'This Auction Could Be In His Name': Aakash Chopra Shares Insights On Ex-RCB Star
Aakash Chopra has predicted that Cameron Green might be the priciest player in IPL 2026 mini auction, citing his strong batting form.
Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has said that star Australia all-rounder Cameron Green could be the most expensive player in the IPL 2026 mini auction, which is expected to be held later this year or early next year. He pointed out that Green has been among the runs since his return from injury and may begin bowling soon.
Green smashed 35 runs off just 13 balls in Australia's 17-run victory over South Africa in the first T20I in Darwin on Sunday, August 10.
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Chopra reckoned that Green may be the most prized acquisition at the IPL 2026 mini auction.
'Cameron Green, I feel he could be the most expensive player in the auction. Since he has returned from injury, his batting form is already incredible. He isn't yet ready to bowl, but will start bowling at some stage," Chopra said.
'He is batting in the top order at the moment because he isn't bowling. If he starts bowling and considering the batting ability he has, he could break the bank. People will spend a lot of money on him," Chopra said.
'That's what I feel. So this auction could be in Cameron Green's name," the former India cricketer added.
Green, who opted out of IPL 2025 because of an injury, scored 255 runs at a strike rate of 143.25 in 12 matches for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2024.
'The Mumbai Indians figure out everyone before time. I am going to take four names, who they had, but they let them go. So could the overseas player management have been better?" Chopra questioned.
'They (MI) had Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, Tim David and Green and all in one year. These four players were together with them in the squad and now not even one is there," Chopra added.
'The Mumbai Indians have a very rich legacy of spotting talent, but they would want to change one thing. Just as they are with Indian talent, maybe they will have to exercise a bit more patience with their overseas recruits, especially the greenhorns they catch," Chopra said.

Brett Lee on Ravindra Jadeja's sword celebration: ‘The only way I see him getting injured is doing a rotator cuff'
Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, after scoring his half-century, does his trademark celebration. While it is quite spectacular to the eye, former Australian cricketer Brett Lee warned about the left-arm spinner injuring his rotator cuff muscle. 'The only way I see him getting injured is doing a rotator cuff, with the way he does the sword celebration. I love it. Look after your body, don't celebrate too hard,' said Lee on his YouTube channel. 'You know, another sort of 15 Tests, it's about two years. I think he'll go past the 100 mark. I think he's one of the best all-rounders that we've seen. 36 years of age, he's still got a good couple of years left in him.' Lee showered praise on Jadeja. 'The term we like to use, factory-made cricketer. He has everything that a cricketer needs, and I think he ticks every single box. He does the basics right, he's got a simple technique, no fuss. He runs in and bowls accurately, he bowls the correct line and length when needed, and gets through his overs quickly.' Former India batter Ajay Jadeja has said that his namesake was arguably even more consistent than captain Shubman Gill, who himself broke a plethora of records by smashing a whopping 754 runs in the series. The 36-year-old's big moments started with the thrilling third Test at Lord's, according Ajay Jadeja, where Ravindra scored 72 in the first innings and an unbeaten 61 in the second. The latter of those two innings is especially noteworthy as he shepherded the Indian tail for just over 50 overs and nearly took India to an improbable victory. 'He has been more consistent than even Shubman Gill. He had four innings that didn't end, because the batting ended from the other end. In the entire series, there were only two innings where he got out early,' said Ajay Jadeja. 'If we try to remember his moments, it started with Lord's, where you couldn't win for sure, but he and (Mohammed) Siraj fought there. A change was seen there. The fortitude started from there. Then he kept standing in the next match and drew the match. Then he scored runs in this match (last Test) as well,' he observed.

