Who was Sana Yousaf, Pakistani teen TikTok star murdered in broad daylight in Islamabad
Sana Yousaf
was more than just a TikTok sensation. At just 17 years old, the young Pakistani influencer had become a vibrant force for change, using her platform to advocate for women's education, preserve the cultural heritage of Chitral, and promote progressive thinking within traditionally conservative regions. With nearly half a million followers across TikTok and Instagram, Sana's short-form videos showcasing traditional dresses, folk songs, and messages of empowerment had touched a nerve among Pakistan's youth.
Tragically, her life was cut short when she was fatally shot inside her home in Islamabad's Sector G-13. Authorities suspect an honour killing, a deeply entrenched cultural practice that continues to plague parts of Pakistan, particularly when women choose paths deemed 'inappropriate' or 'dishonourable' by their families or communities. As of now, no arrests have been made, but the incident has sparked renewed debate over women's safety, the power of digital voices, and the deadly consequences of honour-based violence.

Sana hailed from Upper Chitral in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a region known for its mountains, distinct cultural identity, and conservative social norms. She was the daughter of a local social activist and had carved out a space for herself online as a voice for underrepresented rural women. Her content often blended traditional Chitrali culture with contemporary messages, combining folk music, dance, and local dress with outspoken support for girls' education and women's agency.

Sana Yousaf shot dead at home: Police probe honour killing angle
According to multiple media reports, Sana Yousaf was shot at point-blank range by a male relative who visited her home on June 1, 2025. The suspect reportedly engaged her in brief conversation before entering the home, where he fired multiple rounds. She died on the spot, and the assailant fled the scene. Her body was transported to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for autopsy.
Police are actively investigating the murder, with honour killing being one of the leading lines of inquiry. Although no arrests have been made, a manhunt is underway, and authorities are considering familial motives and potential social backlash from her online presence as possible triggers.
Social media backlash and support
Following the news of her murder, social media erupted in outrage and grief. The hashtags #JusticeForSanaYousaf and #StopHonourKillings trended on Pakistani Twitter (X), with activists, journalists, and ordinary users demanding accountability.
Many pointed out the double standards in Pakistani society, where men are often allowed freedom to speak, act, and live as they wish, while women are subjected to violence for expressing their identity. Others emphasized the chilling effect this murder may have on other young girls who look up to influencers like Sana as role models.
A leading women's rights organization, Aurat March Pakistan, released a statement condemning the killing and calling for immediate legal action. 'The murder of Sana Yousaf is not just a personal tragedy—it is a reflection of a systemic failure to protect women who dare to live with autonomy and pride,' the statement read.

Offence of sexually assaulting a minor can be alleged even against a woman, rules Karnataka High Court

Declaring that the offence of penetrative sexual assault can be alleged even against a woman under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, as this law is gender-neutral, the High Court of Karnataka on Monday refused to quash a criminal case against a 52-year-old woman, who allegedly compelled a 13-year-old boy for sex with her at her residence here during 2020. The two instances of sexual assaults had allegedly taken place between May and June, 2020, when the accused woman Archana, an artist aged around 48 and the boy who was around 13 years and 10 months old then. The accused, who was the boy's neighbour, had come in contact with him through his mother, who initially sent him to the house of the accused to help her post her paintings on her Instagram account following the request made by the accused. To a therapist The boy, who was psychologically distressed, had immediately not disclosed the alleged acts to his parents, who later decided to settle down in Dubai and shifted there in August, 2020, along with him and his younger sister. He disclosed the alleged acts only in 2024 and narrated details to a therapist in Dubai, and then the complaint was lodged with the HAL police station by the boy's mother in June, 2024. The boy was aged around 17 when his statements were recorded by the magistrate and the child protection officer. It was alleged that accused woman had convinced the boy not to disclose the acts with anyone, stating that both of them would be in trouble. The accused woman's husband and daughter are said to be living abroad. Against woman also Rejecting the argument on behalf of the accused that offence of aggravated sexual assaults or rape cannot be invoked against a woman, the court pointed out that Sections 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act makes it clear that anyone who 'compels a minor child to do penetrative or other sexual acts with him or other persons', is an offender. Though the pronoun 'he' and its derivatives were not defined under the POCSO Act, which only states that a child is any person below the age of 18, Justice M. Nagaprasanna, relying on the definitions in the Indian Penal Code (IPC), held that the pronoun 'he' and its derivatives in POCSO will also have to be used, 'of any person, whether male or female.' 'The language of the provision clearly indicates inclusivity,' the court observed. It was argued on behalf of the accused that the victim boy could not have had an erection if he was in shock when the accused had allegedly made sexual advances. However, the court said, quoting a study, 'State of shock is a psychological concept. Erection is purely a physiological or a biological concept. Psychological concepts would not sometimes control physiological and biological actions.' No stereotypes To the submission that in an intercourse the woman is only a passive participant and a man is an active participant, the court pointed out that 'this thought itself is archaic'. It said that the jurisprudence of the present times 'does not allow stereotypes to cloud legal scrutiny'. The delay of four years in registering the complaint and non-conduct of potency test of the boy, cannot become the reason for quashing the case, owing to the alleged offence and the age of the victim boy, the court said.

