Planning for new ghats along Godavari in final stage, says divisional commissioner
They said the work is set to commence after the rainy season with a strong focus on crowd management, river cleanliness, and infrastructure readiness. Arrangements are being made to ensure the Godavari river has water flowing year-round.Praveen Gedam, the Nashik divisional commissioner who heads the Kumbh Mela Authority established by state govt, said, "The work on the finalisation of the location of the ghats and their planning is almost done.
This exercise is being carried out to diversify the large number of people who come during the Amrut Snan at both Nashik and Trimbakeshwar to take a dip in the Godavari. This will not only help in crowd management during the Simhastha Kumbh Mela, which occurs during the rainy season, but will also help people bathe peacefully."
Gedam added that the major works requiring more time have been prioritised, with less time-consuming projects scheduled to begin later.

"We have less time in hand now. However, the projects that require a longer duration have already started, and the others will begin by Jan," he said.
A significant issue facing the Godavari is the mixing of untreated sewage with river water, along with seasonal water scarcity. "Regarding the work on sewage treatment plants, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has already started taking steps for the Rs 1600 crore project.
The other measure being carried out is for the continuous flow of water. This is being done by pumping in water from smaller adjoining dams in Trimbakeshwar taluka into the Godavari.
The flow will be limited only for the special days across the year," Gedam said.
He also said the Railways is undertaking major augmentation of Nashik Road railway station along with Devlali, Odha, Kasbe-Sukene, and Kherwadi railway stations, which would be assigned to handle passengers coming by trains from specific regions. Gedam said while there would be no compromise on security arrangements, measures would be taken to ensure pilgrims did not face hardships as experienced during the Amrit Snan in the Kumbh Mela 2014-15.
"We will have an incident-free Kumbh Mela at Nashik, for which precautions are being taken by all the govt departments concerned," he said.

To protect flood-prone areas PMC demands Rs 300 cr from disaster management dept for RFD project
Claiming that the RiverFront Development (RFD) project would provide complete protection of adjoining localities of Mutha river from flooding and increase the water carrying capacity of the river, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has sought Rs 300 crore from the state Disaster Management department for developing the RFD on a stretch from Vadgaon Khurd to Rajaram bridge to tackle the flooding at Ektanagar, Vitthalnagar and Nimbajnagar on Sinhagad road, when water is released from Khadakwasla dam. 'The Rs 4,727 crore RFD project is implemented in phases for the 44.40 km stretch of the Mula and Mutha river passing through the civic area. This project will increase the water carrying capacity of the rivers and also provide complete protection from flooding to localities alongside the river,' said municipal commissioner Naval Kishore Ram. Last year and as well as in the past, the locality of Ektanagar, Vitthalnagar and Nimbajnagar on Sinhagad road witnessed flooding after a large amount of water was released from Khadakwasla dam. 'The residents of the flood affected localities are demanding immediate implementation of the RFD project at the Mutha river bank alongside their locality. However, the entire project completion will take ten years and the 4.10 km river stretch in the area needs Rs 300 crore for development under RFD. If the state government gives funds through Disaster Management for the purpose then the development of the stretch can be taken up immediately,' he said. The project includes constructing embankments on both sides, a jogging track, tree plantations, beautification of the bank and stopping sewage water from entering through nullahs in the area. The Pune civic body has completed 90 percent work of RFD on 3.7 km stretch from Sangamwadi to Bundgarden, 32 percent of work on 5.3 km river stretch from Bund Garden to Mundhwa bridge while recently started work on the 8.8 km stretch from Wakad bypass to Sangvi, he added. New Garia Metro station closed after cracks found in pillars
1 2 Kolkata: The North-South Metro's terminal Kavi Subhas station at New Garia was closed temporarily after cracks were discovered in the last four pillars on which the Up platform stands. All trains are now being terminated at Shahid Khudiram, the elevated metro station at Dhalai Bridge in Garia. It is the second last metro station on the city's southern fringes. Metro Railway workers spotted the cracks in the pillars on Monday morning and alerted their supervisors, following which inspections were conducted. "Around 12.45 pm, the metro station's services were suspended. Preliminary investigations suggest ground subsidence due to the heavy downpour over the past few days. The uneven ground settlement seemed to have caused cracks on the four piers on the Up platform at Kavi Subhas station. As a measure of precaution and to ensure the safety of passengers, services to and from Kavi Subhas station have been withdrawn. We are trying to resume operations from the terminal station as soon as possible," a metro spokesperson said, adding, "Train services on the Blue Line will operate between Shahid Khudiram and Dakshineswar in both Up and Down directions till further notice. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Indonesia: Unsold Sofas at Bargain Prices (Prices May Surprise You) Sofas | Search Ads Search Now Undo The damage is being assessed. Officials confirmed this was the first time since the North-South Line's southern extension (in two phases in 2009-10) to New Garia from Tollygunge that a metro station was closed. "The design of the elevated section from Tollygunge to Kavi Subhas is flawed. The pier strengthening work was supposed to start long ago. PTR plans steps to raise awareness about tiger conservation
1 2 Daltonganj: The Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR) is gearing up for a series of events to commemorate International Tiger Day on July 29. The celebrations aim to raise awareness about tiger conservation and promote tourism in the region. One of the key highlights of the day will be the inauguration of smart classes for the relocated communities of Jaigeer and Kujrum at Polpol. This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts to support the families who have voluntarily moved out of the core areas of the reserve to minimise human-wildlife conflict. In a bid to boost tourism, preparations are underway for a detailed project report on a proposed tiger safari. The safari is planned to be located at Phutwagarh, outside the 1,150 sqkm of the reserve, ensuring it does not disturb the natural habitat of the tigers. The Tiger Conservation Foundation will hold a crucial meeting at Betla later in the day, which is considered vital for the future of the PTR. The event will be graced by state finance minister Radha Krishana Kishore and tourism minister Sudivya Kumar, along with other dignitaries and wildlife officials. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 25 of the Best Cities to Live In Learn More Undo Chief conservator of forest and field director of PTR, S R Natesh, addressed the media on Monday, highlighting the challenges and achievements of the reserve. He emphasised the need for inviolate areas for tigers, citing human disturbances as a significant concern. "We are committed to creating more space for wildlife," Natesh said. The reserve, one of India's first nine tiger reserves, is home to 20 villages with a population of 8,000 people. Natesh praised the voluntary relocation of 22 families from Jaigeer village, who have now settled at Polpol, enjoying a better quality of life. Looking ahead, chief minister Hemant Soren is expected to release the human-animal conflict action plan in early August. This plan, developed with contributions from the WWF and the Wildlife Institute of India, aims to address and mitigate conflicts between humans and wildlife. Natesh also touched upon the ongoing discussions regarding a third railway track through the PTR, describing it as a "well-coordinated effort." Security concerns related to military camps within the reserve were acknowledged, though details were not elaborated.
