No final, but plenty of pride for Tang Jie-Wen Tse
KUALA LUMPUR: Unseeded Chen Tang Jie-Chan Wen Tse can hold their heads high despite bowing out in the mixed doubles semi-finals of the Taiwan Open in Taipei on Saturday (May 10).
Tang Jie-Wen Tse, playing together for the first time, were stopped by world No. 22 Jafar Hidayatullah-Felisha Pasaribu, losing 21-11, 21-15 in 38 minutes.
Despite the defeat, the Malaysians pulled off several upsets en route to the last four.
While Tang Jie is no stranger to reaching the business end of major World Tour events, this marked Wen Tse's best result in a Super 300 tournament.
Her previous best was reaching the semi-finals of the non-World Tour Vietnam International Challenge and Vietnam International Series this year with regular partner Wee Yee Hern, currently ranked world No. 174.
Tang Jie-Wen Tse's brief partnership will conclude after the Malaysia Masters (May 20-25), as the former will reunite with Toh Ee Wei for the Singapore Open (May 27–June 1).
Wen Tse was given the opportunity to pair with Tang Jie by national coach Nova Widianto, following the latter's short-term split from Ee Wei last month.
Ee Wei also featured at the Taiwan Open, where she and Loo Bing Kun exited in the quarter-finals on Friday.
Both Malaysian pairs face a tough challenge at the Malaysia Masters, which have attracted several top-10 teams.
After that, Wen Tse is expected to resume her partnership with Yee Hern, while Bing Kun will likely pair with Cheng Soo Hui or Go Pei Kee.

KUALA LUMPUR: Four titles in just three consecutive weeks — a feat never before achieved by Malaysian badminton on the World Tour. It all began with world No. 3 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and world No. 4 Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah, who bagged the men's and women's doubles titles at the Super 500 Thailand Open four weeks ago. Then came world No. 7 Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, who stunned Aaron-Wooi Yik to claim the Super 500 Malaysia Masters. Aaron-Wooi Yik bounced back in style to secure their second World Tour crown at the Super 750 Singapore Open, bringing Malaysia's tally to four titles. Pearly-Thinaah narrowly missed out on a fifth, going down in a thrilling final to China's world No. 1 Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning at the Indonesia Open on Sunday. Wei Chong-Kai Wun also impressed with a semi-final finish. The relentless four-week run demanded immense physical and mental endurance, and Malaysia's doubles pairs delivered in style. Hakim Danish dedicates Aragon win to all Malaysians
KUALA LUMPUR: Motorcycle racer Hakim Danish Ramli is on track to becoming the first-ever Malaysian to win the Red Bull Rookies Cup title. With the season nearing the halfway mark, Hakim consolidated his position atop the championship standings after winning his first race of the season in Aragon, Spain (race two) yesterday (June 8). The 17-year-old now has 125 points to his name. Spanish duo Brian Uriarte (95 points) and Benat Fernandez (63 points) are second and third in the championship. Hakim dedicated his victory in Aragon, Spain to all Malaysians. Uriarte (+0.188s) and David Gonzalez (+0.195s) finished second and third in race two. "Obviously I'm really happy to win the race as it was quite challenging," said Hakim. "My tyre grip was fading so I had to manage it carefully and try my best to remain patient while staying with the lead group. "On the second last lap I made a mistake and forgot to downshift one more gear. I got overtaken and went down to seventh position. "I quickly focused on catching up and during the last corner was able to get on the throttle earlier and hit the line first. "Thank you to everyone who has supported me, this win is for all Malaysians." With four rounds and eight races remaining this season, the championship fight is far from over though Hakim's consistent performances this season will put pressure on his rivals. The Terengganu-born finished second in all his first five races of the season before winning yesterday. The Red Bull Rookies Cup is one of the key feeder series for the Moto3 World Championship. Former champions in the series who have gone on to shine include Johann Zarco, Jorge Martin and Pedro Acosta, among others Last month Sepang International Circuit (SIC) chief executive officer Azhan Shafriman Hanif disclosed that Hakim essentially has a seat waiting for him in Moto3 next season but must first prove himself worthy of the slot. Hakim is a product of SIC's two-wheel talent development programme which is run by ZK Racing. Mugello will host the next round of the Red Bull Rookies Cup on June 21-22.
