One of the standout performances of the franchise is Anthony Starr as Homelander, a sadistic version of Superman that leads the superhero group The Seven.

Homelander has committed numerous atrocities and heinous acts throughout 'The Boys.' Despite this, some fans still gravitate toward the character as a hero. And Starr is having none of it.

During the Awardist Drama Actors Roundtable held by Entertainment Weekly, Starr revealed that he and other members of 'The Boys' had to "knock down" online fans who were glorifying Homelander.
"We had a bunch of guys that, we all kind of knocked them down a little bit on social media," Starr said. "'This guy is not the hero of any story.' They were really glorifying it. They loved him, which is surreal. What I didn't expect was that people would be so conflicted around it and finding themselves feeling empathy for this monster."
Despite this, Starr does his best to prevent Homelander from coming across as "a mustache-twirling villain" and make him more three-dimensional.
"It had to be a real person built from the ground up," Starr said. "The other thing is, I really don't like using the word 'psychopath.' I think it's such a reductive term."

Now, 'The Boys' is heading into its fifth and final season, putting an end to the monstrous hero's story. And producer/writer Eric Kripke couldn't be happier.
"It's just such a gift to know, as a filmmaker anyway, when your story's ending because you know when to just blow the doors off it and completely change the world of the show," Kripke said.
"You don't have to maintain it because you've got six more seasons. You've got to squeeze out of it that it's time to bring on the endgame. So, that's what that finale was built to do."
'The Boys' Season 5 is set to premiere on Amazon in 2026.

Joe Rogan Calls Out Government—'Completely Failed Us'

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Joe Rogan called out the federal government over its handling of last year's mysterious drone sightings in the United States on a new episode of his podcast. They "completely failed us," he said on The Joe Rogan Experience. Newsweek reached out to Rogan's representative via email for comment on Tuesday. Why It Matters Rogan is one of the most influential podcast hosts in the world, with The Joe Rogan Experience often number one on Spotify's podcasts charts. Late last year, mysterious drones were spotted throughout Northeastern states, including New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. At the time, residents shared footage of alleged sightings on social media, raising concerns about security threats. Joe Rogan performs standup comedy in Universal City, California, on April 3, 2010. Paul Archuleta/FilmMagic What To Know On Saturday's episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan interviewed David Kipping, an astronomer and associate professor at Columbia University. At one point, their conversation turned to the topic of UAPs (unidentified anomalous phenomena). "I wonder what they did with those in New Jersey when they were having all of those stupid drone sightings," Rogan said. "What was that all about? That was so strange." "That's one of those things where I feel like the government completely failed us in explaining to people," the former Fear Factor host said. "Like is this some sort of top-secret military thing? Is this another country? Is this some sort of a private business that wants to test how fantastic their drones are. Like why? Why is this happening and why are you freaking everybody out?" "It really sucks that we live in an age of drones and Starlink satellites, because if you see something in the sky now, your immediate reaction is that's probably a human controlled vehicle," Kipping said. "If you could go back to the 1940s, 1930s, if you had UAP reports then, I think they'd be more convincing because that's pre-Sputnik, there shouldn't be anything in orbit of the Earth at that point." In January, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said at the first press briefing of President Donald Trump's second administration that, "after research and study, the drones that were flying over New Jersey in large numbers were authorized to be flown by the FAA [Federal Aviation Administration] for research and various other reasons... Many of these drones were also hobbyists, recreational and private individuals that enjoy flying time, it got worse due to curiosity. This was not the enemy." In December, Rogan said on X that he was "genuinely concerned" about the drones. Along with his message, the UFC commentator shared a video from Saxon Unmanned founder, John Ferguson, whose company is a manufacturer of "custom remote aircraft systems," according to its website. "The only reason why you would ever fly an unmanned aircraft at night is if you're looking for something," Ferguson said in the video. "So my belief is they're trying to smell something on the ground—gas leak, radioactive material, whatever." What People Are Saying In December, then-Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas said on This Week: "There's no question that people are seeing drones. I want to assure the American public that we in the federal government have deployed additional resources, personnel, technology to assist the New Jersey State Police in addressing the drone sightings. Some of those drone sightings are, in fact, drones. Some are manned aircraft that are commonly mistaken for drones. But there's no question that drones are being sighted." Jerry Bruckheimer Teases Johnny Depp Return for 'Pirates' Reboot

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Johnny Depp famously said he wouldn't work for Disney again, even for "$300 million and a million alpacas," but according to producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Depp may just be changing his mind. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bruckheimer said he's been talking to Depp and the actor just might be willing to return to the role of Captain Jack Sparrow. "If he likes the way the part's written, I think he would do it," Bruckheimer told EW. "It's all about what's on the page, as we all know." "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" writer Jeff Nathanson has been working on the script for "Pirates 6," and Bruckheimer said the screenplay is close to ready. Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. Walt Disney Pictures "I think he's cracked it," Bruckheimer said. "He's got an amazing third act. We just gotta clean up the first and second, and then we'll get there. But he wrote a great, great third act." One interesting thing about Bruckheimer's interest in bringing Depp back is that he's confirmed "Pirates of the Caribbean 6" will reboot the franchise. "It's a reboot, but if it was up to me, [Depp] would be in it," Bruckheimer said. "I love him. He's a good friend. He's an amazing artist, and he's a unique look. He created Captain Jack. That was not on the page; that was him doing a little Pepé Le Pew and Keith Richards. That was his interpretation of Jack Sparrow." Nor is this the first time Bruckheimer has talked about bring back previous "Pirates" actors for the reboot. Asked in June if the new film would be all new actors, Bruckheimer said, "Well, not all new actors. We'll have some back ... I'm not going to tell you which ones — you'll have to guess." That same month, Orlando Bloom teased idea of getting "the band back together," when he said, "Well, I don't know, I can't say anything at the moment because I really don't know, but there's definitely availability. I think they're trying to work out what it would all look like, I personally think it'd be great to get the band back together. That would be great, but there are always different ideas, and so we'll see where it lands."
