Meet the latest Australian who's set to take the NFL by storm after being drafted by Denver Broncos
Jeremy Crawshaw is set to join the ranks of Australian punters in the NFL after being drafted by the Denver Broncos.
The 23-year-old from Emu Plains in Sydney 's west was the first punter taken in the draft - going in the sixth round with pick No.216 - after being widely considered the best on offer following his five seasons with the University of Florida.
He averaged 45.8 yards for the Gators in 2024, with 25 punts downed inside the 20-yard line. In the 2023 season, he set the single-season Gators record for punt average at 48.9 yards.
Crawshaw is set to compete with veteran P Matt Haack for the Broncos' starting job. Haack signed a one-year, $US1.255 million contract with the club in March.
He is poised to join fellow Australian punters Tory Taylor (Chicago), Mitch Wishnowsky (San Francisco), Michael Dickson (Seattle) and Cameron Johnston (Pittsburgh) in the NFL.
'Crawshaw will likely move in and become an immediate NFL starter with the potential to become a genuine field-position weapon,' reads Craswhaw's pre-draft scoting report.
'The ability to execute multiple punt styles - from traditional bombs to rugby-style rollers - gives coordinators a versatile weapon for any situation.
'With his proven track record in high-pressure SEC environments and continued development throughout his college career, Crawshaw has positioned himself as the top punter in this draft class.
'His ceiling suggests a decade-plus career as a reliable NFL punter with Pro Bowl potential.'
Crawshaw was the sixth player drafted by Denver, joining first-round defensive back Jahdae Barron, second-round running back RJ Harvey, third-round wide receiver Pat Bryant and defensive end Sai'Vion Jones, and fourth-round linebacker Que Robinson.
'Played a lot of sports as a kid,'' Crawshaw told media.
'Rugby was the main one. ... Pretty much started looking for something to do after school, play some sports.

Russell Wilson pays heartbreaking tribute to his father on anniversary of his tragic death at 55
New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson honored his late father on the 15th anniversary of his tragic passing. Wilson, who signed with the Giants in the offseason, posted a picture of his dad - Harrison Wilson III - on his Instagram story. '15 Years Ago we lost you. We miss you every day Dad. Keep shining down on me. Love you! Still can see your smile today,' the 36-year-old quarterback posted. Wilson's father tragically passed away on June 9, 2010 due to complications from diabetes at just the age of 55. His death came one day after Russell was picked in the fourth round of the 2010 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies. '(My dad dying) was one of the hardest days of my life,' Wilson said (via The Denver Post). 'It was the highest of highs next to the lowest of lows, all in 24 hours. And how the Colorado Rockies organization took hold of me, took care of me was (incredible). '(Longtime scouting director and current Rockies general manager) Billy Schmidt, (scout) Jay Matthews and some other great people in this community really took me under their wing, and it really meant a lot to me along the way.' Wilson would spend some time in spring training with Colorado and played in their minor league system in the summer. However, the desire to finish out his college football career still remained. But after finishing top-15 nationally in passing yards with NC State, coach Tom O'Brien felt that Wilson wasn't as committed to playing football after signing with the Rockies. The coach said that if Wilson did return, that there wasn't a guarantee that he'd be starting. With no NFL teams interested in drafting him - and O'Brien no longer wanting him - Wilson was released from his scholarship at NC State and looked to make a transfer. On an episode of the podcast 'Not Just Football with Cam Heyward' from last August, Wilson said, 'My dad used to always tell me when I was young, I was about seven, eight years old, 'Hey son, you need to check out this school, you know, Wisconsin.'' So, when Wilson looked to make a move, he transferred to Wisconsin and the rest his history. He excelled with the Badgers, was selected in the third-round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks, and became one of the teams all-time greatest players. In spite of his father's passing, Wilson manages to stay positive through his support system - especially his family, including his wife Ciara and his children. 'When [my dad] passed away, I remember the next morning hearing like, "The sun still comes up in the morning"... No matter what we go through in life,' Wilson said during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. 'Especially when you're 1-of-32 guys... why would I be negative?'

