Kusini Yengi to join Nicolas Milanovic at Scottish Premiership club
World Cup hopeful Kusini Yengi has joined fellow former Western Sydney Wanderers attacker Nicolas Milanovic at Scottish club Aberdeen.
Yengi, 26, spent the past two seasons at Portsmouth but wasn't offered a new contract by the English Championship outfit.
Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin was quick to pounce, securing the powerful striker on a three-year deal.
'He is tall, strong and quick, he will work hard for the team and lead the line,' Thelin said.
'He has also proven at both Portsmouth and with the Socceroos that he can score goals on a consistent basis.'
Yengi has netted six goals in 11 appearances for the Socceroos but was overlooked for the current national squad, which is set to secure FIFA World Cup qualification on Wednesday morning (AEST) against Saudi Arabia in Jeddah.
However, a strong season with Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership and the Europa League should help Yengi in his bid to be selected in the Socceroos squad for next year's World Cup should, as expected, Australia qualify.
'It feels great to be an Aberdeen player and I can't wait to get started,' he said.
'I'm looking forward to playing here for several years. The manager and staff have all been very positive and their enthusiasm was one of the main reasons I chose to come here.
'I loved the project that was pitched to me, what the manager and coaches want to achieve and what they stand for, (and) where they think they can utilise me as a player to help the club.
'Every kid dreams of playing European football and playing for big clubs like Aberdeen, so I am very excited to play in those competitions and represent Aberdeen.'
Yengi's move to the Dons comes less than a month after Milanovic also signed a multi-year deal with the club that upset Celtic in the recent Scottish Cup final.
Yengi and Milanovic spent half a season together at the Wanderers in 2023.
Another ex-Wanderer, goalkeeper Nicholas Suman, who also played for Macarthur FC, also joined Aberdeen in May after spending two years at Scottish lower league club Cove Rangers.

Milestone man Ryan thought Socceroos career was over
Socceroos goalkeeper Maty Ryan was sitting on the bench, thinking his international career was finished. It was November last year, and Ryan had started life under coach Tony Popovic as an unused substitute for three straight games as Joe Gauci took the lead in their World Cup qualifiers. Ryan couldn't convince Popovic after struggling for game time at former club AS Roma, before a hip injury to Gauci reopened the door. Now six months on, the 33-year-old nears his 100-cap milestone as Australia look to finally confirm their path to the 2026 tournament with a win over Saudi Arabia on Wednesday (AEST). He is the third-most capped Socceroo, behind fellow keeper Mark Schwarzer (109) and Tim Cahill (108). "There were definitely thoughts that I had there that I could well have played my last game for the national team," Ryan said on Monday. "If you look at perhaps every footballer's career - look at Cristiano Ronaldo and his time at Man United with (Erik) ten Hag there. He wasn't playing there either. "I don't think life or football discriminates against anyone in that regard. "No one is ever entitled to playing for a team. You've got to go out there and earn that right. "'I'm pretty proud of the fact that I've managed to find my way back in." The Socceroos are within touching distance of an automatic spot for the 2026 finals after a hard-earned 1-0 win over Japan in Perth. Saudi Arabia will only be able to snatch Australia's automatic spot if they manage a highly improbable win of five goals or more. Ryan was on the bench last time the Socceroos suffered a defeat of that magnitude, watching a side coached by Holger Osieck in a 6-0 horror friendly defeat to France in 2013. While Ryan wouldn't be drawn when asked about the now faint memory, he stuck close to the team's week-long 'no complacency' message. "At the end of the day, action speaks louder than words," Ryan said. "In life, anything is possible, so you can't take anything for granted "And by no means is the job finished." Ryan will notch the 100-game milestone after 13 years with the national team, earning his first call-up for the 2014 World Cup qualifier against the Saudis in 2012. "I'm always trying to make the next achievement the best one," Ryan said. "To be in the position we are right now, being a strong one, to go and have it right on our fingertips right now - it gives meaning to us footballers as to why we want to play "It's the most fulfilling and purposeful thing when you've got that success at your fingertips, and you obviously want to take that final last step to go and achieve it."

James McDonald confirmed for Rothfire's incredible Stradbroke Handicap bid
James McDonald is set to ride Rothfire in the Stradbroke Handicap as Rob Heathcote declared his wonder horse was 'back in the game' and a strong chance of winning a race against time to line up in Queensland's most prestigious race. Hopes had been low that the 'Thriller from Chinchilla' would recover from a foot injury in time to take his place in Saturday's $3m Stradbroke at Eagle Farm. • Lindsay Park's second gun joins vaunted attack on Stradbroke However, after working the Group 1 winner on Monday morning, Heathcote feels the courageous seven-year-old sprinter is now a decent chance of taking his place in the Stradbroke. SUBSCRIBE NOW and start punting like a pro! And Heathcote said 'James McDonald is confirmed to ride' in the latest twist in an extraordinary tale. Champion hoop McDonald sometimes has trouble netting a Stradbroke ride given the vast array of lightweights often in the field, but he will have no issue riding Rothfire at 55.5kg. 'Rothfire will of course have to pass the scrutiny of vets, but from what we saw this morning, he will,' Heathcote said. 'Rothfire was excellent this morning. 'He's done a lot of swimming and he still has to come through his Tuesday morning gallop well, but from what we saw this morning, nothing is beyond this warrior horse. 'He is one tough horse.' James McDonald has been booked to ride Rothfire in the Stradbroke Handicap. Picture: Getty Images The foot injury to Rothfire, which flared after he turned back the clock for an amazing runner-up finish behind Sunshine In Paris in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000, was only ever minor. But Heathcote said last week that although the foot infection had broken, he had felt Rothfire remained only a 'slim' chance of lining up in his third Stradbroke. • Zac on rare quest to score consecutive Stradbroke Handicaps However, there is now a growing sense of optimism. It is still far from ideal that Rothfire would be racing in a Stradbroke after missing a run in the Kingsford Smith Cup, but Heathcote said it wasn't a major issue. 'The Doomben 10,000 run was worth a week of fitness work and the swimming he has been doing has kept him up to the mark,' he said. 'His courage will fill in the cracks.' Heathcote will not make a decision as to whether he accepts with Rothfire in the Stradbroke until after a Tuesday morning track work session. Rothfire's odds in the Stradbroke have blown out since he has been under an injury cloud and he was a $34 chance on Monday morning. But after Racenet revealed Rothfire was a likely starter, and McDonald had been confirmed for the ride, Rothfire firmed to be a $21 chance. Rothfire became a Group 1 champion in 2020 when he won the JJ Atkins in his two-year-old season. He has won close to $3.5m in prizemoney, despite suffering several major injury setbacks including a sesamoid fracture several years ago which had threatened to end his career.
