Patiala: The sarpanch of Jouramajra, the native village of former cabinet minister and MLA (Samana) Chetan Singh Jouramajra, Wednesday drew CM Bhagwant Mann's attention to the lack of development and the continued neglect of the village by sitting MLA (Shutrana), Kulwant Singh Baazigar of AAP.
Speaking during the 'AAP Sarkar Aapke Dwar' programme here, sarpanch Avatar Singh urged the CM to urgently sanction funds for Jouramajra. "Despite being an AAP stronghold, Jouramajra has received no attention in the past three years. Neither has MLA Kulwant Singh Baazigar visited our village, nor have any development grants been sanctioned during his tenure," he alleged.
Jouramajra, which falls under the Shutrana assembly segment in Patiala district, has roughly a population of about 1,500.
Despite its political significance, having produced a cabinet minister in the past, residents claim the village remains devoid of basic infrastructure improvements.
During the recent panchayat elections, Avatar, who is said to be a close confidant of Chetan Singh Jouramajra, defeated Laddi Singh — allegedly backed by MLA Kulwant Singh Baazigar—from a general category seat, despite being a dalit candidate.
Outlining the key demands of the village, the sarpanch highlighted the need to upgrade the govt school from Class 8 to Class 10, citing safety concerns for students, particularly girls, who currently travel 5km daily to the nearest school in Dhanetha.
Other demands include the setting up of a library or dispensary, a stadium, a marriage hall for the underprivileged, and an embroidery training centre for girls.
"Though Rs 3 lakh was approved under Mgnrega for the stadium with the help of former minister Jouramajra, this amount is insufficient," Avatar said. He acknowledged the efforts of the former minister in installing solar lights and rejuvenating a village pond but emphasised that much more needs to be done.
"I had put forth these demands before our MLA, but nothing has been done so far. Some are criticising me for raising this issue before the CM, but I ask — what wrong have I done by standing up for my village?" Avatar said.
Following the sarpanch's plea, the CM reportedly instructed concerned officials to take swift action, offering a glimmer of hope to the villagers who have long awaited tangible development.
The episode reignited discussions over intraparty dynamics within AAP and the alleged sidelining of villages aligned with certain political figures, despite being part of the same political fold.
MLA Kulwant Singh Baazigar couldn't respond as he was busy in a meeting.
Deputy commissioner (Patiala) Preeti Yadav, too, did not respond to repeated phone calls and messages.

Rahul set to address EBC meet in Nalanda on June 6
Patna: Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will visit Bihar for the fifth time this year on June 6 to address an extremely backward class (EBC) conference at Rajgir in Nalanda, the home district of CM Nitish Kumar. His visit comes just a week after PM Narendra Modi's two-day tour of Bihar, during which he inaugurated and laid foundation stones for projects worth over Rs 48,500 crore on May 29 and May 30. Congress state media cell chairman Rajesh Rathorre said on Saturday that the detailed itinerary of Rahul had not yet reached the party headquarters, though he is expected to arrive in Patna on way to Rajgir. Rahul's visit is part of the Congress's intensified campaign for the Bihar assembly elections due in Oct-Nov. Senior party leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, have made regular visits to the state since Jan. The Congress is seeking to regain support among Dalits, EBCs, and Muslims, its traditional voter base. Rahul's Nalanda rally is being seen as an attempt to challenge Nitish in his own stronghold. However, dismissing the impact of the visit, JD(U) leader and minister Ashok Choudhary said, "Congress will not benefit from his frequent visits to Bihar." Rahul earlier visited the state on Jan 18, Feb 4, April 7 and May 15. During his last visit, he addressed students at Ambedkar Hostel in Darbhanga, defying administrative orders. Two FIRs were lodged against him for the violation.

NTR Bharosa pension distribution in a festive atmosphere
Minister for Housing and Information and Public Relations Kollusu Parthasaradhi said that under the NTR Bharosa scheme, ₹2,712 crore are being disbursed every month to 65 lakh beneficiaries across the State. In Eluru district alone, ₹113 crore are being distributed to 2.58 lakh people, he said. On Saturday (May 31), the Minister conducted a surprise inspection of NTR Bharosa pension distribution at Agiripalli in Nuzvid Constituency. He visited the homes of some beneficiaries, interacted with their family members and handed over the pension amounts. On this occasion, he said that Andhra Pradesh is the only State in the country to provide social security pensions on such a large scale, with thousands of crores being spent. He mentioned that Andhra Pradesh is spending ₹33,600 crore annually on social pensions under the NTR Bharosa scheme. He noted that in Agiripalli Mandal alone, ₹41,29,950 was disbursed to 9,425 beneficiaries. Despite the challenging financial situation of the state, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is steering the administration effectively with his vast experience and is giving top priority to the welfare of the poor, the Minister said. He emphasised that, unlike the previous government, which took five years to increase the pension amount from ₹2,000 to ₹3,000, the current government raised the pension from Rs. 3,000 to Rs.4,000 within just 10 days of coming to power. He assured that pensions are being delivered to beneficiaries at their doorstep on the 1st of every month. If the beneficiary is unavailable, the amount will be delivered on the 2nd. Since June 1 falls on a Sunday, the government ensured the pensions were distributed a day in advance. The Minister said this reflects the government's sincere commitment to the poor. The government is providing ₹4,000 to the elderly, ₹6,000 to the differently-abled, ₹10,000 to patients suffering from kidney and other chronic diseases, and ₹15,000 to bedridden individuals as promised by the Chief Minister, who stands by such families in their time of need.
