Bears owner Virginia Halas McCaskey dies at 102
The Bears announced that team owner Virginia Halas McCaskey died at the age of 102.
McCaskey took control of the team after the death of her father George Halas in 1983. She was on hand for the team's only Super Bowl title after the 1985 season and was alive for eight of their nine overall NFL championships.
'While we are sad, we are comforted knowing Virginia Halas McCaskey lived a long, full, faith-filled life and is now with the love of her life on earth,' McCaskey's family said in a statement. 'She guided the Bears for four decades and based every business decision on what was best for Bears players, coaches, staff and fans. Over the last 41-plus years, Mrs. McCaskey continued the steadfast mission set forth by her father to uphold the values of the City of Chicago, its people and its fans. Mrs. McCaskey understood, not only her father's love and appreciation of football and the team which he played for, coached and owned, but also the love of the Chicago Bears by its fans. She always kept in mind what the Bears meant to the City of Chicago and what the city meant to the Bears."
McCaskey's son Michael McCaskey succeeded her as team chairman in 1999. Her son George took over that role in 2011.

Milton Williams fully participated in his first offseason with Patriots
During the offseason program, the players who don't show up get most of the attention. The players who fully participate get overlooked. For the Patriots, where newcomers like receiver Stefon Diggs and cornerback Carlton Davis generated headlines for not showing up for voluntary workouts, newly-signed defensive tackle Milton Williams did. Advertisement Via Mike Reiss of the former Eagles defender was a full participant in the offseason program. Reiss adds this observation: "And he seemed to embrace Vrabel's approach of being hardest on the team's best players." While Vrabel and all coaches are prevented by the Collective Bargaining Agreement from saying or doing anything to suggest that the voluntary workouts aren't voluntary, this specific aspect of Vrabel's plan for coaching his team demonstrates how he feels about players choosing — and not choosing — to be there. Given that Vrabel likes to be hardest on the team's best players, it'll be interesting to see if players like Diggs and Davis have bought themselves an even more memorable experience in late July and August.

PFF ranks Broncos' Brandon Jones among NFL's top 10 safeties
Zoltan Buday of Pro Football Focus recently compiled a list of the top 32 safeties in the NFL heading into the 2025 season. Denver Broncos safety Brandon Jones -- who had a solid season in 2024 with 115 tackles, three interceptions, and ten pass deflections -- made the cut. Buday ranked Jones in the top 10. 'Durability was an issue for Jones during his years with the Dolphins, but while he never topped 650 snaps with Miami, he logged 1,042 snaps in his first season with the Broncos," Buday wrote on PFF. "He further elevated his play, too, especially in coverage. He earned an 89.8 PFF coverage grade, which ranked third among safeties, similar to his 84.8 PFF overall grade.' While Jones didn't nab a Pro Bowl or All-Pro last fall, his play helped boost the Broncos back to the playoffs for the first time since their Super Bowl season in 2015.
