AAP to contest Bihar assembly polls: Sanjay Singh
Singh was asked about speculations that AAP, which is a force to reckon with in Delhi and Punjab, besides having made its presence felt in Gujarat, was planning to contest the Bihar assembly elections.
The Rajya Sabha MP, who is the party's in-charge for Bihar, spoke to reporters in the state capital where he took part in an AAP dharna against the NDA government.
Patna, Jun 17 (PTI) Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh on Tuesday announced that his party will be throwing its hat in the ring for the Bihar assembly polls, which are due later this year.
Replying in the affirmative, he said, 'We will be contesting the polls in Bihar. Details like which seats to fight will be decided by the central leadership in due course.' 'In Delhi, the BJP government is treating migrants from Bihar and Purvanchal like citizens of an enemy country. They are being rendered homeless as slums are being demolished with a vengeance. We call upon the people of Bihar to vote the BJP out of power in the state,' Singh said.
Incidentally, the AAP, headed by Arvind Kejriwal, after enjoying two consecutive terms in power in the government in the national capital, suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the BJP in the Delhi assembly polls held earlier this year.
The Rajya Sabha MP alleged, 'The BJP used to entice Biharis and Purvanchalis living in Delhi, while we were in power, with promises of pucca houses in place of jhuggis (slums). They bared their fangs in the thick of polls when migrant brethren were labelled as Bangladeshis.' 'I had strongly raised a protest in Parliament. I have come here with the message that betrayal in Delhi cannot go hand in hand with goodwill in Bihar (Dilli mein gaddari aur Bihar mein yaari nahin chalegi),' Singh added.
He also urged Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who heads the JD(U), and BJP leaders in Bihar to raise their voice against the alleged mistreatment of migrants in Delhi.
It remains to be seen how the entry of AAP affects the poll scenario in Bihar which is likely to witness a straight contest between the NDA and the Mahagathbandhan, the state version of the INDIA bloc of which the Aam Aadmi Party is also a part.
Besides AAP, Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party will also contest the polls as it threatens to queer the pitch for both NDA and the Mahagathbandhan. PTI NAC ACD

Congress questions PM's silence on U.S. outreach to Pakistan
The Congress on Tuesday (June 17, 2025) questioned the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on the U.S. reaching out to Pakistan while referring to Pakistani Army chief Asim Munir's visit to the country. In a post on X, Congress general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh said, "So now it can no longer be denied by the drumbeaters of the PM and the BJP's troll army. The man whose incendiary, inflammatory, and provocative remarks were directly linked to the Pahalgam terror attacks is now officially in Washington D.C." "The question we had asked earlier needs to be repeated: What is America up to by hosting Asim Munir in this manner? Why are the Prime Minister and the External Affairs Minister silent on this outrageous American outreach to Pakistan?" he said. The Congress leader also took a swipe at Mr. Modi after U.S. President Donald Trump left the G-7 Summit in Canada a day earlier, saying it is a "setback for self-styled Vishwaguru's huglomacy". "President Trump has left the G-7 Summit a day before the G-7 outreach with eight other countries that includes India begins. A setback for self-styled Vishwaguru's Huglomacy," Mr. Ramesh said in another post. The Congress has been taking swipes at the Prime Minister for giving hugs to foreign heads of States during his meetings with them at international or bilateral engagements, using the term "huglomacy" for it. In a post on X, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate said, 'Trump has returned to America from G-7 meeting. Trump did not stay for outreach meeting to which Modi is invited. Trump talked about expanding the G-7 to include Russia and China. Not India.' 'Did the devotees perform yagya to make him the President? This is Modi's 'my friend'?' she wondered. Mr. Trump abruptly left the G-7 Summit on Monday (June 16, 2025), departing a day early as the conflict between Israel and Iran intensified and the U.S. President declared that Tehran should be evacuated 'immediately'. World leaders have gathered in Canada with the specific goal of helping to defuse a series of global pressure points, only to be disrupted by a showdown over Iran's nuclear programme that could escalate in dangerous and uncontrollable ways. Israel launched an aerial bombardment campaign against Iran four days ago.

