicle plans, Thareja said, "We are ready with our (electric) bike, we can launch as soon as we want, but I don't think the market is ready". Elaborating, he said, for the type of bikes Classic Legends is into, long range (battery) is required, but battery packs are still expensive, and there are multiple issues related to charging infrastructure and availability of retail financing for electric motorcycles. He said electric adoption in two-wheelers will be first seen in scooters, followed by commuters, and the premium 'classics' segment is expected to be the last. Thareja said Classic Legends has "had a very deep relationship" with the UK government, which gave the company 50 per cent grant, under which "whatever money we put they will give us equal money as a grant to set up an electric R&D unit in the UK. That is running and we have an engineering segment in Coventry, which is making electric bikes". There is a very high probability that the UK will be the first market where the electric bike will be first launched, he said without disclosing details. 'More than a million British lives have been lost since WW1 in wars and battles that have never once been fought by British men, on this island," it added. 'UK should not have fought in WW2': Anderson In the post, Anderson argued that both world wars ensured that the UK was no longer a great power in the international arena. 'We impoverished ourselves for decades; we didn't finish paying the loans off to America until 2006. Our economy stagnated, we lost an empire, and we are pushed around by America. And Germany, a country we beat, has been richer than us since the 1970s," he wrote. 'Alternative history is interesting; if Britain had not fought in WW1 and WW2, it would not have had to rely on America for economic support, and it would have had the independence to act accordingly. Britain could have developed India, Cyprus, Fiji, Malta, Saint Lucia, Seychelles, the Bahamas, Australia, Canada, South Africa, Ireland and New Zealand. In the coming meritocracy, perhaps Britain could regain some of these nations.' 'God made me protector': Pak Army chief Asim Munir denies political ambitions, says report
As rumour and denials fly over his next move — possibly to become President — Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir has reportedly said he has no political ambitions. He only wants to remain 'a servant of the state', according to report in a Pakistani media outlet. There was no confirmation or denial yet from Munir's office, though he had indeed stopped over in Belgium, Dawn reported. Warraich said Munir spoke on stage, too, at Brussels in a small gathering: 'God has made me protector of the country. I do not desire any position other than that.' Munir was further quoted as having said: 'I am a soldier and my greatest desire is martyrdom.' He also warned India against destabilising Pakistan's peace through the use of 'proxies', and cautioned Afghanistan against 'pushing the Taliban into Pakistan', the column said. He was further quoted as having said Pakistan would maintain equilibrium between the US and China. "We will not sacrifice one friend for the other," he reportedly told the Jang columnist. Rumours rife of Zardari being replaced Pakistan's army leaders are often the subject of palace whispers and media speculation, given the history of coups, martial law impositions, and takeovers. Munir's alleged desires to replace President Asif Ali Zardari have made headlines ever since he was promoted to the rank of Field Marshal claiming successes against India, which had launched Operation Sindoor in May after a terror attack in Pahalgam. He is only the second officer to hold the rank in Pakistan's history — the first being Ayub Khan, who did take over Pakistan's governance. Field Marshal Munir's recent visits to the US, including a lunch meet with President Donald Trump, also fed rumours. "The talk started with politics and especially on the rumours that work is being done to change the President of Pakistan and the Prime Minister. General Asim Munir clearly said in the Brussels meeting and in the two-hour-long meeting with me that the rumours about the change are completely false," the Saturday column by Warraich read, as per ANI. Has a 'roadmap' for Pakistan Warraich said Munir also told him that the rumours weren't started by either civil or military agencies 'He said, 'In fact, there are elements behind this who oppose both the government and the authorities and wish to create political anarchy'," Warraich wrote. The rumours were earlier denied at least twice by minister Mohsin Naqvi, as well as by a military spokesperson The columnist further said Munir spoke of an ambitious roadmap to transform Pakistan, especially with its untapped potential in the mineral sector. "Pakistan has a rare earth treasure; with this treasure, Pakistan's debt will also be reduced, and Pakistan will soon be counted among the most prosperous societies," Munir stated in the interview with the Daily Jang.
