Primetime 585 Shining Star: Mia Quagrello
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – It is time for our Primetime 585 Shining Star Spotlight where we introduce you to some student athletes who are brightening up our community. Today we're highlighting Mia Quagrello!
Mia is a junior and varsity lacrosse player at our Lady of Mercy.
She's been named independent player of the year for lacrosse, D&C All-Greater Rochester Super 16, and a member of the 2024 All-States Team.
Mia is committed to Arizona State University. She's also lined up to be captain of the Mercy golf team next year.
A big congratulations to Mia from all of us here at News 8 and thank you for brightening up our community.

Local Special Olympics torch run marks 39 years
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Special Olympics athletes know most events have a start and finish. A torch run Friday started at Cobbs Hill Park. 'I know it's a little rain, but we got through it,' Special Olympic athlete Jacob Babcock said. At the run, Babcock reconnected with some of the members of local law enforcement who ran with him during the pandemic. 'So me, Erin, John 'Pre,' and all them and Brett Sobrieraski and Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter, we all came together, it was such an amazing process,' Babcock said. He's talking about Rochester Police Detective Erin Rogers. She helps with the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. 'As soon as you see the athletes and see how excited they are to see you and how they're supportive of you, there's nothing better than that and you just want to support them back,' Rogers said. Cori Piels, also an athlete, will tell you that relationship means a lot. 'It's so nice to have the support of law enforcement. If we didn't have them, we wouldn't be doing this,' Piels said. The two groups have been doing the torch run together for 39 years. The event gives Chris Teich and everyone else a chance to celebrate all things Special Olympics. 'It embodies family, friendship, leadership and so much more,' athlete Chris Teich said. This year's course took them through Park Ave and all the way to Parcel 5 where they stopped running, making it look like this event is one of those that has a finish, but because of the bond between all of them, there's no end in sight. Friday's torch run is part of a series happening across the state. That series will end in Ithaca where the Special Olympics summer games will later in June. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Blue Angels answer questions at MTSU
RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — It was a packed house at Middle Tennessee State University Friday morning as two members of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Squadron answered questions from the public. Oliver Moreira — age 9 — spent roughly two months preparing for the event and made a jet suit with his mom. He said the Blue Angels are one of the reasons he hopes to have a career in the skies one day. 📧 Have breaking news come to you: → 'I like them because they do a lot of tricks and tricks that make me encouraged,' Moreira said, explaining his suit. 'I can transform with it and it's really awesome and I get to impress a lot of people, and I hope one day I become a commercial pilot.' Middle Tennessee native Mychael Kisling returned to his alma mater for the event, which was just down the road from where he attended high school. 'It's great. I love being here — coming back to Murfreesboro brings back a lot of memories, especially running track in high school and then coming here to college as well,' Kisling said, who added that he now serves as an aviation electronics technician. 'It was fun here at MTSU.' Kisling, along with U.S. Marine Corps Major and C-130J Demonstration Pilot Josh Horman, answered dozens of questions from the audience. 'We're normally flying 250 knots, which is about 300-320 miles per hour when we're doing the break passes,' Horman said when asked how fast a 'Fat Albert' plane could fly. 📧 Have breaking news come to you: → 'Because it's very difficult and we want to showcase the precision of the pilots,' Horman said when another audience member asked about the Blue Angels' flight formations. As the Blue Angels are expected to continue wowing people at the Great Tennessee Air Show this weekend, Moreira said that he did not want to wrap up Friday's event without sharing his advice to others. 'I have some advice for everybody that's watching,' Moreira said. 'Never give up and you can do it if you have it in your mind.' Perhaps that's a sentiment the Blue Angels would also agree with. Ticker: ESPN's New York Shows Are on the Move
Top of the Ticker: ESPN is joining Good Morning America and ABC News' other programming at Disney's 7 Hudson Square HQ in Manhattan. The Disney-owned sports network is moving its New York-based shows from their perch at Seaport Studios, where they've been since 2018. Get Up will be the first show to air out of the new space on June 9, followed by First Take on June 23, alongside ESPN Radio's signature morning show UnSportsmanLike. New Promo: Meanwhile, GMA has debuted a new promo campaign that marks the start of its 50th anniversary celebrations. Titled 'Coming Home,' the promo features co-anchors Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, and Michael Strahan-as well as the show's extended family-visiting their respective hometowns. The promo could also be viewed as an indirect nod to the show's move from Times Square to its new home at 7 Hudson Square sometime this summer. Pride Celebrations: Speaking of ABC News, the network has announced programming initiatives to celebrate Pride Month. Airing across all dayparts and properties, coverage will feature reporting, interviews, and features highlighting people, stories, and issues important to the LGBTQ+ community. C-Span: C-SPAN debuted a refreshed on-air graphics look across its networks this week. 'Our new look was designed in-house with internal feedback as well as a review of comments from viewers over the years,' executive producer Paul Brown said in a statement provided to TVNewser. 'One of our primary goals was to enhance brand consistency by creating a unified look that eventually will run across all our platforms.' Brown also noted that C-SPAN's last major graphics occurred back in 2018. Increased tech coverage: Bloomberg is launching two new monthly tech programs, broadening its global coverage with region-specific offerings. Bloomberg Tech: Europe, anchored by Tom Mackenzie, debuts on June 13 at 1:30 a.m. ET; and Bloomberg Tech: Asia, co-anchored by Shery Ahn and Annabelle Droulers, premieres on June 27 at 8:30 p.m. ET. These programs complement the existing Bloomberg Tech, which airs at 11 a.m. ET, and recently unveiled a refreshed format with new branding and graphics.
