As three FRU officers fight for life in ICU after deadly Teluk Intan crash, wives plead for prayers for their recovery
IPOH, May 15 — The wife of Corporal Haslizal Mohd Ali, one of the victims injured in the crash that claimed the lives of nine of his colleagues in Teluk Intan on Tuesday, has made an emotional plea to the public to pray for his recovery.
Siti Rafidah Kamis, 43, a teacher, said her husband who sustains injuries to his ribs and experiences lung complications is still unconscious in Teluk Intan Hospital intensive care unit.
'My husband had to be sedated. I'm in agony (over the situation), but I was told it's the best option for now to prevent him from feeling pain.
'Please pray for my husband's quick recovery. Our family misses him and we hope he will return to us soon,' said the mother of three when contacted today.
Siti Rafidah said the impact of the collision caused rib fractures that pierced her husband's lungs, leading to internal bleeding.
In the 8.50 am fatal accident, the FRU truck was involved in a collision with a stone-laden lorry along Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam, injuring nine other personnel.
Besides Haslizal, Sergeant Mazlan Mat, 50, and Corporal Mohd Izwan Ishak, 39, are also in critical condition and unconscious in the hospital ICU.
Corporal Mohammad Zulnaidi Muhammad Zullkifli, 34; Lance Corporal Muhammad Aniq Taufiq Rozi, 26; Corporal Mohd Harrisul Ikhsan Mohd Mahabudin, 39; and Sergeant Mohd Parih Ali, 44, are receiving treatment at the same hospital.
Meanwhile, the wife of Corporal Mohd Izwan, Nor Diyana Nor Mohamad, when contacted, said her husband sustains severe internal bleeding, abdominal trauma, kidney injuries and multiple broken bones.
Nor Diyana, 39, said Mohd Izwan sustains fractures to his collarbones, ribs and lower back, the extent of which has yet to be determined, adding that doctors conducted tube thoracostomy to drain blood from his lungs.
She said Mohd Izwan had participated in a running event at Pantai Remis last Sunday but complained of dizziness shortly after returning home.
'He told me he felt like vomiting, as if he had been shaken inside a boxy car. I told him it might be due to a lack of sleep. Looking back, perhaps it was an early sign that something was wrong,' she said, adding that she remains hopeful that her husband will regain consciousness and recover. — Bernama

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The bus in the Gerik crash that killed 15 university students was clearly speeding based on dashcam footage from a car, say police. Perak police chief Noor Hisam Nordin said investigators have received the footage from the owner of the car, whose statement will be taken soon, Harian Metro reported. 'The recording clearly shows how the bus was speeding. What made matters worse was when a road barrier penetrated the front of the bus after it toppled over. 'That is why passengers seated on the left side of the bus were among those who lost their lives, because the barrier penetrated all the way to the passenger seats. 'We leave it to our investigating officers to go through the recording and take the owner's statement,' said Noor Hisam. He added that the statements of survivors would also be taken, after several of the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students claimed the bus was speeding before the crash. He said the site of the crash was a downhill stretch of a hilly road and that the accident occurred around midnight after some rain. 'Based on my observation, there were no clear road markings and the area is very dark. We're still probing whether the cause of the crash was due to negligence or technical issues.' Noor Hisam also said most of the survivors were found in a drain next to the barrier, while the bodies of most of those killed were still in the bus after the crash. A total of 15 UPSI students died from the crash on the Gerik-Jeli East West Highway, near Tasik Banding. The bus was carrying 42 students, the bus driver and his assistant. A couple, along with their six-year-old daughter and three-year-old son, were travelling in a Perodua Alza the bus collided with.

PETALING JAYA : Muda acting president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz has been summoned to the Dang Wangi police station on June 18 over her involvement in last month's rally demanding the resignation of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Azam Baki. According to Amira, she will record her statement under Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act following an order from the Papar district police in Sabah. 'I have been summoned and investigated in connection with many previous peaceful assemblies,' she said in an X posting today. 'I remain steadfast in the struggle to bring truth and justice. As long as I can, I will continue to move forward with this struggle.' On the night of May 25, some 60 protesters marched to Dataran Merdeka to protest Azam's third-term extension as MACC chief. The participants, who included representatives from NGOs such as rights group Suaram, electoral reform group Bersih and political parties like Muda and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM), marched from the Sogo shopping complex just after 8pm. At the rally, Amira had called for greater transparency from the government and not to weaponise the anti-graft agency.

Bus driver in Gerik fatal crash had 18 traffic summonses, say cops

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Police revealed that the bus driver involved in the crash that killed 15 students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) yesterday had a record of 18 traffic summonses. Bukit Aman traffic investigation and enforcement department director Yusri Hassan Basri said 13 of the summonses were for speeding, three for not wearing a seatbelt, one for not having a third brake light, and another for involvement in a previous accident, Sinar Harian reported. Earlier, Yusri announced that a special task force would be formed to investigate the crash. It will comprise the police, the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research, the road transport department, the Land Public Transport Agency, and other relevant bodies. 'We will complete the investigation papers as soon as possible. Our investigation will be thorough and cover all aspects, including the driver's past offences, background, activities and career history,' he said. Fifteen UPSI students were killed when the bus travelling from Jertih, Terengganu, to the university's campus in Tanjung Malim, Perak, crashed into the rear of a Perodua Alza, veered off the road, and overturned along the East-West Highway near Tasik Banding early yesterday morning.
