Golden Earring co-founder George Kooymans dies aged 77
Kooymans' family and the surviving members of Golden Earring announced that he had died on Wednesday from complications of ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), which he had been diagnosed with in 2020. He retired from the band soon after.

Kooymans, from The Hague, was in his mid-teens when he helped found what became Golden Earring in the early 1960s: The band's name was inspired by an instrumental of the time, Golden Earrings.
He was also a core member of the group's best known line-up, which featured drummer Cesar Zuiderwijk, singer-guitarist Barry Hay and bassist-keyboardist Rinus Gerritsen and they stayed together from 1970 until Kooymans' departure.
'George bore this devastating and debilitating illness with exceptional strength and dignity,' a statement from Golden Earring reads in part.
'We bid farewell to a great musician and composer, whose work extended beyond Golden Earring. George was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, but above all, a friend.'

With more than 20 top 10 singles in their native country, Golden Earring had more success at home than overseas.
But they began to attract an underground following in the US in the late 1960s and broke through commercially in 1973 with the worldwide hit Radar Love, which has been covered by U2, R.E.M. and many others and used on the soundtrack to Baby Driver, Wayne's World 2 and other films.
Radar Love, with its stately opening riff and memorable opening line 'I've been driving all night, my hands wet on the wheel', was once ranked by Rolling Stone as among the greatest road trip songs.
Golden Earring shared bills with Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin among others and toured with such stars as Aerosmith, Rush and the Doobie Brothers.

In 1982, Twilight Zone became their biggest US song with the help of a video on the recently launched MTV, while other popular tracks included When The Lady Smiles and Going To The Run.
Golden Earring continued to tour and record in the 1990s and beyond. For its 50th anniversary, in 2011, the band was honoured with a commemorative stamp from the Dutch postal service that through an app could be linked to Radar Love.
A farewell performance, without Kooymans, had already been scheduled for early next year.

Poké na Praia: poké bowls have a new home in Estoril
On the other side of the tunnel at Praia da Poça, you'll find this tiny take-away spot where poké bowls rule the menu. Poké na Praia opened on July 3rd, the brainchild of Rob Hornman, a 57-year-old Dutch national who's been living in Portugal for a decade. 'After an international career in hospitality, I retired from corporate life and decided to launch a new business around healthy food concepts,' he tells Time Out Cascais. 'Food concepts that can work in small shops like this one, but also make sense in a delivery format.' The 30-square-metre space comes with a tiny outdoor terrace, featuring a handful of bench seats and a counter with room for around a dozen people. 'It was an opportunity. I found the place and fell in love with it – and with the location,' says Rob Hornman. 'The spot itself inspired the concept for Poké na Praia – being so close to the beach, it would've been a shame not to make that one of its main strengths. Maybe if I'd done a market study I'd have chosen another location, but I trust my instinct and believe in love at first sight.' There are four signature poké bowl combos to choose from – those refreshing Hawaiian-style salad bowls that have become a global hit, and fit in perfectly with beach life in Portugal. You start by picking a base – sushi rice or quinoa– and a protein, which can be tuna, salmon, or Portobello mushrooms marinated in soy. The Mellow bowl features avocado, pineapple, edamame, cucumber, crispy onions, spring onions, coconut and a miso dressing; the Fresh comes with avocado, mango, green apple, coriander, red onion, walnuts and a yuzu-miso sauce; the Zesty includes avocado, orange, edamame, cucumber, wakame seaweed, peanuts and a tangy yuzu-tahini dressing; and, for those who like a bit of heat, the spicy Tangy bowl brings together avocado, physalis, wakame, red onion, pickled ginger, furikake seasoning and a punchy sriracha-ponzu sauce. All bowls are €13.90, with the option to add extras like mini skewers of salmon, tuna or Portobello mushrooms (€5); a bowl of edamame (€2); or sides like marinated cucumber or wakame salad (€3). They also serve açaí bowls (€3.50) and fruit salad (€4.50) – perfect for a beach snack. Wash it all down with fresh fruit juices. 'Our culinary concept was developed by incredibly talented Portuguese chefs with international experience in high-calibre restaurants,' says Hornman. 'We wanted to create something high-quality and truly distinctive.' The Dutch entrepreneur adds that he's already working on more ideas set to be unveiled soon. 'We're developing a portfolio of premium healthy food concepts, specifically designed for the delivery market – pairing thoughtful menus with strong, recognisable brands.'

Inside half a million dollar a week luxury superyacht Kylie Jenner chose to travel to Europe on
Tis the summer of superyachts, and taking the crown this year is Kylie Jenner, with her quarter-of-a-million-dollar boat, as Rihanna and Jeff Bezos also chose the life of luxury As we watched through the lens of her drool-worthy Instagram posts, followers of Kylie Jenner couldn't help but daydream about a 'Euro summer' on a yacht in Greece —until we saw the hefty price tag. Floating somewhere along the Aegean Sea, the billionaire holidayed aboard what can only be described as a floating palace. But it wasn't just any mega yacht, it was the iconic maritime masterpiece known as the Lady Britt. Crafted in 2011, the 207-foot boat was built by the widely known Dutch shipyard Feadship and holds a reputation of her own, thanks to her stunning design and facilities. Of course, just like Kylie herself, the boat was made for the high life and is rumoured to cost an eye-watering $500,000 for one week alone. The yacht is home to an impressive seven staterooms that can host up to 12 guests, not including its 16-person onboard crew, but the magic lies in its indulgent facilities. With an onboard wellness spa, hot tub, gym, and not one but two cinemas, there's no reason to ever leave the Lady Britt, and yet at that price, even the highest-paid celebs wouldn't have much choice. The 27-year-old was joined onboard with her daughter Stormi, aged seven, and other famous friends, as they soaked up everything the Lady Britt had to offer, getting her money's worth. Moreover, there are two Laser Pico sailboats available to explore the seas, along with Jet Skis offering a sense of adventure, and two WaveRunners. If that wasn't enough to make you dream about days spent on a superyacht, then the scuba diving equipment, wakeboards, and kayaks will be sure to set your wanderlust heart on fire. Not forgetting, of course, the yacht limousine transporting guests to and from their chosen travel destinations back to their floating resort. It wasn't just Kylie who chose to set sail this summer. In fact, there seems to be a trend amongst the elite for holidaying on luxury boats, and who better to set an example than pop star Rihanna and her partner A$AP Rocky? To host a party on the French Riviera, a hotel would not do for the world-famous duo, but instead a 143-foot superyacht known as This Is It. Thought to cost €350,000 a week to rent, the boat was hired for all but a fame-filled party for an A$AP Rocky and Ray-Ban collab, following a Cannes film premiere. Amongst its star-studded attendees were model Barbara Palvin, Kelly Rutherford, and Dylan Sprouse, along with the Barbados singer and the host himself. With a price tag that big, it's no surprise that there are plenty of talking points when it comes to the This Is It yacht. A floating pool, glass tubes filled with real plants, and a bar designed to mimic the skin of an elephant are all the quirky elements that make up this to-die-for rental.
