Boots shoppers say this £10 'firming' cream is an 'alternative to Botox'

Daily Record6 days ago
"Amazing!!! Completely makes my skin glow and I look younger! What more could you want?!"
It's officially £10 Tuesday for Boots shoppers today (July 22). That means beauty fans can save big on some top-rated products - but for one day only.
For those who want to get younger looking skin without going under the knife, one product that is worth adding to the online shopping cart is the Olay Regenerist Day Face Cream & Serum 2-in-1.
Billed as "an alternative to Botox", this dual-action product would usually set shoppers back £30 for a 50ml, but since it is included in the retailer's flash-sale, they can save an impressive £20.
Looking to cut back on multiple skincare steps? Then this multi-tasking formula combines the benefits of a day cream and serum in one, leaving skin "instantly hydrated for 24 hours."
Designed to firm, renew and hydrate, it uses the brand's Microsculpting Technology that is packed with "powerful" peptides and 99 percent pure niacinamide to penetrate 10 layers deep, reducing deep wrinkles and fine lines.
It also uses glycerin, a hydrating ingredient that can help the skin to retain moisture, with 97 percent of users saying they had "smoother feeling skin in just one day."
Skincare enthusiasts looking for a similar dual-action product that targets dull-looking skin can alternatively check out Garnier SkinActive Vitamin C 2in1 Brightening Serum Cream SPF 25 (50ml), just £14 at Sainsbury's.
As for double the wrinkle-busting benefits, the L'Oréal Paris Serum Le Duo (30ml), £38 on Amazon, uses two different serums, one with a collagen peptide booster, the other with vitamins B3 and C, to reverse the signs of ageing by "five years."
Nevertheless, Olay's 2-in-1 Face Cream and Serum has earned an impressive 4.5 rating based on 419 Boots reviews that praise "firming" formula that has made them "look younger."
One five-star review read: "I have been using Olay Regenerist Serum for years! I'm not sure if it can reduce wrinkles? But using it daily has certainly helped to protect my skin in the aging process! (I'm now 63, looking a decade younger). Definitely an alternative to Botox, which has worked for me! Thank You OLAY!!"

A second read: "I love this product, it feels so good on the skin and has definitely firmed up the skin around my jaw line, it's fantastic. It has also reduced the look of my lines, a 'magic' serum in my books!"
Someone else praised: "After four days of using the sample my skin felt silky and smooth. My wrinkles were noticeably softer. This product has a refreshing smell and makes you look & feel great - I would definitely recommend and continue to use."
Beauty deal of the week
YSL Black Opium remains an iconic perfume - and we know where to bag the newest edition for its cheapest price.
The YSL BLack Opium Le Parfum offers a more vanilla-heavy fragrance that has been hailed as "intoxicating" in reviews, with a 50ml now half-price at Boots after being dropped from £115 to £57.50.
Massive saving aside, it's the cheapest it can be bought for at the moment, as rival retailers Superdrug, Lookfantastic and The Perfume Shop still stock it at full-price.
This interpretation of the iconic perfume was only launched in 2022, with its original floral gourmand fragrance still offering its famed notes that include pear accord, green mandarin, orange flower petals, jasmine sambac and cinnamon.
However, the iconic coffee accord has been twisted with four different, yet still complimentary, notes of vanilla, which is said to be its most important ingredient, to create an "unexpected smoothness, with uncompromising intensity."
Meanwhile, the unique glossy bottle that has been crafted from a precious black stone, with its dazzling glitter emblem at the heart, eludes to the luxuriousness of the fragrance contained within.
As for the YSL Black Opium Le Parfum, Boots shoppers wanting to take advantage of the half-price discount will be glad to hear it has amassed a 4.7 rating from thousands of customers who say it "lasts all day" and "literally turns heads" when it is worn.
One five-star review read: "I love the fragrance. I used a lot the first time, not realising how intense it was. It lasts all day and continues to smell great. I literally turn heads when I wear it."
Don't miss Boots' half-price discount on the YSL Black Opium Le Parfum (50ml) that is now £57.50, down from £115.
The "rich" texture of the cream has been a drawback for some skin types, as one two-star review read: "Although this felt nice and moisturising on application, the following day it felt greasy and left my skin with small cream filled spots. Too rich for my skin."
Comparatively, someone who didn't have an issue with the texture said: "A product with a result. My skin looks brighter, cleaner and clearer. Non-greasy, easily absorbed and you need to use only two drops. A winner."

