Tragic end: Missing mother and toddler daughter found beheaded

Two suspects, aged 43 and 32, have been arrested by the police in Limpopo for the brutal murder of a mother aged 34 and her two-year-old daughter.
The woman and her daughter went missing on 19 May, sparking an extensive investigation by the police at Thohoyandou, Vhembe District, joined by the provincial team of investigators dealing with missing persons' cases.
'On Wednesday, a task team comprising SAPS Thohoyandou intervention team, Thohoyandou detectives, and provincial missing persons team followed a credible lead which led to the discovery of the body of the mother and her daughter,' said Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, provincial police spokesperson.
'As a result of this gruesome discovery, two suspects were linked to the incident, and were immediately arrested. During the process, it was also discovered that the bodies were without heads.'
Police also established that one of the suspects is alleged to be the boyfriend of the deceased.
'The motive behind this heinous act of crime is still under investigation,' said Ledwaba.

The two arrested suspects, Tshilidzi Phalandwa, 43, and Balangani Sedzani Tshivhombedze, 32, appeared before the Vuwani Magistrate's Court on Friday.
The duo was remanded in custody, and the matter was postponed to Tuesday for further investigations.
Meanwhile, provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the arrests, and she saluted the investigating teams 'for their remarkable skill' which resulted in the tracking down of the alleged killers.

This pushes JMPD officers to aggressively pursue fines instead of focusing on their duties, such as bylaw enforcement, traffic management, and crime prevention.' He added that these concerning claims align with the growing trend of JMPD conducting excessive and random roadblocks at busy intersections, not for public safety, but to boost fine collection. 'Many of these operations are non-compliant with the National Road Traffic Act and SAPS Standing Orders. By reclassifying illegal roadblocks as 'roadside checks', JMPD evades crucial legal requirements, including proper authorisation by a senior officer, clear signage, adequate warning to motorists, among others,' Sun added. Responding to the allegations, JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla dismissed the DA's claims as false, stating: 'The JMPD would like to emphasise that our enforcement operations are conducted with the primary goal of maintaining safety and order on the city's roads.' However, he firmly denied the existence of any quota system, stating: 'There is no quota that officers are expected to meet.' Fihla reiterated that the department's main priority is promoting compliance with traffic regulations to enhance road safety, not to meet any set number of fines. 'The performance of our officers is measured by their overall effectiveness in creating a safer environment for the community, and one of the ways is to issue citations, not by a predetermined target for fines. The integrity of our operations is paramount, and all actions are taken in strict accordance with the law,' he added. Political analyst Kenneth Mokgatlhe expressed concern over the alleged political interference, saying if the claims are accurate, it represents 'political interference of the highest degree.' Nearly 500 illegal miners due to appear in Barberton court
JOHANNESBURG - Almost 500 illegal miners brought to the surface from a mine in Barberton in Mpumalanga last Friday are set to appear at the Barberton Magistrate's Court on Monday. The group faces charges of contravening the Immigration Act and trespassing, while others are facing charges of possession of gold-bearing material. Their arrest follows an intense operation by law enforcement and mine security as part of Operation Vala Umgodi in the province. The police initially estimated that 1,000 miners had been arrested but later revised that number down by half. Mpumalanga police spokesperson. Ppho Nonyane-Mpe: "Members of the SAPS, including the team that is working there in collaboration with home affairs officials, are currently busy with the purifying the number in terms of how many will be charged for what type of offence." Nonyane-Mpe said that an operation was underway to retrieve zama zamas that remained underground. "The plans in terms of the others that went deep, our members from Vala Umgodi, in collaboration with the mine security and also the Department of Minerals and Energy, will regroup and also esure that we communicate whatever action will be taken following this development."
