Ahmedabad-Diu IndiGo flight cancelled due to ‘technical snag' shortly before take-off

A short haul Diu-bound IndiGo flight was cancelled shortly before its take-off from Ahmedabad on Wednesday morning owing to a 'technical snag', airline officials said. IndiGo flight 6E 7966, which was scheduled to fly from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad to Diu Airport in the Union Territory, was cancelled at the last minute after the pilot 'called the flight off' having noticed a 'technical issue'. While an 'engine fire' was widely reported as the cause for the flight being called off, a statement by the airline, however, makes no mention of it. Sources at the Ahmedabad airport have also rejected such claims. A statement released by the airline said, 'A technical snag indication was noticed just before take-off on IndiGo flight 6E 7966 operating from Ahmedabad to Diu on 23 July 2025. Following the standard operating procedure, the pilots informed the authorities and returned the aircraft to the bay. The aircraft will undergo necessary checks and maintenance before resuming operations. We regret the inconvenience caused to our customers and are making all efforts to minimize it by offering them refreshments, accommodation in the next available flight or full refund against cancellation, as per their preference. As always, safety of our customers and crew remains the top priority at IndiGo.' Sources at the airport, when asked if there had been a fire in the aircraft which is an ATR-72 Turboprop, and about the emergency measures taken for the same and the impact on other flights, said that there was no fire in the engine. A source said, 'The aircraft taxied onto the runway for take-off. However, during the pre-flight checks, the pilot appears to have found a technical problem and so he informed the ATC and returned the aircraft to its bay.' While the Ahmedabad airport did not issue a formal statement, sources confirmed that no other flights were affected due to the incident.

Ebix Tech secures Rs 140 crore contract from Maharashtra Transport Corp

In November 2022, the company was awarded a contract to supply and maintain 38,622 Android-based Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETMs) integrated with an online reservation system. Once fully operational, the project is expected to clock transactional volumes to the tune of Rs 2,000 crore annually, boosting the entity's digital transaction ecosystem and passenger convenience, Ebix Technologies Limited, earlier known as EbixCash, said in a statement. Mumbai, Jul 22 (PTI) Ebix Technologies, Indian subsidiary of Eraaya Lifespaces, on Tuesday announced securing a Rs 140 crore contract from Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation for the first state-wide rollout of the National Common Mobility Card for concessionaires in India. This mandate has successfully facilitated the issuance of approximately 220 crore passenger tickets in the past two years, Ebix Technologies said, adding that this network spans MSRTC's fleet of over 16,000 buses, serving more than 13 crore passengers monthly across urban and rural Maharashtra. The newly-awarded National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) programme expands this partnership with a focus on smart and interoperable payments that will revolutionise how millions travel daily, it said. Spearheaded by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the initiative enables passengers to use a single smartcard across multiple transport modes, creating a truly integrated mobility ecosystem, Ebix said. 'With the NCMC rollout, we are not just introducing another payment method. We are fundamentally reimagining how citizens experience everyday travel across Maharashtra,' a company spokesperson said. The project includes mandatory adoption of the NCMC smartcard for all concessional passengers and pass holders on MSRTC buses, with optional availability for regular passengers, a minimum business assurance of 70 lakh NCMC cards to be sold in the first year alone, scaling to over 2 crore cards issued statewide through a network of 3,000 dedicated retail outlets established by Ebix Technologies, among others. Ahmedabad-Diu IndiGo Flight Aborts Take-Off Due To Technical Snag

Ahmedabad: A Diu-bound IndiGo flight from Ahmedabad carrying around 50 passengers and crew members aborted take-off at the last minute on Wednesday due to a technical issue, sources said. As per the schedule, the flight was supposed to depart around 11.15 am from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, they said. The aircraft was in the take-off roll phase when the pilot decided to stop it on the runway. "A technical snag indication was noticed just before the take-off on IndiGo flight 6E7966 operating from Ahmedabad to Diu on July 23," IndiGo said in a statement. Following the standard operating procedure, the pilots informed the authorities and returned the aircraft to bay, it said. The aircraft will undergo necessary checks and maintenance before resuming operations, it said. The airline also said it will accommodate the passengers in the next available flight or will provide a full refund against cancellation, as per their preference. An airport official said the IndiGo flight was cancelled due to some technical issues. "When the aircraft began its take-off roll, the pilots took a decision to stop it due to some technical reasons," a source said. All the 50-odd passengers and crew members are safe, he said. This is the third incident involving an IndiGo aircraft in the last few days. On July 21, an IndiGo flight from Goa with 140 passengers on board made an emergency landing at the Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport in Madhya Pradesh's Indore due to a landing gear issue. Prior to that on July 17, a Goa-bound IndiGo flight from Delhi made an emergency landing in Mumbai after being diverted to it due to a mid-air engine failure. The flight was being operated with an Airbus A320neo aircraft. On June 12, an Air India flight to London Gatwick crashed within seconds of its take-off from the Ahmedabad airport, killing 241 of the 242 passengers and crew members on board and 19 persons on ground.