Medik8 20% off sale includes 'Botox in a bottle' anti-ageing serum

'People ask if I've had Botox or fillers, and I say no, it's the amazing products of Medik8' Medik8 has carved out a reputation for its effective, high-performance skincare, winning over beauty editors, skincare professionals and fans alike. But while the products pack a punch, they can also come with a price tag, with some of its bestselling formulas reaching up to £99 a bottle. So I was pleased to spot a rare 20% off sale across the site, including one of its most buzzed-about serums: the Liquid Peptides Advanced MP, which is now £63.20 down from £79. Described as 'Botox in a bottle' by shoppers, it's clinically proven to lessen the appearance of expression lines in 10 minutes and deep-set wrinkles within eight weeks. The brand claims that the multi-peptide complex provides a 'filler-like effect' while also supporting long-term collagen production. Judging by the reviews, it's clearly working - the product has racked up an impressive 4.9-star rating with shoppers. One reviewer said: "Using it morning and night, my skin looks and feels nourished, plumper and smoother. Using Medik8 products has significantly improved my skin. People ask if I've had Botox or fillers, and I say no, it's the amazing products of Medik8." Another chimed in: "This product is unbelievably effective. Almost overnight, my wrinkles smoothed out and my skin had an amazing glow, never before achieved with a topical product. I am now about a quarter through my first bottle, and I can honestly say the difference is remarkable." However, someone else said: "Too runny, and no noticeable improvement. Nothing special." For those curious about peptides but want to explore other options, there are several highly rated alternatives available. The Ordinary's Multi-Peptide + HA Serum (£15.90) is a budget-friendly favourite that combines peptides with hydrating hyaluronic acid. Otherwise, Paula's Choice Pro-Collagen Multi-Peptide Booster (£46.40, originally £58) is a silky booster that can be mixed into moisturiser or used alone to improve firmness and fine lines. It has been clinically proven to visibly smooth lines in 15 minutes and visibly firm, plump, and reduce wrinkles in a month. Back to the Medik8 sale, another standout is my personal favourite: C-Tetra Luxe, down to £47.20 from £59. This vitamin C serum is a staple in my morning routine thanks to its fast-absorbing texture and visible brightening effects. Medik8 uses a stabilised form of vitamin C called tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, which they claim delivers visible radiance after just one use. It also has a strong 4.9-star rating, proving its effectiveness. A shopper wrote: "Amazing results. My skin feels refreshed, I use this every morning and it has improved the dark marks on my skin and made my skin look more even toned, and it has improved the brightness of my skin." Someone else left a mixed review, noting: "I love this product. It makes my skin look bright and firm. However, this serum is quite oily for my combined skin type, so I use 2-3 drops only during the cold season." Someone else added: "Love this stuff. It's been a game-changer for my skin. It is oily when first applied, but is quickly absorbed, leaving skin glowing and not greasy at all. Had little dry patches and this has sorted that as well as added a brightness to new skin. And it smells gorgeous."

