Volkswagen confirms specs and engine for new Tayron SUV in South Africa
Unveiled in South Africa at the 2025 Volkswagen Indaba, the local arm of the German automaker announced the Tayron will launch in our market in the second half of the year. The company also confirmed which trim lines will be available with the Tiguan Allspace's replacement. Though, at the time, we could only place bets on which engine options will be on offer.
However, with the announcement that pre-orders for the Tayron are now open, the Wolfsburg brand has not only divulged more information surrounding the spec levels, but also confirmed what engine will power the local Tayron portfolio.
2025 Volkswagen Tayron SA lineup
The local Volkswagen Tayron lineup will comprise three derivatives: Tayron (base), which is exclusively available with a five-seater layout, Life, and R-Line – the latter two models featuring seven seats.
The entry-point to the range, base specification includes such items as 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and 18-inch Bologna alloy wheels. On top of these items, Life spec gains three-zone climate control, 10-colour ambient lighting, nine airbags, and illuminated VW emblems, front and rear. The R-Line features a model-specific front bumper, LED Plus headlamps, Varenna leather upholstery, heated and massaging front pews, 30-colour ambient lighting, and 19-inch Coventry alloy wheels.
2025 Volkswagen Tayron SA engine
A single engine option will be employed across the lineup: Volkswagen Group's 1.4 TSI unit, which also does duty in the Mk8.5 Golf and Tiguan lineups. The 1.4l, four-cylinder turbopetrol unit is coupled with a seven-speed dual-clutch (DSG) transmission and produces 110kW and 250N.m of torque – the latter available from a low 1 500r/min.

Noteworthy, the Stingray ships with the United States brand's Z51 performance package as standard – the latter adding to the American supercar's on-road and -track capabilities, and lifting the 6.2l naturally aspirated V8's peak power output to a healthy 369kW. Mounted midships, the LT2 engine channels power to the rear axle via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. According to the company, the Stingray completes the 0-100km/h sprint in just 3.5 seconds. 2025 Corvette Stingray price in SA Available through CVH Auto Group, which is headquartered in Bryanston, Gauteng, the Corvette Stingray is priced from R3.7m in South Africa. 2026 VW T-Roc leaked ahead of official reveal
The new Volkswagen T-Roc has been leaked ahead of its official reveal later this month, with screenshots from a since-deleted YouTube video showing the second generation's exterior and interior. Previewed in concept form at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, the series-production version of Volkswagen's first-generation T-Roc would make its global debut three years later, in 2017. Now, following an eight-year lifespan, which included a facelift in 2021, the second iteration will reportedly be revealed in August 2025. However, before the official unveiling, screenshots, taken from a YouTube video that's since been removed, of the 2026 T-Roc has surfaced online. Shared on Spanish online forum Cochespias, the leaked images show the next-generation model's exterior and interior. Starting with the former, the new T-Roc's exterior styling largely resembles that of the Tiguan, which CAR mag evaluated for a road test in the December 2024 issue. The upcoming model features a more prominent front facia. The front grille and bumper have been redesigned to lend the new model a more purposeful appearance. The new headlamps, which feature fresh daytime-running light signatures, are connected via a light strip. Those with a keen eye will notice the fore and aft VW emblems are illuminated – in white and red, respectively. The new tail lamps are also connected via a light strip, which spans the tailgate. It also looks like new wheel designs will be on offer. The interior of the new T-Roc resembles that of the Tiguan and Mk8.5 Golf. The cabin features such items as new digital instrumentation and a larger touchscreen infotainment system. The haptic buttons on the steering wheel has been replaced by physical items, though climate is still operated via touch sliders.
