
Forest officials told to celebrate ‘Vana Mahotsavam' as grand festival
Hyderabad: Forests and endowments minister
on Wednesday directed forest officials to celebrate the upcoming 'Vana Mahotsavam 2025' with the spirit of a grand festival in Telangana.

During a review meeting, she pointed out that chief minister A Revanth Reddy was committed to making the plantation drive a success through wide public participation. Referring to the early arrival of monsoon this year, she directed officials to make use of this opportunity by beginning the plantation drive immediately.
The plantation drive will be conducted intensively during the peak monsoon in June, July, and August, and the target was to plant over 20 crore saplings.
Officials were told to ensure 100% achievement. Saplings will also be distributed to households to promote greenery at the doorstep.
She said that public demands for saplings must be addressed proactively, and the varieties should include flowering plants such as rose, hibiscus, oleander, and fruit-bearing plants such as guava, custard apple, amla, black plum, drumstick, tulsi, neem, tamarind, soapnut, toddy palm and palm.
109 petitions submitted during face-to-face programme
Earlier in the day, Surekha received as many as 109 petitions during the face-to-face programme at Gandhi Bhavan. The petitions mostly pertained to Indiramma houses and new ration cards. The minister said that all the petitions were forwarded to the respective departments for early redressal of grievances.

Court acquits Revanth in 2023 case over rude remarks against police
Hyderabad: Twenty months after the Begum Bazar police station filed a criminal case against chief minister A Revanth Reddy for allegedly making objectionable statements against the police, a local sessions judge at the Nampally court acquitted him on Thursday. Reddy did not appear in court at the time of the hearing, however. "The accused was found not guilty of offences punishable under sections 294B (singing, reciting or uttering obscene songs, ballads or words in or near a public place), 189 (threatening injury to a public servant) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. The accused was therefore acquitted under section 248(1) of the CrPC," said the Special Judicial First Class Magistrate (JFCM) for Excise Cases. The case was initially filed by Nirmal police following a complaint by Meer Virasat Ali, an armed reserve constable. The complaint alleged that, during a press conference held at Gandhi Bhavan, Revanth Reddy had made objectionable statements about the Mahabubnagar police and used offensive language against the state police. At the time, Revanth Reddy was the Telangana Pradesh Congress President. The trial began in March, and the verdict was announced on Thursday. Although the case was initially registered by the Nirmal police, it was transferred to the Begum Bazar police station due to jurisdictional issues. HC stays defamation case filed by BJP against CM Revanth Reddy
Hyderabad: The Telangana high court on Thursday stayed the criminal defamation case against chief minister A Revanth Reddy at the legislators special court. The case pertains to the alleged defamatory remarks made by the CM against BJP during the 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign. BJP had complained that the CM claimed BJP would abolish reservations for weaker sections if voted to power. Stating that these utterances were damaging the party's image, BJP leader Kasam Venkateswarlu filed the complaint before the magistrate court. A criminal case was lodged and the trial was on before the principal special judicial first class magistrate for excise cases which was designated as a special court for trying offences against legislators. Revanth had filed a plea urging the court to quash this 'politically motivated case'. Earlier, the high court exempted him from appearing before the court. On Thursday, when the case came up for hearing, it was brought to the notice of the court that the BJP leader had filed a counter urging the court not to quash the case. Public prosecutor Palle Nageswara Rao sought time to counter the argument of the BJP. Justice K Lakshman while staying the process before the trial court posted the case to June 23.
