Randhir Kapoor's old remark on Karisma Kapoor-Sunjay Kapur's marriage resurfaces: 'I never wanted my daughter marrying him'
Years after
Karisma Kapoor
and Sunjay Kapur's turbulent marriage and explosive divorce made headlines, the saga has resurfaced following Sunjay's sudden demise. With a massive inheritance dispute reportedly worth Rs 30,000 crore now in the spotlight, an old interview of Randhir Kapoor—where he openly criticised his daughter's former husband—has gone viral.
Randhir Kapoor
's explosive interview
In an old interview with Hindustan Times, he called his former son-in-law a 'third-class man,' making it clear he was never fond of him. Kapoor strongly criticised Sunjay, saying he never wanted Karisma to marry him. He accused Sunjay of mistreating her, being unfaithful, and living with another woman, adding that his reputation was widely known in Delhi.
The veteran star's sharp response came soon after Sunjay accused Karisma of marrying him for his wealth.
Denying the claims, Karisma's lawyer Kranti Sathe called the allegations false and added that it was up to Sunjay to prove them in court.
Bitter divorce and custody disputes
Meanwhile, in a petition filed by his lawyers Aman and Priya Hingorani and quoted by Mumbai Mirror, Sunjay accused Karisma of failing 'as a wife, a daughter-in-law and a mother," and further claimed she had an extramarital relationship.
Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur got married in 2003 and share two children — Samaira and Kiaan.
After the wedding, Karisma moved to Delhi, but returned to Mumbai with her children in 2011. The couple initially filed for divorce by mutual consent, but in November the following year, Karisma withdrew the petition, alleging that Sunjay had failed to fulfil the financial obligations outlined in their agreement.
Inheritance row
Following Sunjay Kapur's death in London on June 12, 2025, fresh developments have emerged regarding a reported Rs 30,000 crore inheritance dispute.
A Dainik Jagran report suggested that Karisma may be exploring legal options to claim a share of her former husband's estate.
Adding another twist to the ongoing estate conversation, Safira, the daughter of Sunjay's third wife, Priya Sachdev, has reportedly dropped her surname 'Chatwal' and adopted 'Kapur'. Industry observers believe the change may not just be symbolic but a strategic move, potentially aimed at strengthening her stake in the inheritance.

‘Why should people learn acting in Delhi, be forced to work in Mumbai?': Delhi CM says film policy in works
A film policy is being framed to establish Delhi as an international shooting destination, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Sunday as she asserted that her government is 'deeply committed' to turning the city into a 'film hub' and a budget of Rs 3 crore has been allocated to meet the goal. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Celebrating India Film Festival (CIFF) at Siri Fort, she announced that applications for film and other shoots will be approved through a single-window system. The government, she said, 'aims to process these applications via the single-window system to encourage filmmakers, inspire them to use Delhi's locations, and create stories connected to the city.' An International Film Festival will also be organised in the Capital with the participation of the Delhi government — with a budget of ₹30 crore earmarked, she added. Gupta emphasised that 'imagining such a magnificent event in the heart of Delhi – and then turning it into reality – is no easy task'. She told the audience that 'this festival has sent out a message that Delhi is now moving towards becoming a new centre for film production and cultural expression'. So far, the CM pointed out, 'Mumbai has been synonymous with the film and entertainment industry' and that 'talent from Delhi that manages to make some headway in the field often moves to Mumbai in search of better opportunities'. Referring to the National School of Drama, she said it is 'an institute where many actors have honed their craft before earning fame both nationally and internationally but there has never been a serious initiative to develop the film industry in Delhi itself'. 'Why should people learn acting in Delhi, only to be forced to seek work in Mumbai?' she asked. She added that the government is 'planning to develop the film industry in the Capital and provide related facilities'.

THIS actress was the highest-paid actor in India, earned more than Shah Rukh Khan; Rajinikanth wanted to marry her
India's highest-paid actress is Priyanka Chopra, earning around ₹ 30 crore per film. In contrast, actor Allu Arjun is the highest-paid actor in India, taking home a whopping ₹ 300 crore for Pushpa 2: The Rule. The vast gap between these figures speaks volumes about the gender pay disparity in the industry — a stark contrast to an era when this actress was the highest-paid star in India, even earning more than Shah Rukh Khan, Salman, Chiranjeevi, Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth. In fact, she was so admired that even Rajinikanth once wanted to propose to her. The actress was none other than the late Sridevi. Back in the 90s, Sridevi, often called one of India's first lady superstar, made history by becoming the first female actor to demand ₹ 1 crore for a film. She reportedly charged this amount for the 1993 release Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja. The film was among the most expensive Indian movies of its time. Back then, the only actor charging more per film was Chiranjeevi. However, Sridevi quickly raised her fees, and by the mid-90s, even as Kamal Haasan and Amitabh Bachchan entered the ₹ 1-crore club, it is believed that Sridevi was commanding a higher paycheck than both of them. Even youngsters of the industry, including Shah Rukh, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Sunny Deol and Sanjay Dutt, were not earning close to Sridevi's fees. As per a report of Hindustan Times, they earned within the range of ₹ 50-75 lakh from 1992 to 97. The Khans entered the ₹ 1 crore club only after Sridevi quit films in the late 90s. Sridevi's unmatched versatility and pan-India stardom made her a top name across the Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu film industries. One of the few actresses who could carry films like Chandni, Gumraah, Army, and Laadla on her own, she often landed stronger roles than her peers and even charged more than many male co-stars of the time. Rajinikanth, who worked with Sridevi in Ranuva Veeran, Pokkiri Raja, and Chaalbaaz, was smitten by her. According to filmmaker K. Balachander, Balachander, Rajinikanth once went to propose to Sridevi at her house. However, just as Rajinikanth arrived, a sudden power outage took place at Sridevi's house. Rajinikanth, who is said to be superstitious, took it as a bad omen and left without conveying his feelings. It is said that he never shared his feelings with her again. Sridevi left films at the peak of her career when she got pregnant with her first child, Janhvi Kapoor, with Boney Kapoor. After the 1997 film, Judaai, she remained absent from films for nearly 15 years as she raised her daughter, Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor. The actor later made a brief comeback with the television show Malini Iyer in 2004-05. Her big-screen comeback came in 2012 with English Vinglish. She starred in films like Puli (2015) and Mom (2017) before her unfortunate death due to accidental drowning in 2018.
