PETALING JAYA: Young shuttler Chan Wen Tse has showed that her partnership with Wee Yee Hern is here to stay after winning the Thailand International Series. World No. 144 Yee Hern-Wen Tse showed promise when they pulled off an impressive 22-20, 21-16 win over world No. 64 home pair Ratchapol Makkasasithorn-Nattamon Laisuan in Korat yesterday. The 20-year-olds, who only combined early this year, stayed composed to win a close opening game before sealing the victory in just 33 minutes. Wen Tse, who hails from Kelantan is hoping that the title in Thailand will be the first of many from them. 'I'm really happy to win my first title with Yee Hern. 'This is just the beginning for us and we'll keep working hard for more titles in the future,' said Wen Tse. The win was sweet revenge for Yee Hern-Wen Tse after losing to the Thai pair in the last four of the Sri Lanka International Series in March. 'We prepared well both physically and mentally for this tournament,' she said. 'The key to our win was staying focused, communicating constantly and sticking to our game plan.' Yee Hern-Wen Tse were only competing in their second tournament together after reuniting following a brief split when Wen Tse was combined with Chen Tang Jie. Spurred on by the win, Wen Tse is next out to break into the top 50 in the world rankings with Yee Hern. 'This win gives us great confidence to keep pushing and aiming higher in our next tournaments,' said Wen Tse. 'Our trust and teamwork help us perform well as a pair. We hope to next break into the world's top 50.' Yee Hern-Wen Tse will have an opportunity to grab back-to-back titles when they play next in the Malaysian International Challenge starting tomorrow in Ipoh, Perak.

Yee Hern-Wen Tse's Korat triumph fuels world ranking charge

KUALA LUMPUR: The Thailand International Series title is just the start for national mixed doubles back-up pair Wee Yee Hern-Chan Wen Tse, with a place in the world's top 50 now firmly in their sights. The world No. 144 Malaysians stunned Thailand's world No. 64 Ratchapol Makkasasithorn-Nattamon Laisuan 22-20, 21-16 in just 33 minutes in Korat on Sunday to claim their first title together. It was their second win over the Thai pair, following victory at the Sri Lanka International Challenge in February. Wen Tse, 20, was delighted to lift her first title alongside Yee Hern, 21, and is determined to keep the momentum going. "I'm really happy to win my first title with Yee Hern," she said. "This is just the beginning for us, and we'll keep working hard to win more. "Hopefully, we can break into the world's top 50 this year and add more titles." Their success is even more impressive as it was only their second tournament together since reuniting earlier this month. Earlier in the year, Wen Tse had partnered Chen Tang Jie, reaching the semi-finals of the Taiwan Open before a first-round exit at the Malaysia Masters in May. During that spell, Yee Hern played with Clarissan San at the World University Games in Germany. Their chemistry in Korat has given national mixed doubles coach Nova Widianto another promising option to support world No. 4 pair Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei. Yee Hern-Wen Tse will now turn their attention to the Malaysia International Challenge in Perak, which starts on Tuesday.

Yee Hern-Wen Tse shock Thai pair to win first senior title

KUALA LUMPUR: National mixed doubles back-up pair Wee Yee Hern-Chan Wen Tse claimed their first senior title after winning the Thailand International Series on Sunday. The world No 144 stunned Thailand's world No 64 Ratchapol Makkasasithorn-Nattamon Laisuan 22-20, 21-16 in just 33 minutes in Korat. It was Yee Hern-Wen Tse's second win over the Thai duo, following their victory at the Sri Lanka International Challenge in February. They now lead the head-to-head 2-1. This was only their second tournament together since reuniting at the Macau Open earlier this month. Wen Tse had partnered Chen Tang Jie during a brief split with Toh Ee Wei earlier in the year, reaching the semi-finals of the Taiwan Open before exiting in the first round of the Malaysia Masters in May. During that period, Yee Hern played with Clarissan San at the World University Games in Germany. Although Yee Hern and Wen Tse were knocked out in the first round in Macau by compatriots Loo Bing Kun-Go Pei Kee, their victory in Korat underlines their chemistry and potential as a pair. The result also gives national mixed doubles coach Nova Widianto another promising partnership to back up Tang Jie-Ee Wei. Yee Hern-Wen Tse will next feature at the Malaysia International Challenge in Perak next week.

No final, but plenty of pride for Tang Jie-Wen Tse

KUALA LUMPUR: Unseeded Chen Tang Jie-Chan Wen Tse can hold their heads high despite bowing out in the mixed doubles semi-finals of the Taiwan Open in Taipei on Saturday (May 10). Tang Jie-Wen Tse, playing together for the first time, were stopped by world No. 22 Jafar Hidayatullah-Felisha Pasaribu, losing 21-11, 21-15 in 38 minutes. Despite the defeat, the Malaysians pulled off several upsets en route to the last four. While Tang Jie is no stranger to reaching the business end of major World Tour events, this marked Wen Tse's best result in a Super 300 tournament. Her previous best was reaching the semi-finals of the non-World Tour Vietnam International Challenge and Vietnam International Series this year with regular partner Wee Yee Hern, currently ranked world No. 174. Tang Jie-Wen Tse's brief partnership will conclude after the Malaysia Masters (May 20-25), as the former will reunite with Toh Ee Wei for the Singapore Open (May 27–June 1). Wen Tse was given the opportunity to pair with Tang Jie by national coach Nova Widianto, following the latter's short-term split from Ee Wei last month. Ee Wei also featured at the Taiwan Open, where she and Loo Bing Kun exited in the quarter-finals on Friday. Both Malaysian pairs face a tough challenge at the Malaysia Masters, which have attracted several top-10 teams. After that, Wen Tse is expected to resume her partnership with Yee Hern, while Bing Kun will likely pair with Cheng Soo Hui or Go Pei Kee.
