EastEnders fans 'obsessed' as Walford legend returns to TV screens
The actress, who played iconic character Heather Trott on the BBC One soap from 2007 to 2012, has been open about her financial struggles and lack of work in recent years.
Last year Cheryl opened up about being unable to find work, and how she was able to get help from a food bank, as well as from co-star Dame Barbara Windsor.
'The lovely late great Barbara Windsor was getting her chequebook out to help me,' she said.
'They helped me out a lot and helped my family.'
Now, Cheryl has returned to our screens in a guest role in BBC Two's surreal comedy Mandy, which is written by and stars Diane Morgan.
Each episode follows the exploits of permanently out of work Mandy Carter and her best friend Lola, who often find themselves in madcap situations and meeting colourful characters.
In the first episode of the latest series, which can be streamed now on iPlayer, Mandy is forced to attend a restart scheme at her local job centre, where she meets Stella (Fergison), a mute woman who only speaks once to say she 'looks dirty'.
After performing illegal cosmetic surgery on an old school mate, the titular character then splashes the cash on an expensive new outfit to prove Stella and the other attendees wrong.
Taking to social media, Cheryl's fans have expressed their elation at seeing her again.

Meanwhile, Sam said that just when he's finished on challenge, he's onto the next. "Bring it on and get me up that travelator! But on a serious note, I genuinely can't wait to take part, I'm so excited. I grew up watching the show, so to now be taking on the Gladiators in real life is really cool," he said. Nicola admitted that she was "absolutely buzzing" to be taking part in the special, adding: "It's such an iconic show and growing up, I loved watching the epic battles and strong personalities. Now, getting the chance to step into that arena myself, it's a whole new kind of challenge. I may be a champion in the boxing ring, but this is different. I'm ready to give it everything I've got!" While Vogue added: "This is wild. I have loved this show since I was little and I'll be living out my childhood dream just stepping into the arena. But I can't quite process how I'll actually face these amazing Gladiators. I'm just delighted to be a contender!" They'll be taking on the likes of Apollo, Athena, Bionic, Comet, Cyclone, Diamond, Dynamite, Electro, Fire, Fury, Giant, Hammer, Legend, Nitro, Phantom, Sabre, Steel, and Viper - the Gladiators who will be returning to the physically-toned cast. The news comes just a month after the BBC announced that Gladiators would be back after the rating success of the last series. A LINE of Duty star has revealed the hit BBC thriller is 'definitely coming back' - four years on from its explosive ending. Having launched in 2012, the show followed a fictional police force called AC-12. 4 4 4 Line of Duty ended in 2021 after six action-packed series on BBC One. Viewers watched as the team finally uncovered the mysterious criminal H. There have been rumblings of a possible return - as fans were left wanting more. Speaking to The Telegraph, actor Adrian Dunbar - aka Supt. Ted Hastings - was asked directly whether the show was returning. The Northern Irish actor replied: "Oh, it's definitely coming back. "Some time next year. We're just waiting for the BBC to announce it." He added: "I know Jed is writing. And Martin and Vicky are very keen." It comes as Adrian and co-star Martin Compston recently dropped massive hints about the show's return. The Sun exclusively revealed in April that the ratings hit would be returning for a long-awaited seventh outing in 2026, with filming starting in the first half of the year. Talking on the Nicky Byrne podcast, Martin was asked whether he'd be taking part in Sport Aid next May. Vikings star looks completely unrecognisable in upcoming BBC mystery crime series
A popular Vikings star is worlds away from the Middle Ages in this upcoming BBC crime drama Vikings: Valhalla star Leo Suter looks completely unrecognisable in his latest role after portraying Harald Sigurdsson in three seasons of the hit Netflix spin-off. A sequel series to the original Vikings on the History Channel and Prime Video, the epic historical drama concluded the tale of legendary explorer Leif Erikson (played by Sam Corlett) last year. Suter portrayed Harald, a young warrior who eventually becomes known as the King of Norway in the 11th Century while developing complex relationships with Leif and his sister Freydís Eiríksdóttir (Frida Gustavsson). Since finishing the series, Suter has bagged a leading role in a highly anticipated BBC crime drama based on bestselling novels by Elizabeth George. Launching later this year on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, the four-part drama follows upper-class detective Tommy Lynley (Suter), who's paired with streetwise Barbara Havers (Sofia Barclay) to solve crimes around the UK. A reimagining of the original hit series which aired between 2001-2008, Lynley has assembled a stellar supporting cast for its first season which also includes Daniel Mays, Niamh Walsh, Michael Workeye and Joshua Sher. A synopsis reads: 'Tommy Lynley is a brilliant police detective but an outsider in the force – simply by virtue of his aristocratic upbringing. 'He is paired with Barbara Havers, a sergeant with a maverick attitude and a working-class background. 'With seemingly nothing in common and against all odds, the mismatched duo of Lynley and Havers become a formidable team, bonded by their desire to see justice done. His brain and her spirit – his knowledge and her instincts. 'It is only through working side by side do they both find where they truly belong.' The first-look stills from the upcoming drama, which will consist of four 90-minute episodes, feature Suter looking far away from the rugged world of Vikings. Swapping his beard and armour for a clean-cut look, the rising star looks like a completely different person altogether in the recently released promo images. Meanwhile, Barclay, best known for roles in Ted Lasso and Prime Target, opts for a more casual look as Lynley's partner, Havers, who's not afraid to get her hands dirty. Steve Thompson of Sherlock fame is the creator, writer and executive producer, with directing duties filled by The Last Kingdom's Ed Bazalgette and All Creatures Great and Small's Stewart Svaasand. Author Elizabeth George is also on board as an executive producer, giving book fans confidence this new revamp will do her original novels justice. Lynley premieres this autumn on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