My intent in video was to talk about Brevis' batting, not about his IPL signing amount: Ashwin
Senior spinner R Ashwin has clarified his statement about the signing of Dewald Brevis by Chennai Super Kings, asserting that his focal point was the South African's batting performance and not the price at which he was acquired midway through IPL 2025. A controversy erupted when Ashwin, currently in the CSK roster, hinted in his YouTube channel that the five-time IPL champions were willing to pay 'extra' to avail Brevis' services. His comments forced the IPL franchise to issue a clarification. 'My intent in the old video was to talk about Brevis' batting, not about his IPL signing amount. We have to understand that every player who plays in the IPL has a contract with the franchise and the tournament. The franchise and the IPL have a binding contract, and if there is anything wrong, it won't be ratified,' said Ashwin in his YouTube channel. To underline his point, Ashwin termed Brevis a 'special talent.': 'Injury replacements are very common in the IPL. It is about how you go about the rule flexibility. That is the point. If you are a CSK and South Africa fan, then it is time to be extremely excited about Brevis. He is a special talent,' he added. ALSO READ: Bumrah available for Asia Cup 2025 selection - reports CSK issued a clarification on Saturday after Ashwin's statement about that particular signing made headlines. The franchise said the signing process of the South African batter was in 'complete compliance with the rules and regulations' of the league. 'Chennai Super Kings categorically clarifies that all actions taken by the franchise during the signing process of Dewald Brevis as a Replacement Player during TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 were in complete compliance with the rules and regulations of IPL,' the CSK said in a statement. 'In April, 2025, Dewald Brevis was signed for a league fee of INR 2.2 Cr as a replacement player for the injured Gurjapneet Singh, who was picked up at the IPL 2025 Player Auction held at Abadi AI Johar Arena, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for a price of INR 2.2 Cr,' the statement further added. Ashwin then went on to describe the need to issue a clarification on his earlier statement. 'In today's time, there is a need to clarify the right things as well. There is no mistake by anyone; clarification on this matter has arisen from the fact that a lot of people have doubts. 'The fact is that no mistake has been made by the franchise, the player, and the governing body,' Ashwin noted. The former India spinner again stressed his point about the signing of Brevis, terming it a 'mind-boggling' feat by the CSK. 'The way Brevis is batting, CSK has struck gold. The decision to bring him on board is very good. The franchise has struck gold during the purple patch of Dewald Brevis. 'He has been batting really well; he hits big sixes. Power-striker, monstrous hitter against spin,' he said.

Shardul Thakur's Big Remark On Gambhir After IND-ENG Tests: 'He Is An Achiever...'
Last Updated: Shardul Thakur has lauded Gautam Gambhir's energy and motivation, despite criticism after India's Test losses, believing the team is moving in the right direction. Star India all-rounder Shardul Thakur has said that Gautam Gambhir is seen as a player always willing to fight for the team and he is an achiever who brings all those experiences and motivations into the side, lauding the Indian head coach for his attitude and style. Thakur was questioned about the criticism directed at Gambhir after India's Test losses, first in last year's home series against New Zealand and later during the tour of Australia. Thakur said that criticism will always come and go, but Gambhir has brought energy and motivation into the side and the team is moving in the right direction. 'Yes, we have always seen him as a player who is willing to fight for the team and even during the huddles, he transferred that energy into us, the one that he brought into the field during his playing days," Thakur said while speaking to RevSportz. 'He (Gambhir) is an achiever who has won trophies for the nation and the state. And he brings all those experiences and motivations into the team. Criticism will come and go, but as a team, winning matters and I believe we are heading in the right direction when it comes to that," Thakur added. The star England allrounder endured a below-par tour of England, featuring in two games where he managed just 46 runs and picked up two wickets across three innings. Thakur noted that the team was short on experience after the retirements of stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, but lauded Gambhir for instilling confidence in the side. 'When your backs are against the wall, there is no going back and that was the situation, having two of the most senior pro players [Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma] retiring from the game and not having Mohammed Shami in the squad," Thakur said. 'The bit of experience this team had was in the form of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. The batting unit was fairly inexperienced, except for KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant," Thakur added. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
