John Franklin-Myers hints he wants a new contract from Broncos
John Franklin-Myers has made it no secret that he wants a contract extension from the Denver Broncos sooner rather than later.
When DNVR's Zac Stevens tweeted a reminder to not forget about a potential upcoming extension for pass rusher Nik Bonitto, Franklin-Myers replied, "Or JFM."
Franklin-Myers also retweeted this message from JJ Watt: "Reward your players earlier and reap the benefits in the long run. Dragging it out not only ends up costing more, it creates unnecessary tension. The longer you wait, the higher the price."
A few days later, Joey Richards of the "Let's Talk Broncos" podcast tweeted that Broncos general manager George Paton has rewarded deserving players with extensions during his tenure in Denver. JFM replied: "….."
Franklin-Myers also caused a stir in Broncos Country when he tweeted: "Still counted out.."
Franklin-Myers still has one year and $8 million left on his current contract, but it's clear that he wants an extension to give him more security -- and a raise. He retweeted this fan calling for Denver to rework his contract:
Now that the initial wave of free agency has wrapped up, the Broncos might soon begin working on in-house extensions. In addition to JFM, other players in line for extensions include Bonitto, defensive lineman Zach Allen and wide receiver Courtland Sutton.
Extension talks with Bonitto are expected to begin at $23 million per season. Allen is believed to be seeking $25 million per year. Sutton made $15.2 million last season. JFM's estimated market value is about $8.5 million per year, according to Spotrac.com.
After getting deals done with offensive tackle Garett Bolles, guard Quinn Meinerz, pass rusher Jonathon Cooper and cornerback Pat Surtain last year, a few more big extensions could be on deck in the coming months.

He wasn't under the watchful eye of Chargers executive director of player performance Ben Herbert this offseason. He didn't train in the team's El Segundo practice facility. But it doesn't mean Rashawn Slater wasn't working this offseason. Making his first offseason appearance at the Chargers facility this week as the team started mandatory mini camp, Slater immediately passed the team's conditioning test. In fact, Jim Harbaugh said, Slater reported the test was too easy. 'Too easy,' the coach said, 'because he trains.' Slater's return highlighted the Chargers' perfect attendance on the first day of three-day minicamp Tuesday. The star left tackle had missed all of voluntary organized team activities while in discussions for a contract extension. Since the Chargers took him 13th overall in 2021, Slater has earned two Pro Bowl appearances and was named second-team All-Pro in 2021. After the team picked up his fifth-year option last season, Slater re-established himself as one of the top tackles in the league with the second-best overall grade and third-best pass blocking grade among his position, according to Pro Football Focus. In the final year of his contract, he is due to make about $19 million in 2025, which ranks sixth-most among left tackles, according to 'Speaking on behalf of everyone in the organization, fully support Rashawn and what he's trying to accomplish for himself and his family,' said Harbaugh, who added he chooses not to worry about discussions as they continue between general manager Joe Hortiz and Slater's representatives. 'We're all in support.' Slater has maintained his standing in the organization because of his respected work ethic that earned him distinction of being a team captain last season. Harbaugh counts Slater is part of an exclusive club made of the team's nine hardest workers. Ex-Colorado Buffaloes WR trying out for Broncos at minicamp The Denver Broncos brought in a local wide receiver for a tryout this week. Former Colorado Buffaloes receiver Will Sheppard attended mandatory minicamp on a tryout basis on Tuesday, according to a report from the Denver Post's Luca Evans. Evans previously spotted Broncos coach Sean Payton chatting up Sheppard at CU's pro day earlier this year. Sheppard posted 40-yard dash times of 4.56 and 4.54 seconds, a 40.5-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot, 11-inch broad jump at the pro day. He was not picked during the NFL draft in April but is now getting a chance to impress at Broncos Park Powered by CommonSpirit. Sheppard (6-2, 198 pounds) spent four years at Vanderbilt before transferring to Colorado last fall. He totaled 48 receptions for 621 yards and six touchdowns in 2024, ending his five-year college career with 200 catches for 2,688 yards and 27 touchdowns in 55 games. Dobbins is on the move. It's been a wild ride for Dobbins in his short NFL career. After being selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft, the former Buckeye star had a respectable rookie season, rushing for over 800 yards and putting down the foundation of what looked like a promising and productive career. That's when things took a turn. Dobbins suffered a torn ACL in a preseason game prior to the start of the 2021-2022 season and missed the entire year. He rehabbed but again suffered knee problems the following year, only to come back and tear his ACL during the 2023-2024 season. Dobbins signed a new contract with the Los Angeles Chargers prior to the 2024-2025 season and had what could only be described as a bounce-back year, having his most productive campaign of his career by rushing for 905 yards and nine touchdowns. Dobbins also had some yards as a receiver, putting him over 1,000 yards from scrimmage. Now, after all of that rehab and resiliency, Dobbins will be joining the Denver Broncos on a reportedly one-year, $5.25 million deal. The base salary of the contract is $2.75 million, but many incentives are available to push him over $5 million. This is great news for Dobbins. When healthy, he's shown that he can be a difference maker in the backfield, and the Broncos are banking on exactly that. Hopefully, he has a season where he's on the field as much as possible, and that translates into a long-term deal.
