PM explains Pakistan's anti-terror plan
Chairing a high-level meeting of the Steering Committee on Counter-Terrorism and Establishment of State Authority – referred to as the 'Harden the State' initiative – Sharif was joined by Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, senior military officials, and federal and provincial ministers. The meeting focused on strengthening national institutions and addressing threats posed by extremist groups labelled by the government as 'Fitna-al-Hindustan and Fitna-al-Khawarij'.
These terms, part of a broader psychological and semantic campaign, are used to delegitimise insurgent and terrorist actors.
'Our resolve to root out terrorism remains unshaken,' Sharif said, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office. 'The world recognises Pakistan's successful operations against terrorist elements, and we shall continue to build on this momentum.'
The government's strategy, described as 'comprehensive, effective and workable,' includes a blend of military action, legislative reform, and public engagement aimed at dismantling extremist networks.
Sharif cited operations such as Radd-ul-Fasaad and Zarb-e-Azb as 'historic victories' that have gained international recognition.
He called for effective coordination between federal and provincial authorities and directed full implementation of the committee's recommendations.
The prime minister emphasised the importance of ground operations, legal instruments, and efforts to combat extremist narratives in the public sphere.
Sharif also paid tribute to the country's armed forces and law enforcement agencies, calling them 'a source of pride for the entire nation.' In addition to terrorism, the committee reviewed other internal security concerns, including the smuggling of goods and the presence of undocumented immigrants.
Sharif reported progress in curbing smuggling and noted that these efforts were contributing positively to Pakistan's economic outlook. He also confirmed the ongoing repatriation of undocumented Afghan nationals, in line with international law.
'Only a terror-free, peaceful, and strong state structure can restore international investor confidence,' Sharif said. He linked recent security gains to economic reforms, pointing to increased digitisation, tax system improvements, a record surge in the Pakistan Stock Exchange, and improved global credit ratings as indicators of renewed investor trust.
Among those in attendance were Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, National Security Adviser and ISI Director General Lt Gen Asim Malik, Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema, Adviser on Inter-Provincial Coordination Rana Sanaullah, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, as well as chief secretaries, police chiefs, and senior officials from across the provinces.

'The federal government stands with the governments, administrations, and people of AJK and G-B during this difficult time,' he said, announcing that he would soon visit the flood-hit areas of G-B to express solidarity. He added a federal relief package would also be announced to compensate for the damages 'as much as possible.' He stressed that 'preventing further human and material loss must remain the top priority.' He also ordered immediate restoration of communication infrastructure, particularly roads, damaged by the floods. It is pertinent to mention that the G-B government has declared 37 flood-affected areas as calamity-hit zones and imposed an emergency to manage the crisis. Meanwhile, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik briefed the meeting on the nationwide impact of the monsoon season and upcoming weather forecasts for the region. More than 1,600 homes have been completely destroyed, while 376 livestock deaths have also been reported. He warned that rivers and streams were experiencing severe pressure due to continuous rainfall. Low-level flooding is anticipated in Tarbela, Chashma, Taunsa, and Kalabagh, while medium-level flooding is likely at Marala and Guddu on the Chenab River. Lt Gen Malik further cautioned that the monsoon season was expected to intensify towards the end of the month. 'NDMA is undertaking comprehensive preparations to ensure that effective preventive and relief measures are in place,' he told the meeting.

This is the third judgment among those delivered by Anti-Terrorism Courts in which the convict's entire property has been forfeited to the government. Previously, a Faisalabad court forfeited the properties of 90 convicts to the government, while 29 others had their properties forfeited by the Sargodha court under Section 7(2) of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997. Additionally, 50 other accused fled during the final arguments, leading to their case being separated from that of the remaining accused after proclamations were issued. Imran's sons awaiting ‘interior ministry's approval' for visas: Aleema
Sons of incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan — Sulaiman and Kasim — have applied for Pakistani visas, Imran's sister Aleema Khan said on Friday. In a post on X, Aleema said, 'A few days ago Suleiman and Kasim applied for their visas with the Pakistan high commission in London. The ambassador has intimated that he is awaiting approval from the ministry of interior in Islamabad.' In a statement last week, Aleema said that Kasim and Sulaiman held National Identity Cards for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOPs) and are expected to visit Pakistan soon to meet their imprisoned father. Imran Khan's sons coming to Pakistan, claims Aleema Khan Speaking to reporters outside Adiala Jail, she confirmed that both the sons of the ex-prime minister possessed valid travel documents and 'will come to see their father anytime soon.' However, she withheld specific dates, hinting at the fluidity and uncertainty surrounding their planned visits amid a politically charged environment. Government ministers have suggested the possibility that visa refusals might prevent the young men from entering the country. But Aleema dismissed such claims as a transparent ploy – a calculated attempt by authorities fearful that the presence of Imran's sons could galvanise public support and intensify demands for his release. 'This is nothing but political harassment and an infringement upon the rights of a Pakistani citizen,' she lamented. 'They want to isolate my brother, weaken his morale, and prevent the masses from seeing his condition. But we will not be intimidated.' She revealed that her sisters, Noreen Khan and Uzma Khan, were denied permission again to meet Imran. Previously, the Adiyala jail had allowed six visitors at a time; this was subsequently reduced to just two.
