KPKT seeks 2026 budget boost for 10,000 infrastructure projects
Minister Nga Kor Ming confirmed the proposal will be submitted to the Finance Ministry this month.
Last year, KPKT executed 6,611 projects, ranking it as Malaysia's top-performing ministry.
'This year, we are aiming higher...targeting 10,000 public infrastructure projects in a single year,' Nga said during the Sentuhan Kasih KPKT Taiping event.
The press conference was attended by Taiping MP Wong Kah Woh and senior officials from local government and landscape departments.
Nga inspected key sites, including Kamunting Public Market and the Taiping Lake Fountain Beautification Project.
An additional RM10.4 million has been allocated for 35 infrastructure projects in Taiping.
These include upgrades in Bandar Taiping City and landscape development at Lapang Tanjung Sungai Mas.
Non-Muslim houses of worship and 24 housing initiatives are also part of the approved plans.
'All projects under the fifth Rolling Plan will start promptly and finish by year-end,' Nga added.
Taiping's major projects include a RM10 million upgrade of Taiping Lake Gardens.
The revamp aims to position the park as Malaysia's most scenic lake destination. - Bernama

DagangHalal to help Japanese halal businesses widen reach in international markets
PETALING JAYA: the world's largest halal business-to-business e-marketplace, will support Japanese halal-certified companies through an initiative with the Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro) in Kuala Lumpur to boost the presence of Japanese halal-certified products in Southeast Asia, particularly in Malaysia. DagangHalal will host the Japan Pavilion on its dedicated platform, enabling Japanese halal-certified manufacturers to directly showcase their products to verified buyers across more than 90 countries. This initiative marks the first-ever national halal pavilion from Japan hosted on highlighting the platform's robust global reach and strategic role in facilitating international halal trade. 'This project with Jetro reinforces DagangHalal's commitment to connecting quality halal suppliers with global markets. 'We are honoured to support Japanese businesses in expanding their footprint within the rapidly growing halal consumer segment. Through our digital platform, we aim to provide seamless access, targeted exposure, and meaningful business connections for Japanese halal-certified products,' a company spokesperson said in a statement. Jetro's initiatives focus strategically on Malaysia's halal market, recognising its significance as a gateway to Southeast Asia's 280 million-strong Muslim consumer base, which is projected to grow to about 310 million by 2050. Malaysia has around 21.6 million Muslims, making it an ideal market for halal-certified Japanese products. The dedicated Japan Halal Export Pavilion aligns seamlessly with DagangHalal's mission to simplify international trade for halal-certified products through digital solutions and compliance management. DagangHalal's Halal Internal Assurance System, a cutting-edge digital compliance platform, complements Jetro's strategy by providing essential tools that streamline certification processes, enhance transparency, and facilitate swift market entry. In addition to the digital presence, DagangHalal also supports Jetro's efforts at major physical trade shows, including Food & Hospitality Malaysia 2025, scheduled for Sept 23–26. During the event, the curated Japan Street Halal Catalogue, developed by Jetro, will be leveraged to enhance in-person business meetings, connecting Japanese suppliers directly with Southeast Asian halal-focused buyers. 'We view our project with Jetro as a step towards strengthening halal trade relations between Japan and Southeast Asia. This partnership creates substantial opportunities for Japanese companies, ensuring their innovative and high-quality halal products are effectively showcased and successfully enter the regional markets,' the spokesperson said.

Cabinet to review long-awaited Bukit Merah water project this week
TELUK INTAN: The long-awaited water transfer project from Sungai Perak to Tasik Bukit Merah is finally moving forward, with a cabinet paper set to be tabled this week. Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the project involves a major infrastructure initiative aimed at addressing irrigation and water supply needs in northern Perak. He said the state government has submitted its feedback and views particularly on the proposed route for the water transfer to ensure the project meets local needs and minimises negative impacts. "I have been informed that the cabinet paper will be tabled this week. Previously, during the exco (executive council) meeting, we decided that the cabinet paper must take into account the requests, comments, and feedback from the state government. "Firstly, water is a state right. Secondly, the state knows better which routes are more suitable, as we want to minimise the risk of flooding, reduce land acquisition, and avoid relocating too many people," he said. Saarani told this to reporters after attending the Meet the Customer Day event at Dewan MPTI Langkap here today. A cabinet paper is a formal document used to present policy proposals or other significant matters to the government for discussion and decision-making. Saarani said certain routes could affect populated areas, which would require costly compensation and resettlement processes. "We have officially written to the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry to convey our stand. "While I can't disclose the contents of the cabinet paper, as it is highly confidential, I am confident that our input is being taken into account," he said. He said, once the cabinet greenlights the paper, the next phase will involve the Finance Ministry in terms of funding allocation. He added that the implementation of the RM6.2 billion project, originally estimated at RM5 billion, must benefit local contractors. "We have proposed, and the ministry has agreed, to appoint a joint venture between PKNPk (Perak State Development Corporation) and Gamuda Bhd. "At the same time, smaller local contractors, especially G1-class contractors, must also be given opportunities under the project," he said. Saarani said the state is in the midst of finalising the project alignment through a series of workshops involving state representatives in the decision-making process. "If everything goes smoothly, I hope the project can be expedited. The main objective is to solve the irrigation issues in the northern agricultural zones," he said. He added that the project is also expected to support the water supply needs of the Kerian Integrated Green Industrial Park (KIGIP). "Only if there is excess supply will the state consider selling water to Penang. This project addresses three goals in one — agriculture, industrial development, and potentially water sales," he said. When asked about the final length of the water transfer alignment, Saarani said he could not confirm the exact figure, as several route options had been evaluated.
