to give more bowling opportunities to all-rounder
Shardul Thakur
, following India's 5-wicket loss to England in the opening Test at Headingley, Leeds. Thakur's performance was notably poor, scoring only five runs across two innings and claiming just two wickets in his limited 16 overs of bowling during the match.
Rahane emphasised the crucial role of an all-rounder in the team through his YouTube channel, specifically addressing Thakur's underutilisation in the recent Test match.

"I feel an all-rounder's role is very important. Shardul Thakur has been an experienced player and has done well in Test cricket overseas. I want to see more overs from Shardul. If the Indian team can use Shardul Thakur in a better way, that will be really great.
Whatever I have seen with him, he can swing the ball both ways and is a wicket-taker. If Shardul can bowl the first change or even given the new ball he can swing it both ways," Rahane said.
Rahane suggested specific bowling strategy changes to maximise Thakur's effectiveness on the field.
"With the Dukes ball, it generally starts to behave after 10 or 12 overs. If Shardul can start the bowling with Bumrah and Siraj can come in as one change, that will be great.

I would like to see Shardul bowling more overs. Give him that freedom, he will get you more wickets," he added.

While commending Bumrah's performance, Rahane also highlighted the need for better support from other bowlers. "Bumrah's five wicket-haul in the first innings was amazing. Apart from his five wickets what I liked about Bumrah was his intent. The way he was running in his run-up. His intensity throughout his bowling was amazing.
The lines and lengths that he bowled. He was aggressive throughout in his bowling approach," Rahane stated.

"What I would like to see is support from the other end. Bumrah is obviously bowling his attacking lengths but if he can support from Siraj and Prasidh, that will be great for him. You don't want Bumrah to go under pressure and start bowling too many overs and the pressure comes on the team. I want to see Siraj taking that responsibility and also Prasidh if he plays that second Test match," he concluded.

Josh Allen's touchdown dominance overshadows Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts ahead of 2025 season

Josh Allen is set for the 2025 NFL season after his wedding (Image via AP) Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is entering the 2025 NFL season not just with a ring on his finger, but also with a renewed sense of purpose. Fresh off his wedding to actress-singer Hailee Steinfeld, Allen is riding a wave of personal and professional momentum—and the numbers prove it. Josh Allen's dominance forces comparisons with Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks Despite falling short of the Super Bowl last season, Allen's MVP campaign silenced critics and turned heads across the league. With 3,731 passing yards, 28 touchdowns through the air, and an additional 531 rushing yards with 12 rushing TDs, Allen's performance was unmatched. Over the last three seasons, he's totaled a staggering 126 touchdowns—more than any other quarterback in that span. The stat becomes even more impressive when compared to his rivals. He's recorded 21 more total touchdowns than Jalen Hurts and has surpassed both Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow, who are tied behind him. This remarkable feat places Allen in a league of his own—even though Mahomes and Hurts have hoisted the Vince Lombardi Trophy. A new era under Joe Brady and a clear message: start fresh, dominate again Heading into training camp on July 23, the Bills are switching gears under new offensive coordinator Joe Brady. His plan is simple but disciplined: build the offense from the ground up, even with an MVP quarterback at the helm. 'You don't get to pick off where you left off, and we really don't want to,' Brady said. 'Josh embodies that, we're starting over.' The focus is on refining every detail of the playbook, which Brady says can even benefit a veteran like Allen: 'Sometimes you think you know everything... if you really humble yourself to just starting over, there's always little things you can pick up.' Also Read: Brittany Mahomes called out over fake friendship with Taylor Swift and shocking Patrick Mahomes drama With 11 open practices and a new uniform reveal scheduled for August 1, excitement in Buffalo is at a peak. The Bills are betting big on Allen—and the MVP is carrying the weight of those expectations. With elite numbers and a fresh start under a new coordinator, Allen is making it clear: this season isn't about catching up to Mahomes and Hurts. It's about surpassing them. Jun 27, 2025 05:32 PM IST Cristiano Ronaldo signed a new two-year contract extension with Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr, following weeks of speculation over his future. After the official confirmation, the club also posted a teaser video with Ronaldo walking along a beachfront and stating, 'Al Nassr forever' Al Nassr's Cristiano Ronaldo reacts during a match.(REUTERS) Ronaldo is already 40-years-old now and his Saudi Arabia adventure hasn't exactly gone according to plan. Al Nassr has also missed out on AFC Champions Elite qualification for this season and the Portugal international had also hinted at an exit. But now it looks like he will end his career with Al Nassr. According to a report by The Sun, Ronaldo has also received a signing-on fee of 24.5 million pounds, which will increase to 38 million pounds if he remains in the second year of his contract. According to The Sun report, he will also be earning 178 million pounds each year in wages, which is 488,000 pounds per day. Ronaldo will earn 492 million pounds, which could go up to over half a billion pounds if he triggers his bonuses of 4 million pounds (for winning the Golden Boot) and 8 million pounds if Al Nassr win the title. The report also mentions that Ronaldo has been given a 15 percent ownership stake in the club, which is worth 33 million pounds. Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in 2022 after leaving Manchester United. The move made him the highest-paid athlete in the world and he has also topped the list for the last three years, according to Forbes. Ronaldo's tenure with the club saw them miss out on major trophies, and they only bagged the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023. Al Nassr finished in second position in the league in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, and also came third in the previous campaign.