Thomas Frank to become new Tottenham boss as first major transfer decision made
Thomas Frank is closing in on becoming the new Tottenham Hotspur manager, and he can rely on the support of a familiar face when he takes the job Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the appointment of Thomas Frank as their new manager, with the role of Spurs technical director Johan Lange instrumental in the move. Spurs sacked Ange Postecoglou on Friday, despite Europa League success, and quickly set their sights on Frank – who has gained admirers for his work over an impressive seven-year period at Brentford. After positive discussions over the weekend, there is a growing confidence that Frank will be the man to replace Postecoglou. Frank's current deal at Brentford runs until the summer of 2027 and contains a release clause reported to be in the region of £10million, as revealed by Mirror Football on Friday. Brentford are expected to hold out for Frank's release clause but, while an official approach from Tottenham is yet to occur, the Danish coach is expected to make the move across London. The 51-year-old would take over a Spurs side which won the Europa League last month but finished 17th in the Premier League. Poor domestic form during the 2024-25 season accounted for Postecoglou's job as the Spurs board were forced to make 'one of the toughest decisions' they have had to make in dismissing the head coach who ended a 17-year trophy drought. 'It is crucial that we are able to compete on multiple fronts and believe a change of approach will give us the strongest chance for the coming season and beyond,' a club statement on Friday read. Frank will be teaming up again with Spurs technical director Lange, who shared an office with him when they worked together at Danish club Lyngby. Lange has been leading Tottenham's search to appoint a successor to Postecoglou, and will oversee the club's transfer business this summer alongside Fabio Paratici, who is acting as a consultant to Spurs and will return to club in a full-time role once his worldwide football ban has been lifted. Frank will be expected to bring some of his staff with him from Brentford, with Spurs having dismissed Postecoglou's coaches Mile Jedinak, Nick Montgomery and Sergio Raimundo along with the Australian. Chief Football officer Scott Munn was also sacked on Friday as Spurs made sweeping changes to their football structure after their disastrous Premier League campaign. Mirror Football understands that Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna is top of Brentford's list of potential candidates to replace Frank in west London.

Ex-NFL star running for Congress slams Simone Biles over Riley Gaines trans feud
Simone Biles ' stance on transgender athletes in women's sports puts biological females in 'dangerous and compromising situations', says former NFL kicker-turned politician Jay Feely. Feely, who is set to run for Congress in Arizona, has weighed in on the shock trans feud that broke out between Biles and conservative political activist Riley Gaines over the weekend. The Olympic legend sparked controversy on Friday night by attacking Gaines over her protests against trans athletes competing in women's sports, writing on X: 'bully someone your own size, which would ironically be a male @Riley_Gaines_'. She then added: '@Riley_Gaines_ You're truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race. Straight up sore loser. You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports. Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports!! But instead… You bully them… One things for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!!!!!' Gaines, a former college swimmer who was forced to compete against trans athlete Lia Thomas in 2022, has since fired back at Biles, even unearthing an old post from the American gymnast in 2017 where she appeared to criticize the idea of biological males in women's sports. Men don't belong in women's sports! @Simone_Biles argument is the antithesis of title 9 and equal opportunity it's provided for women. It puts girls in dangerous, compromising situations so a man pretending to be a woman can feel better about themselves. @Riley_Gaines_ worked… — Jay Feely (@jayfeely) June 7, 2025 A number of high-profile figures have given their take on the dispute, including Feely - who claims Biles would not have won any Olympic medals if she had to compete against trans gymnasts. 'Men don't belong in women's sports! @Simone_Biles argument is the antithesis of title 9 and equal opportunity it's provided for women. It puts girls in dangerous, compromising situations so a man pretending to be a woman can feel better about themselves,' the ex-football star said on X. '@Riley_Gaines_ worked her whole life, earned a NCAA championship, and had it taken away by a man who wouldn't have even placed if he competed with the other men. 'Simone doesn't win any medal if she competes against men. Serena Williams doesn't win any tournaments if she competes against men. They are the best ever to do it. Why should we compromise with our high school and college girls and take away their opportunities.' Like Feely, former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick has also sided with Gaines amid her spat with Biles over trans athletes in women's sports. Patrick said the gymnast had been 'red pilled' in reference to being fed the wrong information. 'This issue has a shelf life. I truly believe common sense will prevail. But until then, I am grateful for people like Riley Gaines who are making sure no one gets away with it,' she said on Instagram. 'Not to mention the fact that she actually lived it. Defending men in women's sports is the woke mind virus and/or another issue that requires therapy. Either way, it is so irrational.' Gaines responded by unearthing an old post where the Olympics legend argued differently Biles has yet to make any additional comments since her shock outburst towards Gaines on Friday night. The latter has forged a career as a political commentator for OutKick and Fox following her time as a swimmer. Her campaigning has won praise from Donald Trump, who welcomed her to the White House before signing the 'Keeping Men out of Women's Sports' executive order in February. On Friday, Gaines initially retweeted a picture of Minnesota team Champlin Park celebrating the state high school title that they won with transgender pitcher Marissa Rothenberger on the team. 'Comments off lol,' she wrote in response to the post. 'To be expected when your star player is a boy.' That sparked the blistering response from Biles where she first slammed Gaines' view before comparing her appearance to a man.
