AAP to contest Bihar assembly polls: Sanjay Singh

Patna, Jun 17 (PTI) Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh on Tuesday announced that his party will be throwing its hat in the ring for the Bihar assembly polls, which are due later this year.
Replying in the affirmative, he said, 'We will be contesting the polls in Bihar. Details like which seats to fight will be decided by the central leadership in due course.' 'In Delhi, the BJP government is treating migrants from Bihar and Purvanchal like citizens of an enemy country. They are being rendered homeless as slums are being demolished with a vengeance. We call upon the people of Bihar to vote the BJP out of power in the state,' Singh said.
Incidentally, the AAP, headed by Arvind Kejriwal, after enjoying two consecutive terms in power in the government in the national capital, suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the BJP in the Delhi assembly polls held earlier this year.
The Rajya Sabha MP alleged, 'The BJP used to entice Biharis and Purvanchalis living in Delhi, while we were in power, with promises of pucca houses in place of jhuggis (slums). They bared their fangs in the thick of polls when migrant brethren were labelled as Bangladeshis.' 'I had strongly raised a protest in Parliament. I have come here with the message that betrayal in Delhi cannot go hand in hand with goodwill in Bihar (Dilli mein gaddari aur Bihar mein yaari nahin chalegi),' Singh added.
He also urged Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who heads the JD(U), and BJP leaders in Bihar to raise their voice against the alleged mistreatment of migrants in Delhi.
It remains to be seen how the entry of AAP affects the poll scenario in Bihar which is likely to witness a straight contest between the NDA and the Mahagathbandhan, the state version of the INDIA bloc of which the Aam Aadmi Party is also a part.

PWD minister orders probe into work order delay for new Kund Mala bridge after predecessor demands inquiry
Pune: Maharashtra's minister for public works department (PWD) Shivendraraje Bhosale on Tuesday said that govt has initiated an inquiry into the delay in issuing a work order for the new bridge across the Indrayani River in Kund Mala after his predecessor Ravindra Chavan, who is now the state BJP working president, demanded a probe. Bhosale told TOI, "We have called for all records and files related to the new bridge proposal for scrutiny." Chavan, who sanctioned Rs8 crore last July for the project, said that a thorough inquiry was needed to find out why there was a delay in issuing the work order. "If people died due to delays on our part, it is unacceptable," he added. Govt issued the work order on June 10, this year, after 11 months. The old footbridge collapsed on Sunday, killing four people and injuring 54 others. The former PWD minister told reporters in Mumbai, "The tendering process for the bridge was completed before the assembly election last year when I was the PWD minister and provisions were made in the supplementary budget. PWD also issued directives to complete the project within one year after administrative approval was received on July 24 last year." He said that he spoke to Bhosale and PWD officials to know if there was a delay from govt side because the tendering process was already completed. The bridge, which was declared 'dangerous' and had boards put up for people to avoid using it, was overcrowded with tourists when it gave way, plunging several into the Indrayani River. Earlier, members of the opposition shared a letter issued by Chavan last year stating that govt sanctioned Rs 8 crore for the new bridge. Activist Vijay Kumbhar, who shared the details of the tendering process for the new bridge, said that the tender for the new bridge was floated on Oct 4, 2024, and it was opened within eight days on Oct 12. However, govt took over eight months to issue the work order, he added. "If work had commenced immediately, this tragedy could have been prevented. Even if we consider the absence of a functioning govt during the election period, the new govt was in place by Dec. There was no justification for a delay of six more months. All officials involved in the process must be held accountable for this delay," Kumbhar said.
