Very unusual nickname Prince William used to avoid unwanted attention
Ever since the moment he was born, Prince William has been in the public eye as future King.
All of his difficult moments, like the deaths of his grandparents Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip - as well as the sudden death of Princess Diana - have played out on the world stage.
Royal fans have also been there for the joyful times, like this wedding to Princess Kate in 2011, and the births of his three children, George, Charlotte and Louis.
But there was a time when William, who is celebrating his 43rd birthday today, wanted to shy away from the spotlight, as he went down an unusual path to stay under the radar.
During his time at St Andrew's University, there was much speculation about the young prince and his studies, even though much of the media agreed he should be able to complete his university education in Scotland in peace.
In order to hide from prying eyes, it had been reported that William had adopted an exceptionally normal moniker during his time at uni - Steve.
While William was enrolled in the school under his proper royal name, it is believed that his classmates often used the name in order to keep any unwanted attention off the young royal.
As William and Kate were close friends at university and lived in the same student accommodation, there is a good chance that his now wife also used the pseudonym.
William first started out at St Andrew's studying the history of art, but quickly changed to geography, finishing up his studies in 2005 and graduating in the same ceremony as Kate.
The ceremony was attended by the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, as well as his father King Charles and stepmother Queen Camilla.
Now, 20 years on, William and Kate have been happily married for 14 years and are the parents to three children - Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
It seems having nicknames is something that runs in the family, with both William and Kate giving different monikers to their daughter, Princess Charlotte. The sweet nickname was revealed several years ago, when William and Kate took their three children to the Chelsea Flower Show in 2019.
In adorable family footage, the three young children could be seen running around enjoying the stunning flower creations - and at one point William called out for his daughter.
But instead of calling her Charlotte, he called out for 'Mignonette'. The French word is said to mean "small, sweet, and delicate" or "cute". Older French definitions also show it can mean gentle and kind.
It's rather different from the nickname Kate has previously been known to call her young daughter - Lottie.

Suranne Jones details challenges of Netflix's Hostage role
Suranne Jones stars as a fictional British Prime Minister in new Netflix thriller Hostage Actress Suranne Jones has revealed her thoughts on playing fictional British Prime Minister Abigail Dalton in her latest Netflix series Hostage, reports the Manchester Evening News. Chatting to journalists including Reach Screen Time at a London screening yesterday (August 18), the 46 year old star made a startling confession about taking on the role of UK leader Dalton, admitting she wouldn't fancy the job in reality. She said: "A woman, before she's even put on her very high, hurty shoes, she has a lot of baggage and a lot of things that she is carrying: the way she looks, the way she dresses, the way she's been educated. "All of those things. How she behaves with her family or her background, everything, before she starts to go out into the world and getting judged for it. "Obviously, I'm well known. People recognise me. I try to keep a private element to my life, but then I do want to show support of the charities I work for and all of that stuff, and the community theatre that I like to give elevation to, so I drew on a lot of that stuff. But I wouldn't want to be a prime minister." READ MORE: Netflix makes huge announcement over 'addictive' crime thriller which will delight fans She continued discussing the programme: "The early name for the show was 'The Choice' and I think that's the thing, the choice of wanting a job like that, the choice of your family or your country. "It blows my mind, I can't even imagine... obviously, I had to because I play the prime minister, so I did have to imagine. But these big, big choices, they're huge and so it's just making people think." The five-part political thriller witnesses Dalton being blackmailed following her husband's kidnapping whilst he's working overseas, with the captors threatening his murder unless she steps down from office. Get Netflix free with Sky from £15 Sky Get the deal here Product Description The kidnapping happens during French President Vivienne Toussaint's (Julie Delpy) visit as both women prepare for challenging negotiations, creating additional layers of complexity and political manoeuvring. The Oldham-born actress, most recognised for her performances in Gentleman Jack and Vigil, thoroughly prepared and researched the character by consulting numerous female politicians. Hostage's creator Matt Charman outlined some of the research lead star and producer Jones undertook for the part. He revealed: "What she didn't say and what's part of her research is we spoke to a lot of female politicians. "Suranne spoke to people who have been leaders and prime ministers, and who were really wonderful and breaking it down and saying, 'It's how knackered you are at the end of the day. It's how much reading you've got to do. It's how hard it is to see your friends. You have to schedule these appointments months in advance'." He continued: "We spoke to a few politicians with kids and the thing they said the most [...] was their guilt is always around the children. "It's always around what the kids have to give up, how hard it was for the kids, how social media has become this thing... imagine being someone's son or daughter of someone in the cabinet and people saying stuff about your mum and dad everyday, posting videos, scaring you, sending stuff directly to you. "That's what most politicians feel sick about. I'm tough enough that I get through it, but my kids go to school and it's awful for them." Alongside Jones and Delpy, Hostage features a stellar cast including Lucian Msamati, Corey Mylchreest, and Ashley Thomas. The programme will be released as a complete boxset for viewers to devour in one marathon session.

