Steelers edge defenders T.J. Watt and Nick Herbig rolling in style at training camp
When it comes to the Pittsburgh Steelers training camp, you never know what you are going to see. As players arrive on Wednesday. We've seen Rolls-Royces, tractors, and everything in between. And now we have E-bikes. Steelers edge defender Nick Herbig showed up to training camp on Wednesday with not one but two E-bikes in tow. According to ESPN reporter Brooke Pryor, the smaller bike, as seen in the post below, belongs to Herbig, and he was just hauling the larger bike for fellow edge defender T.J. Watt. The Steelers are in their 55th year of training camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. The players always bring some of their comforts of home as the team, for the most part, stays in the dorms for the entire training camp. There have been notable exceptions over the years, but it's good to see Watt, the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, is willing to bunk up with his teammates on campus and isn't demanding any special treatment. Wednesday is check-in day with the team's first training camp practice scheduled for Thursday, July 24.

Steelers' T.J. Watt, Nick Herbig go viral in new training picture ahead of record deal
T.J. Watt is here to stay — and just hours before his record-setting deal made headlines, he was already making waves on social media with fellow Wisconsin Badger and Steelers OLB Nick Herbig. Pittsburgh's superstar edge rusher took to Instagram to post a workout photo alongside Herbig. Grinning ear to ear next to his protege, it was clear Watt already knew his historic extension was set in stone and would be reported later in the day. Watt, who just became the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL with his new three-year, $123 million extension, has continued to mentor Herbig under his wing since the Steelers drafted the young outside linebacker in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The two Steelers will team with starting ROLB Alex Highsmith and rookie Jack Sawyer to form one of the most stacked edge-rushing units in the NFL — made possible for the foreseeable future now that Watt has put pen to paper with Pittsburgh. Steelers countdown to kickoff — No. 51: a history of the number and who wore it best
The Steelers countdown to kickoff is here — and we're at 51 days until Pittsburgh faces off against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. In the spirit of the countdown, we're taking a look at the history of No. 51 and the players who wore it best. Current Steelers No. 51 wearer: LB Nick Herbig Nick Herbig, one of the most underrated Steelers on defense, currently wears No. 51 on the roster. Drafted with the 132nd pick in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Herbig burst onto the scene as an explosive pass rusher, with shades of his mentor, T.J. Watt, evident throughout his game. Over the past two seasons, Herbig was seen more and more opportunity on defense — with 2025 potentially serving as the season all the pieces align for the third-year edge rusher. Last five Steelers to wear No. 51: Best No. 51 in Steelers history: LB James Farrior No Steeler has worn No. 51 better than James Farrior. Drafted by the New York Jets with the 8th overall pick in the first round of the 1997 NFL Draft, Farrior signed with Pittsburgh in 2002 — where he would go on to become one of the most dependable inside linebackers in Steelers history. In his 10 seasons in the Steel City, from 2002 to 2011, Farrior produced 1,085 combined tackles, 82 tackles for loss, 30 sacks, and 12 forced fumbles in 154 games — all of which were starts. He won two Super Bowls with Pittsburgh, as well as earning First-Team All-Pro and Second-Team All-Pro selections, and was named to two Pro Bowls. Farrior was later inducted into the Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Honor — and it's his consistency, as well as his dedication to excellence, that make him the definitive choice as the greatest Steeler to ever wear No. 51. T.J. Watt works out with Steelers teammate amid contract drama
Despite his future with the Pittsburgh Steelers being in an uncertain place, T.J. Watt is still working out with his teammates. The superstar edge rusher posted a picture of himself and Steelers linebacker Nick Herbig on his Instagram story on Thursday, and it looks like the pair just finished a workout. Watt, who is entering the final year of his deal in 2025, skipped mandatory minicamp in June due to a contract dispute with the Steelers. The 30-year-old wants to become the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL with his next contract, and Pittsburgh could be hesitant to give him a historic deal due to his age and slight decline in 2024. Since entering the league in 2017, Watt has tallied the most sacks in the NFL (108) and has also tallied seven double-digit sack seasons. The seven-time Pro Bowler also tied Michael Strahan's record for most sacks in a season (22.5) in 2021. With the Steelers set to report for training camp on Wednesday, there has to be more urgency from general manager Omar Khan to get a deal done with this franchise player. It's unknown whether Watt will hold out of camp, but given that he didn't show up to minicamp in June, there's a solid chance the Wisconsin product isn't there for the start of training camp if he doesn't receive a new contract. Steelers' Broderick Jones isn't ready for LT yet: 'I think I need a couple more weeks'
Broderick Jones needs a few more weeks until he's ready to start at LT — and he'll be the first to admit it. After practice at mandatory minicamp, Jones was asked by reporters to share how the offseason practices have been going — and here was his response (courtesy of Steelers Live): Advertisement "I think it went as good as it could go," Jones said. "You know, with everything going on — with me moving back to [LT] from [RT]. I still got a couple more weeks to hone in on my skills and continue to develop on the left side — and come in ready for [training camp]." A few questions later, Jones was asked if he'd be ready to start games at LT tomorrow — and he was brutally honest about his current abilities: "If I'm being honest, I think I probably do need a couple more weeks," Jones said. "Not saying I'd be bad, but just for me. Just to feel like I'm in the mindset to play an actual game — versus somebody else other than going against Alex Highsmith or Nick [Herbig]." The Steelers are hopeful that switching Jones back to his natural position at left tackle will help get the 2023 first-rounder back on track — as he gave up the second-most sacks in the NFL last season from right tackle.
