The revival of the Capri name might have proved controversial, but there's nothing to get hot-under-the-collar about with the price. We've spotted the electric coupe-SUV being offered for less than £235 a month right now.
Lease deals on the new Ford Capri just keep getting cheaper and cheaper, and this one, from Carparison via the Auto Express Find a Car service, is the cheapest we've seen. Advertisement - Article continues below
A reasonable £3,107.76 is required as an initial payment, followed by a monthly outlay of £234.08, for a total of 24 months. Mileage is capped at 5,000 a year, but this can be bumped up to 8,000 for an extra £21.20 a month should you need more flexibility.
This deal bags you a Capri Select. It's the lesser of the two specs available (an even cheaper Style is due soon) but it's still feature-packed.
Niceties include heated sports seats, a 12-way electrically adjustable driver's seat with memory and a massage function, a wireless charging pad, and a portrait-shaped 14.6-inch touchscreen. Plus, this deal also throws in metallic paint for free.
The interior itself is modern, without a hint of the retro design you might expect. The dashboard is carried over in its entirely from the Explorer electric SUV, so you can expect a quality feel and simple-to-use touchscreen. Despite that sloping roofline room in the back passenger space is generous, and there's a sizeable 572-litre boot.
Powering the Capri is a 282bhp electric motor that sends its juice to the rear wheels, and there's a 77kWh battery pack. It's a sprightly car with 0-62mph taking a very brisk 6.4 seconds, and the Capri has a more dynamic feel than the Volkswagen ID models it shares so much componentry with. Range, meanwhile, stands at a claimed 389 miles; in our testing that equates to around 250 in the winter and over 300 in the summer.

Elsewhere, however, Provost and his team have refused to turn former CEO Luca de Meo's well-defined strategy on its head, prioritising 'value over volume'. UK government's blunt response as scheme to get people buying more EVs is criticised
After critics questioned the reach of the government's Electric Car Grant due to the ineligibility of a large number of models, a spokesperson hit back defending the initiative The UK government has issued a blunt response to criticism over its Electric Car Grant — a scheme cutting the cost of selected models by up to £3,750. To encourage Brits to make the switchover from internal combustion engine (ICE) to electric vehicles (EVs), the Department for Transport (DfT) announced the £650 million grant, which runs for for three years and can be claimed on any eligible model costing up to £37,000. The initiative is part of the government's wider efforts to increase EV uptake, while helping the UK meet environmental targets and close in on its goal of banning the sale of new ICE cars by 2030. It comes after UK drivers were warned over 'avoiding' road instead of having to follow new rule. Officially launched on July 16 with the aim of making EVs more affordable for the average UK household, the most environmentally friendly and sustainably produced models qualify for the biggest price reductions. Manufacturers apply for the grant directly, and once their models are approved, customers see the discounts in dealerships. But the ECG has received mixed reactions from the automotive industry. While an expert from Auto Express welcomed the assistance for motorists switching over to EVs, they also expressed concerns regarding the scheme's reach. In a statement sent to the Mirror, head of digital content at the automotive publication, Steve Walker, said: "EV registrations have been growing steadily and are up nearly 35 per cent year on year. But there are two problems. "First, the rate of uptake still falls below the levels required by the government's ZEV mandate targets for manufacturers. Second, most of these new registrations are being driven by the fleet sector. He added: "Around 70 per cent of new EVs cost more than £40,000, yet the new grant of up to £3,750 is only available at the point of sale for cars priced at or under £37,000, meaning most models won't qualify. And, as of April, EVs priced at £40,000 or more are also no longer exempt from the expensive car 'road tax' supplement." Since April 2025, owners of EVs with a price tag of £40,000 or more have been required to pay an additional annual £410 in road tax for five years, working out at a total extra cost of £2,050. Auto Express has urged the government to rethink this. While Steve described the new grant as a 'welcome boost', he argued that to really speed up private EV adoption, the government must drop the luxury car tax for EVs while also improving access to charging points — particularly for people without access to home charging. Responding to the criticism, a Department for Transport spokesperson told the Mirror: "The price cap ensures the Electric Car Grant targets the more affordable end of the market, ensuring funding can reach as many people as possible, rather than spending taxpayer's money subsidising luxury cars. "The grant is in addition to the £63 million announced this week to support charging infrastructure, making it cheaper and easier for families, businesses and the public sector to make the switch."

The VW Passat just got far more appealing with £5k of options for free
Volkswagen has updated the line-up of the plug-in hybrid version of the Passat by adding two new versions, called Match and Black Edition. The company claims that up to £4,905 of options now come free of charge. Joining the mid-range £47,650 Elegance, the entry-level Match replaces the old Life trim, but costs the same £45,555. The Black Edition costs the same as the outgoing R-Line, from £48,900, and Volkswagen says the new editions can be ordered from 14 August. Match is better equipped than the outgoing Life, with additional features including metallic paint, VW's LED matrix headlights, tinted rear windows and an 'assistance pack' which adds area view and emergency assist. Advertisement - Article continues below The new Black Edition comes with metallic paint, 19-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, tinted rear windows (darker than the Match's), heated front and rear seats, a head-up display, a 15-inch central touchscreen and the same assistance pack as the Match. The new Match and Black Edition trims are offered only on the PHEV Passat, which uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a plug-in hybrid system featuring a 19.7kWh battery – enough for an 82-mile electric-only range. The pricing quoted above is based on the 201bhp Passat eHybrid, but from £50,370 you also can get the more potent 268bhp version starting with Elegance trim.
