
SASTRA releases BTech admission ranklist
Trichy: Applicants from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Chennai topped in the rank list released by SASTRA Deemed University on Saturday for admissions to various BTech programmes.
In Stream 1, where 50% of seats is based on JEE Main score and Class XII marks, Akela Meghavan Sarma from Chaitanya Junior College, Karnelampalayam, Andhra Pradesh, came first with a combined score of 99.39. Her Plus Two aggregate was 991/1,000 and her JEE Main score was 99.69. Burra Nishitha from Chaitanya Junior College, Begumpet, Telangana, came second with a combined score of 99.30.
In Stream 2, where seats are based on Class XII aggregate scores, Induri Rashmitha from S R Junior College, Khammam, bagged the first rank with her aggregate 996 /1,000 in Class XII examinations.
Akshaya Sivaguru from Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan School, KK Nagar, Chennai, secured the second rank with an aggregate score of 498/500.
About 40,000 students from various states applied for admissions. SASTRA said a 'transparent online counselling' for admissions would be held from June 15. The institute uses JEE-Main scores and +2 aggregate for admission process without conducting its own entrance exams.

Desliting of Gayaji dam, ponds begins ahead of Pitripaksh Mela
Gaya: District magistrate (DM) Shashank Shubhankar held a meeting with stakeholders of Pitripaksh Mela and senior officials here on Saturday, to discuss preparations for the fortnight event scheduled this year from Sept 6 to 21. He instructed officials to decide a theme and decorate the mela area with paintings. The DM instructed to tag locations of all the 'pind vedis' on Google map, and integrate AI (artificial intelligence) based chat bot in govt app and portals. "These advanced technologies will help the tech-savvy pilgrims to solve language related problem and trace the landmark of desired 'pind vedis', he said. Meanwhile, the cleaning of silt from the bottom of Gayaji dam began on Sunday so that pilgrims can take a dip in the clean water before performing rituals and offering 'tarpan'. The DM also instructed to get the silt cleaned near Saraswati, Dharmaranya, Pitamaheshwar and other 'pind vedi' sites, falling along the Falgu river side. The pilgrims perform tarpan at eight ponds and pinddaan at 52 pind vedis spread from Pretshila (North of Gayaji town) to Bodh Gaya (south). The DM further instructed senior officials, heading different committees, to constitute sub-committees for physical inspection of the ongoing preparations. He also asked them to hold weekly meeting of officials and the staff, and prepare a checklist to ensure proper division of work. He instructed municipal commissioner to get a survey conducted and prepare a plan for repair of the roads, slabs and the grill of drains of the mela area, restart the laser light show and fountain at Vaitarni pond, get the broken tiles at Deoghat replaced and ensure availability of drinking water, besides, cleaning and repair of toilets and changing rooms. Installation of additional power transformers, proper lighting arrangements leaving no dark spot, parking, accommodation arrangements were among other key instructions, the DM gave to officials concerned at the meeting. Small-town success: Kodagu's KG Nidhi cracks NEET with AIR 84, secures 7th rank in Karnataka
MYSURU: KG Nidhi, a student who completed her primary education in Srimangala in Kodagu and secondary education at Navodaya Vidyalaya in Galibeedu, Madikeri, achieved success in the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET-UG2025) by securing 84th at the all-India level and 7th rank for the state of Karnataka. The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the results of the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET-UG2025). She secured a seat for education in the medical field by obtaining 648 marks out of 720. Nidhi, who is currently studying PUC in Mangaluru, secured the 550th rank in Engineering in CET. She has now secured the 84th rank at the national level in NEET. This achievement was possible through continuous effort and hard work. "I engaged in preliminary preparation for the NEET exam from the first PUC. I also received encouragement in the college. The cooperation of my parents cannot be expressed in words. Overall, I will continue my education in the medical field as per my wish," she said. She completed her primary education at J.C. Primary School in Srimangala and her secondary education at Galibeedu Navodaya. 'Mayday! Mayday!' Air India pilot's final radio message before deadly Ahmedabad plane crash
Ill-fated Air India aircraft's pilot Captain Sumeet Sabharwal's last radio message to Ahmedabad air traffic control was a 'Mayday' call. As per aviation authorities, flight AI 171 crashed seconds after Sabharwal's message to the ATC in Ahmedabad on Thursday, June 12. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, SK Sinha, the Aviation Ministry Secretary, said that the pilots made the distress call to ATC when the plane failed to rise above 650 feet after takeoff. Seconds after the distress call, ATC responded but the plane had crashed by then, killing 241 people on board. A British national seated in 11A has been identified as the sole survivor of the incident. "Thrust not achieved... falling... Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!," was the pilot's last message to ATC as reported by TOI. As per aviation authorities, the plane took off at 1:39 PM and a few seconds after, started sinking after reaching a height of 650 feet. "The plane took off at 1.39 pm and, within a few seconds, after reaching a height of about 650 feet, it started sinking, i.e., it started losing height. The pilot informed Ahmedabad ATC that it was a 'mayday', i.e., a full emergency. When ATC tried to contact, it did not receive a response," Sinha said in a press conference. "After exactly a minute, the plane crashed in Meghaninagar, which is two kilometres from the airport. The Captain was Sumeet Sabharwal and the First Officer was Clive Sundar," the aviation secretary added further. Thursday's plane crash in Ahmedabad has killed a total of 270 people. This includes 241 people who were on board the London-bound flight and the 29 people who were killed after the plane crashed into the hostel of B.J. Medical College. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was bound for London's Gatwick when it crashed. Of the 242 people on board, only one passenger survived the crash. The black box of the plane was recovered by officials during the rescue and relief operations. As per Union Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu, the data from the black box will help identify the exact cause of the deadly plane crash.