US Singer Admits To Cheating On His Wife While On Tour: "I Broke Her Heart"

Michael Franti, the lead singer of Spearhead, recently revealed a personal struggle with infidelity in an Instagram message to his over 262,000 followers. The 59-year-old singer confessed to having an affair seven years ago while on tour with another artist, which his wife discovered, leading to significant turmoil in their family life. In the post, Mr Franti expressed deep remorse for breaking his marital vows and betraying his wife's trust, acknowledging the immense emotional distress he caused. "7 years ago, I had a romantic relationship outside my marriage. It was with an artist who was touring with me. I broke my wedding vows, I broke my wife's trust, I broke her heart, and for that am deeply sorry for the pain my actions have caused her," he wrote. "Over the course of the tour, we spent a lot of time together and soon began to feel strong emotions for one another. Eventually, I made the most regrettable mistake of allowing the relationship to become romantic. My wife found out about it, and to save my marriage, we ended the relationship. The artist stayed on tour with us, and we maintained a professional relationship. After the tour ended, she continued to perform at several shows," the singer-musician added. Singer-songwriter Victoria Canal recently revealed that she had a year-long abusive relationship with an older, "very powerful" man in the music industry. She shared the allegations in an Instagram post last Monday. Without naming the individual, Ms Canal claimed she was "groomed and manipulated." View this post on Instagram A post shared by vc (@victoriacanal) In his statement, Mr Franti acknowledged the artist's recent posts about their relationship but dismissed the abuse. He wrote, "I'm aware of the recent posts this artist made about our relationship, and while I support her need to express herself publicly, the relationship was completely consensual, based on mutual feelings and attraction. I vehemently dispute any version of the story that says otherwise. I will, however, take full accountability for not better recognising the power imbalance as she was younger than me, and was the headliner on tour." As a result of the allegations, the Soulshine at Sea music cruise, scheduled for November 4-8, 2025, was cancelled. Several artists, including Dispatch, Maggie Rose, Hirie, and Liz Vice, withdrew from the event, prompting festival promoter Sixthman to announce the cancellation. She is also a philanthropist, founding 'Do It For Love', a non-profit wish-granting organisation based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Additionally, she serves as CEO of Soulshine Bali, a sound and wellness resort in Indonesia that she co-owns with Mr Franti. The couple tied the knot in 2015 and has two children together, born in 2018 and May 2025.

Shubhanshu Shukla Shows Pics Of Earth From Space During Meet With PM Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla this evening, a day after the astronaut returned to India after his historic visit to the International Space Station (ISS). PM Modi hosted Mr Shukla at the Prime Minister's residence in Delhi. PM Modi was seen welcoming Mr Shukla, who was wearing an ISRO astronaut's jacket, with a hug. He gifted the Axiom-4 mission patch to PM Modi and showed him pictures of the Earth taken from the International Space Station. He is the first Indian astronaut to travel to the International Space Station (ISS). "India is proud of his feat," posted PM Modi on X after the meeting. Had a great interaction with Shubhanshu Shukla. We discussed a wide range of subjects including his experiences in space, progress in science & technology as well as India's ambitious Gaganyaan mission. India is proud of his feat. @gagan_shux — Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) August 18, 2025 Mr Shukla was part of the Axiom-4 private space mission, which lifted off from Florida on June 25 and docked at the ISS on June 26. He returned to Earth on July 15. During the 18-day mission, Mr Shukla, along with astronauts Peggy Whitson (US), Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski (Poland), and Tibor Kapu (Hungary), conducted more than 60 experiments and 20 outreach sessions aboard the ISS. On Saturday, he posted on Instagram a photo of himself sitting on a plane. "As I sit on the plane to come back to India, I have a mix of emotions running through my heart. I feel sad leaving a fantastic group of people behind who were my friends and family for the past one year during this mission. I am also excited about meeting all my friends, family and everyone in the country for the first time post mission. I guess this is what life is -- everything all at once," read his post. "Having received incredible love and support from everyone during and after the mission, I can't wait to come back to India to share my experiences with all of you. Goodbyes are hard, but we need to keep moving in life. As my commander Peggy Whitson fondly says, 'the only constant in spaceflight is change'. I believe that applies to life as well," he said. Recalling the song from the Bollywood movie ' Swades ' that was on his playlist just before he embarked on the Axiom-4 mission from the US, Mr Shukla said, "I guess at the end of the day -' Yun hi chala chal rahi - jeevan gaadi hai samay pahiya '".
