Glasgow Times3 days ago
A second series of the show, which both takes place in and was largely filmed in Scotland's capital, has been commissioned.
The crime procedural series – an adaptation of Jussi Adler-Olsen's novels – will remain based in Scotland 'following the success of the location in the first series', the network said.
Actor Matthew Goode will return as DCI Carl Morck along with his team of misfits – Alexej Manvelov as Akram, Leah Byrne as Rose and Jamie Sives as Hardy.
The titular Dept Q, set up in the basement of an Edinburgh police station, are charged with investigating cases previously deemed unsolvable.
The renewal follows the success of the show's debut series which captivated audiences with its shocking twists and turns.
Netflix (Image: Netflix) Fans praised its darkly humorous style, which explores complex mysteries not just of the cases but of the detectives themselves.
Season 1 spent 6 weeks in the Global Top Ten shows on Netflix.
Netflix Showrunners Mona Qureshi and Manda Levin said: 'We are raring to return to Carl Morck and his band of glorious misfits at Dept. Q.
'Scott Frank brought us best-in-class storytelling and thrilled Netflix audiences worldwide. We can't wait to see what Morck and the gang uncover in Season 2…. Edinburgh, we're back.'
Rob Bullock, Executive Producer, Left Bank Pictures said: 'So, we are going downstairs to Dept. Q for a second season.
Writer and Director Scott Frank added: 'I'm grateful to the folks at Netflix, as well as our shining cast and crew, for once more risking their careers to enable my folly.'
Matthew Goode said: 'I'd like to thank Netflix for giving us the opportunity to further investigate Department Q's storylines. We have a wonderful cast and crew, headed by our resident genius Scott Frank.

'Beautiful' new romantic drama with Netflix stars soars up Amazon Prime charts

Lasse Hallstrom's new romantic drama The Map That Leads to You has landed with a bang on Amazon Prime a day after its release. The 2025 film has a cast filled with Netflix stars, including Outerbanks actor Madelyn Cline as recent graduate Heather, who is travelling around Europe when she meets freespirited Jack, played by Riverdale's KJ Apa. It also stars Sofia Wylie, Ozark's Madison Thompson, Orlando Norman, and Yellowstone's Josh Lucas. The romantic flick is shooting up the Amazon Prime movie charts and landed the number one spot today ahead of Barbie. It's also racing up the top of overall film and TV charts in sixth place behind The Summer I Turned Pretty and ahead of Clarkson's Farm. An adaptation of JP Monninger's novel of the same name, The Map That Leads to You follows Jack and Heather as they grow close over a summer of wine, nibbles and sightseeing bliss, until a devastating secret is unearthed and Jack disappears. Initial reviews are largely positive, as Rotten Tomatoes critics took to the page to share their thoughts. 'Most accurate depiction of backpacking Europe I've ever seen! Here for it!' said Danielle L. 'Wow, what a beautiful movie!' began imme-van-gorp on IMDB. 'This had exactly what a good romantic drama should give: True chemistry, genuine emotion, gorgeous settings, real love, severe heartbreak, and just something that truly sweeps you up and puts you on a roller coaster ride of feelings! 'It went from warm and fuzzy to devastating and heart-rending very slowly, and so I felt like those feelings all came very naturally and, therefore, all the more heartbreakingly. 'In other words, this movie was so lovely yet so sad, and it definitely did exactly what it needed to do to have me in a passionate chokehold from start to finish.' The Summer I Turned Pretty – Romance TV show with 91% on Rotten Tomatoes and 7.4/10 on IMDB The Hunt for Shannon Matthews – 2025 documentary about the disappearance of Shannon Matthews in 2008, which turned out to be a staged kidnapping scheme from her mother and Michael Donovan to claim a £50,000 reward. Butterfly – Action film following former US intelligence operative living in South Korea as he is hunted by a sociopathic young agent tasked with killing him. 6.8/10 IMDB. Neighbours – This Australian TV soap needs no introduction… Countdown – No, not the quiz show. This is a thriller TV show following an LAPD detective who is in a race against time to save millions of people. It's got a 35% Rotten Tomatoes score, though IMDB is looking healthier with 6.8/10. However not everyone is convinced, as Hannah C gave it a an icy one star and wrote: 'This was truly the worst hour (or however long that took) of my entire life. More Trending 'The money spent on making this movie could've been used in so many better ways: feeding the hungry, saving the world, or even covering someone's blow out bachelor party to Vegas. 'Please don't do that ever again. I wish nobody spoke. If there was a plot, I couldn't find it.' The Map That Leads to You is available to watch on Amazon Prime. Got a story?
