3 underrated Steelers defenders to watch at training camp

Yahoo5 days ago
Steelers training camp is just around the corner — and there are plenty of unsung heroes for fans to keep their eyes on, specifically on defense. From T.J. Watt's protégé to an inside linebacker returning from injury, here are three of the most underrated defenders to watch closely in Latrobe.
OLB Nick Herbig
Herbig is one of the most underrated edge rushers in the NFL — but it's hard to imagine he stays that way for long. His teammates regard him as one of the hardest-working players on the roster, a true sponge of the game — and it doesn't hurt when your mentor is T.J. Watt. Expect Herbig to turn heads early at training camp and potentially compete for more pass-rush opportunities in 2025.
NT Keeanu Benton
The Steelers went to great lengths to rebuild their defensive line this offseason — with new faces stealing some of the spotlight from third-year nose tackle Keeanu Benton. Steelers rookies DT Derrick Harmon and DT Yahya Black are massive pieces of the retooled unit, but Benton has steadily improved each year in the NFL and could show signs of a Year 3 breakout at training camp.
LB Cole Holcomb
When healthy, Cole Holcomb is one of the most efficient linebackers in the league — showing real promise with Pittsburgh before a knee injury set him back almost two seasons. Many expect big things out of LBs Patrick Queen and Payton Wilson this upcoming season — but Holcomb's potential return to form at training camp could force the Steelers to begin planning to use a three-man rotation more often than not.

2025 free agent rankings, questions from the mailbag & Heart and Hustle Awards

Subscribe to Baseball Bar-B-Cast Apple Podcasts | Spotify | YouTube Jake's 2025 free agent rankings are in. Is Kyle Schwarber really ahead of Pete Alonso? Guest host, Bailey Freeman, aka Foolish Baseball, pinch hits for Jordan Shusterman and gives his thoughts on Jake's list. Where does he agree and disagree with the rankings mid-season? The Yankees lost again, and this time Aaron Judge was in the lineup. The guys give their thoughts on the situation in the Bronx and take a look, maybe regrettably so, at the Yankees mentions following their 2-0 loss to the Rangers on this week's "Sorry for Your Mentions." You provided the questions and now Jake and Bailey will provide the answers. They reach into the mailbag and answer some questions from the audience! Do MLB players get jury duty? What other non-baseball stadiums should host a game? How exactly should we be evaluating MLB managers? The guys discuss. The Heart and Hustle Award, possibly MLB's least talked about award, is given out by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association to the player who demonstrates a passion for the game of baseball and best embodies the values, spirit and traditions of the game. Each team has a winner, and then an overall winner is selected from each of the 30 individual team winners. Bailey tries to guess each team's choice. Jordan will do the same on Friday. Who knows ball more? We will find out. Join us on this mid-week edition of Baseball Bar-B-Cast. Packers-Lions season opener draws top broadcast crew at CBS

The Green Bay Packers' season opener against the Detroit Lions will get the top broadcasting crew at CBS. The Week 1 showdown, which is scheduled for a 3:25 p.m. local kickoff time from Lambeau Field on Sunday, Sept. 7, will get Jim Nantz and Tony Romo in the booth and Tracy Wolfson on the sideline for CBS. Being the top game on CBS should mean a majority of the country gets to see Packers-Lions in Week 1. The only other competing game in the same time slot on CBS is Texans-Rams, another terrific matchup. Although the network only announced the first three weeks, Week 1 likely won't be the only time the Packers get the best from CBS in 2025. Matt LaFleur's team plays Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals in the 3:25 p.m. time slot on CBS in Week 6 and the upstart Denver Broncos in the 3:25 p.m. time slot on CBS in Week 15.