Donald Trump sparks health fears after mystery mark spotted during Scotland visit

Fresh fears have been raised over the health of Donald Trump after he was once again seen with thick concealer covering his hand. Donald Trump has once again been pictured with a mystery mark on his hand, sparking fresh questions about the president's health. ‌ The latest photos, taken during his meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Sunday, show what appears to be concealer smeared on his right hand, reports the Mirror. ‌ It comes just weeks after the White House confirmed Trump has been diagnosed with 'chronic venous insufficiency', a circulatory issue where veins in the legs fail to efficiently return blood to the heart. ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Earlier in July, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt read out a doctor's letter about Trump which she said was intended to dispel health concerns about swelling in his ankles and make-up spotted on his hand.# She said the 79-year-old had complained of 'mild swelling' in his lower legs and was checked over by the White House medical unit. Tests showed no signs of deep vein thrombosis or artery problems, but the former President is now confirmed to suffer from the common circulatory issue. ‌ Leavitt also claimed the bruising on Trump's hand, which was clearly concealed by make-up, was is 'consistent' with irritation from his 'frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin.' Ms Leavitt said: 'The president remains in excellent health '. Trump's physician, Sean Barbabella, backed that up in his official report saying the bruises were "consistent with minor soft tissue irritation from frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin'. He said aspirin was taken as 'part of a standard cardiovascular prevention regimen', calling the bruising a side effect of aspirin treatment. Despite the questions over his health, Trump declared he had sealed "the biggest deal ever made" between the US and the European Union following his talks with von der Leyen. The former President is now expected to meet Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer at Turnberry today, with the two set to discuss steel levies. Starmer is expected to spend most of the day with Trump. Starmer and Scotland's First Minister John Swinney also plan to urge the US president to apply pressure on Israel to allow more humanitarian aid into Gaza, where the population is facing starvation. The PM has condemned Israel for restricting the flow of aid into the territory, alongside the leaders of France and Germany. The UK will take part in efforts led by Jordan to airdrop aid into Gaza, Starmer said over the weekend.

Should your dog should be allowed to sleep in your bed? Vet expert weighs in

A vet has offered some much needed clarity on the subject of letting your dog in bed which can pose some issues Dog owners are often divided when it comes to bedtime routines. Some find comfort in having their furry friend curled up next to them, while others prefer to keep their pets out of the bedroom. ‌ This can be due to concerns about boundaries, cleanliness, allergies, or interrupted sleep. Saying that, according to Silentnight, a massive 75 per cent of people surveyed said they snuggle up in their bed with their beloved pooch. ‌ And almost a quarter of them do this every single night despite the risk of a hairy duvet and losing space to their pet. However, a seasoned vet has shed some light on this matter. ‌ In an article for PetMD, a reliable source for veterinary advice and pet health information, Dr. Sandra Mitchell provided crucial guidance on whether it's sensible to allow your dog in bed. She explained that there isn't a one-size-fits-all answer, and the decision should be based on the dog's behaviour, breed, and the owner's individual needs and lifestyle. ‌ Sharing a bed with a dog can enhance the bond between owner and pet, providing comfort, warmth, and a sense of security. Many owners also find that having their dog nearby alleviates anxiety and helps establish a soothing bedtime routine. However, dogs tend to be light sleepers and may frequently wake during the night, which could disturb their owner's rest if they too are a light sleeper, reports the Express. Allergies can also worsen when dogs sleep in close proximity due to pet dander and allergens building up in bedding. ‌ The expert recommends pet owners ensure their dog is fully house trained, emotionally mature, and able to settle peacefully through the night before inviting them into the bed. Establishing clear boundaries from the outset is crucial, and it's often easier to start with strict rules and relax them later than to try and change established habits. ‌ She also suggests that dogs should have their own safe and comfortable sleeping area, even if they are occasionally allowed on the bed. This provides both the pet and owner with greater flexibility in the long run. If situations alter, such as the onset of allergies, a new partner moving in, or changes in a dog's health, transitions can be made much more smoothly. ‌ It's also vital to consider health risks. Dogs can carry intestinal parasites, fleas, and ticks that cause illnesses in humans. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Sleeping with your dog increases exposure to these parasites and vector-borne diseases, especially for very young, elderly, or immune compromised individuals. That said, exposure to pets may also help build immunity in healthy individuals, according to the Sleep Foundation. To reduce risks, regularly groom your dog, use a mattress protector, and wash your bedding frequently. By considering your dog's temperament, training, and health along with your own lifestyle and medical needs, you can make a decision that benefits both of you.
