Google appoints new Chief AI Architect
Kavukcuoglu will continue serving as Google DeepMind's CTO, reporting to its CEO Demis Hassabis, Pichai said in the memo.
'In this expanded role, Koray will accelerate how we bring our world-leading models into our products, with the goal of more seamless integration, faster iteration, and greater efficiency', Pichai said.
Alphabet, the parent company of Google, faces market pressure to demonstrate financial returns on its AI-related capital expenditures, which are expected to hit $75 billion this year, while maintaining its bottom line against the threat of competing AI offerings, as well as antitrust enforcement.
Google said it would put artificial intelligence into the hands of more web surfers and teased a $249.99-a-month subscription for its AI power users at its annual I/O conference in May, along with a flurry of demos that included new smart glasses.
Pichai said in a recent memo that Alphabet was 'entering a new phase of the AI platform shift.' He told reporters that the rise of generative AI was not at the full expense of online search.

EV startup Faraday Future plans multibillion-dollar crypto strategy
Electric vehicle startup Faraday Future said it plans to launch several crypto-focused initiatives, including creating a crypto treasury and offering tokenized vehicle sales. Nasdaq-listed Faraday Future said on Sunday that it planned to create a 'C10 (Crypto 10) Treasury' product and initially buy $30 million worth of crypto, which it hoped 'could reach tens of billions in size.' 'The next decade could be a super long bull cycle for the crypto market,' said Ian Calderon, Faraday Future co-creation officer and founding board member of the California Blockchain Working Group. Faraday Future is the latest publicly listed company planning to buy crypto, a trend that has seen billions of dollars in funding and helped boost share prices as Wall Street looks to gain crypto exposure. Faraday launches crypto basket product Faraday Future said it's also launching a 'C10 Index,' a market-cap-weighted basket fund that tracks the top 10 crypto assets, excluding stablecoins, and added that it's also exploring the creation of an exchange-traded fund (ETF). Alongside the index and ETF plans, the company will launch a strategy to buy the top 10 cryptocurrencies and said it would purchase $500 million to $1 billion in crypto, starting with its initial $30 million tranche. The company said the treasury is designed to provide sustainable returns with staking yields, 'which can fund product innovation, potential stock buybacks, and further asset growth.' The company also plans to launch an 'EAI Vehicle Chain' for tokenized vehicle sales and crypto-based deposits. EAI stands for Embodied AI and refers to AI physically integrated into real-world objects, such as cars. California State Treasurer Fiona Ma endorsed the move, stating the plan 'has the potential to boost our economy, create high-quality jobs, attract top-tier investment, and advance sustainable development worldwide.' Faraday Future's rocky history The pivot to crypto comes at a transitional period for the firm, whose share price has suffered as the company halted work on a $1 billion electric vehicle factory in Nevada in 2016, which caused delays in production of its flagship vehicle, the FF91. The EV startup has reportedly only delivered 16 vehicles as of January and has recently pivoted to rebadging Chinese-made electric vans In July, Faraday Future disclosed that the US Securities and Exchange Commission sent a Wells notice, a threat of enforcement action, to its founder, Jia Yueting, and president, Jerry Wang, after a three-year fraud investigation that focused on allegedly false statements made during the company's 2021 SPAC merger. Company shares slide Shares in Faraday Future (FFAI) ended trading on Friday down 7.6% at $2.77. However, the shares have performed well so far this year, gaining 75% over the past six months to bring its year-to-date gains to 14% according to Google Finance. Source:

Solana hits 100K TPS milestone with stress test transaction spike
Solana throughput briefly spiked to six figures under a high load of program call transactions over the weekend, according to a developer. Mert Mumtaz, the co-founder of the Solana developer tooling firm Helius, said on Sunday that Solana became the 'first major blockchain' to record 100,000 transactions per second (TPS) on its mainnet. He shared that a Solana block late on Sunday saw 43,016 successful transactions and 50 failed ones, claiming the total TPS reached 107,540. However, most transactions were not token exchanges or trades but no-operation or 'noop' program calls, an instruction that doesn't perform meaningful computation or state changes. Solana transactions must include at least one instruction, so for transactions that don't need to perform any meaningful operations, the noop program provides a way to satisfy this requirement. These lightweight program calls stress-test network capacity but don't directly reflect everyday payment or complex application use. Mumtaz said that even though most of the transactions were program calls, developers could still 'deduce that you can also theoretically do about 80-100k tps in transfers, oracle updates, and similar [operations].' Solana's real TPS much lower Solana's actual throughput is much lower than these anomalous spikes caused by no-action program calls. Total TPS is currently around 3,700 according to Solscan, but even that figure is spurious because around two-thirds of the transactions are voting transactions. Solana validators must regularly submit vote transactions to participate in consensus, and hundreds of them voting multiple times per slot inflates the network's true TPS figures. Real throughput on Solana is around 1,050 transactions per second, according to Solscan and around 1,004 TPS, according to Chainspect. Memecoins still dominate Solana derives the majority of its activity from memecoins. The most popular platform on the network, with a 62% share of the total value locked, is the memecoin minting and trading platform according to Solscan. The value of Solana's decentralized finance apps has climbed over the past few months, reaching $10.7 billion, close it its January all-time high, according to DefiLlama. Solana, the blockchain's token, dipped over the weekend as crypto markets cooled, falling back to $187 from last week's high of $208. The token remains down 36% from its January all-time high of $293, according to CoinGecko. Source:
