Speaking to reporters, he recalled the Supreme Court's observation that 'the Enforcement Directorate is crossing all limits and violating the federal concept of governance.' The Court also stayed the money laundering probe against the Tamil Nadu-run liquor retailer TASMAC over alleged corruption in the grant of wine shop licences.
Mr. Bharathi contended the Supreme Court's order had only proved that the ED was functioning like a blackmailing organisation. He pointed out an ED official had already been arrested in Kerala in a ₹2 crore bribery case, and another officer was caught accepting money from a doctor in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu.
He alleged the BJP government was using the ED to tarnish the image of the DMK government ahead of the elections, which are just 'seven months' away. 'It is unable to digest the winning combination of the DMK and its allies. Though many cases have been pending against TASMAC for years, the BJP government targets only the DMK government,' he claimed.
'The Supreme Court's order has come as a severe blow to the BJP government,' he added.

Rajesh Khimji Sakriya from Gujarat, who was arrested after he assaulted Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during a 'Jan Sunwai' in the Capital on Wednesday, has five cases registered against him at Bhaktinagar police station in Rajkot, mostly for violating the Gujarat Prohibition Act and voluntarily causing hurt. His mother Bhanu Khimji Sakriya, who lives near Aji Dam police station in Rajkot, told mediapersons that 41-year-old Rajesh was a 'dog lover' and had been upset by the recent Supreme Court judgment directing authorities in Delhi to pick up all stray dogs and place them in shelters. Speaking to mediapersons hours after the incident, Bhanu said, 'He left on Sunday and reached Delhi on Monday. When his father asked him about his whereabouts, Rajesh said he had gone to Delhi for the dogs.' On why he assaulted the Delhi CM, she added, 'His mind is like that. He will hit anyone. He has hit me also and his wife as well. He has mental (issues) but is not on any medication. He got so angry upon learning about the dogs issue that he almost broke the bed hitting it in anger.' Rajesh, his father and brother are all autorickshaw drivers in Rajkot. According to a police document, five cognizable cases have been lodged against Sakriya between 2017 and 2024 at Bhaktinagar police station in Rajkot. Preventive action, including internment, had also been initiated against him by the police under the Gujarat Prohibition Act in 2017, 2020, 2021 and 2022. While in 2017, he was booked for voluntarily causing hurt, he was acquitted in the case in 2019. The next year, he was booked under the Prohibition Act in two cases but acquitted in both in 2023. He was again booked under the Prohibition Act in 2022. The case is pending before the Second Additional Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate First Class in Rajkot. In 2024, Sakriya was booked for voluntarily causing hurt but was acquitted the same year. Inspector A B Jadeja of Aji Dam police station, who questioned Bhanu, said, 'We learnt that Rajesh has studied till Class 8, and drives an autorickshaw. It appears that he first went to Ujjain and from there to Delhi.' DCP Jagdish Bangarwa of Rajkot City Police told The Indian Express, 'According to his mother, Rajesh Sakriya appears to be an animal lover who was disturbed by the SC judgement. He went to Delhi because of this dog issue.' 'His neighbours told us that Sakriya used to feed stray dogs in his area. Many times, he had taken injured or sick dogs to hospital in his autorickshaw. We were also told that he wanted to build a shelter home for stray dogs,' the DCP was quoted as saying by PTI. 'We learnt he was only concerned about stray dogs and gave more importance to these animals than his family,' he said, adding that Sakriya is married and has a child. 6 Policemen Arrested For Constable's Custodial Torture In Jammu And Kashmir
Srinagar: The CBI on Wednesday arrested six police personnel, including at least two officers, in connection with the alleged custodial torture of a cop, following orders from the Supreme Court last month, officials said here on Wednesday. The arrested cops include a deputy superintendent of police, an inspector, and an assistant sub-inspector, officials said here. The accused cops were directed to submit their weapons and other government articles to the respective District Police Lines. One of the accused cops -- a special police officer working on an honorarium -- has been disengaged and struck off from Special Police Officer (SPO) rolls. Further details were awaited, the officials said. On July 21, the Supreme Court directed the CBI to register an FIR over the "brutal and inhuman custodial torture" of a police constable in Jammu and Kashmir and ordered the UT administration to pay him Rs 50 lakh in compensation. A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta said the injuries caused to the constable during his illegal detention, particularly the "complete mutilation of his genitalia, use of pepper/chilly powder and electric shocks on his genitalia", were grave reminders of the inhuman torture meted out to him. "The cumulative effect of all these facts is deeply shocking to the conscience of this court," the bench said, adding that the violation of Article 21 is "not only evident but egregious." The bench observed that the constable suffered life-debilitating injuries in the custody of "fellow state actors" and despite repeated complaints, no effective redressal was provided.