PWD minister orders probe into work order delay for new Kund Mala bridge after predecessor demands inquiry
Pune: Maharashtra's minister for public works department (PWD) Shivendraraje Bhosale on Tuesday said that govt has initiated an inquiry into the delay in issuing a work order for the new bridge across the Indrayani River in Kund Mala after his predecessor Ravindra Chavan, who is now the state BJP working president, demanded a probe. Bhosale told TOI, "We have called for all records and files related to the new bridge proposal for scrutiny." Chavan, who sanctioned Rs8 crore last July for the project, said that a thorough inquiry was needed to find out why there was a delay in issuing the work order. "If people died due to delays on our part, it is unacceptable," he added. Govt issued the work order on June 10, this year, after 11 months. The old footbridge collapsed on Sunday, killing four people and injuring 54 others. The former PWD minister told reporters in Mumbai, "The tendering process for the bridge was completed before the assembly election last year when I was the PWD minister and provisions were made in the supplementary budget. PWD also issued directives to complete the project within one year after administrative approval was received on July 24 last year." He said that he spoke to Bhosale and PWD officials to know if there was a delay from govt side because the tendering process was already completed. The bridge, which was declared 'dangerous' and had boards put up for people to avoid using it, was overcrowded with tourists when it gave way, plunging several into the Indrayani River. Earlier, members of the opposition shared a letter issued by Chavan last year stating that govt sanctioned Rs 8 crore for the new bridge. Activist Vijay Kumbhar, who shared the details of the tendering process for the new bridge, said that the tender for the new bridge was floated on Oct 4, 2024, and it was opened within eight days on Oct 12. However, govt took over eight months to issue the work order, he added. "If work had commenced immediately, this tragedy could have been prevented. Even if we consider the absence of a functioning govt during the election period, the new govt was in place by Dec. There was no justification for a delay of six more months. All officials involved in the process must be held accountable for this delay," Kumbhar said.

Won't ally with those who've gone with BJP, says Pawar Sr
Pune: NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Tuesday ruled out any possibility of an alliance with BJP or parties aligned with it, including the Ajit Pawar-led NCP, for the upcoming civic elections. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Addressing party workers in Pimpri Chinchwad, Pawar said NCP (SP) would align only with those who follow the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Shahu Maharaj and Jyotiba Phule. Without mentioning nephew Ajit Pawar, he said the party would not go with those who joined BJP-led govt for power. "Somebody mentioned in the speech that we should take everyone along. I agree — if by 'everyone' you mean those who follow the ideology of Gandhi, Nehru, Yashwantrao Chavan and Phule-Shahu. But if you are saying that one should go with BJP for power, then that does not align with the ideology of Congress. You can maintain relations with anyone, but aligning with BJP is not acceptable. We will not promote politics of opportunism and take steps towards that direction," Pawar said. NCP chief Ajit Pawar refused to react to Pawar's statement. "Everyone has the freedom to express his/her opinion," he said. Pawar Senior said many people raised concerns about the future of the party after the split, but young leaders came forward and NCP (SP) remained strong. "Some people have left the party and some new faces are joining. Do not worry about those who have left. In my political career, I witnessed similar developments on multiple occasions," he said, referring to the situation he faced in 1980. Pawar was the chief minister of Maharashtra then. All elected MLAs from his party, except six, had defected, leading to the collapse of the govt. The NCP (SP) chief said his party would give opportunities to more new faces in the upcoming civic elections. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "We will contest all seats. If anyone wants to join us and accept the ideology we follow with an aim to work for development of Pimpri Chinchwad, the party leadership will take a decision on it," he said. Pawar said the development of Pimpri Chinchwad happened when the parties that follow Nehru and Gandhi's ideology were in office. He said people with the same ideology must come to office in the municipal corporation for further development of the city.