TV fans defend 'unbelievably stupid' crime thriller that's streaming for free
There's a new crime thriller out on Channel 4 which has proven divisive among those that have already watched it. The German drama Hellground – originally titled Höllgrund when it aired in Germany in 2022 – is described as a 'dark' eight-part tale which is set in the seemingly idyllic Black Forest village. That is until the popular village GP dies and the coppers start to think there was some foul play afoot in the death. Then, one murder leads to others –at which point it becomes clear there is indeed something afoot. Local police officer Tanja Hartholz (Lou Strenger) launches an investigation which encompasses the Schwarzwald village's past. The deeper she begins to dig, the more pushback she gets from the community, and the more evident it becomes that this spate of violence is connected to a decades-old event in the village's history. At just thirty minute episodes a pop, this latest addition to Channel 4's Walter Presents platform is one you'll be able to breeze through easily enough. What you make of the show might depend though, since it's garnered mixed reaction from viewers so far. Hellground currently holds a 6.3 rating out of 10 on IMDb. Hellground viewers have taken to Google reviews to share their take on the series, with some criticising elements of the show while others lept to its defence. One of those on the ante camp was Uwe Mohs, who described the show as 'unbelievably unbelievable' and awarded it two stars on account of the show's soundtrack. Mohs wrote: 'The story would be good if it weren't so completely out of touch with reality. All the protagonists' actions are so unbelievably stupid that it's infuriating. Under Fire . ITV Good Morning Britain star's 'really worried' reaction to on air development
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Good Morning Britain hosts Adil Ray and Kate Garraway were left alarmed following a breaking news bulletin. Tuesday's (August 19) show revealed that findings from a two-and-a-half year study into water quality at Lake Windermere, dubbed "one of the country's most picturesque spots", had been released. The findings demonstrated "really concerning pollution in England's largest and most famous lake", it was reported, with correspondent Juliet Dunlop broadcasting live from the location. "Some breaking news to bring you in the past few moments," presenter Sean Fletcher announced from the studio. "The results of a two-and-a-half year examination of water quality at one of the country's most picturesque spots have been revealed. "Testing of Windermere has revealed really concerning pollution in England's largest and most famous lake," reports the Mirror. Juliet elaborated: "This is an extensive survey that involved hundreds of volunteers who collected more than a thousand samples of water from right across Lake Windermere, some parts that had never been tested before. "They found levels of harmful bacteria including that fail water quality standards. They are particularly concerned about the pollution levels during summer months when Windermere is at its busiest and hot spots right along the shoreline. "Campaigners say decisive action is needed if Windermere is to improve and be protected for future generations." As the camera panned back to the studio, Sean responded: "That's really concerning in such a picturesque and beautiful, and really used, space. It really is," Adil concurred, while Kate chimed in: "It's so popular." Adil continued: "You can almost bear with how pollution might enter our rivers, but the lakes? They're not usually inhabited places, not a lot of people there necessarily." Expressing his lack of surprise at the news, he added: "That's really worrying. It's those treasures we're destroying before our eyes," Kate lamented. This follows Adil's return to Good Morning Britain which sparked mixed reactions among fans. One viewer commented on Monday (August 18): "I'll pass on that thanks," with another adding: "Nobody will get a word in with these two presenters. Switches over." A third echoed: "No thanks," while another similarly shared: "Worst pairing ever. You can do better than this." On the other hand, some viewers expressed their pleasure at Adil's appearance, with one person writing: "Yes! Love Adil! But to be honest all the @GMB presenters are really good." Another added: "I like this pairing on GMB. At heart, both exceptional interviewers," while a third said: "What a great pair today."
