"As long as I'm able, and my hand is not fractured, I will soldier on. Anyway, I couldn't bear watching my teammates play without me, so I just endured the pain.
"I wanted to be replaced but, at the same time, I also knew I could play on. However, luck was not on our side and we lost,' he told reporters after the final last night.
With Malaysia trailing 6-9 in the first set, Azlan sprained his hand when he mistimed his landing.
That clearly affected the Malaysian regu's rhythm as Azlan, together with tekong Mohammad Syahir Mohd (server) Rosdi and apit kiri Amirul Zazwan Azmi (feeder) lost the first set 11-15.
Although they bounced back to take the second set 15-12, the Malaysian challenge, however, ended when they went down fighting 15-17 in the decider.
Azlan said he is awaiting a detailed checkup to assess the extent of his injury, adding that he is proud of the fighting spirit shown by his teammates despite their failure to win the team regu title.

SIC eyes record-breaking crowd for Malaysian GP
KUALA LUMPUR: Sepang International Circuit (SIC) is sticking to their target of attracting 200,000 fans over three-days at the Petronas Grand Prix of Malaysia (Malaysian GP) on October 24-26. SIC chief executive officer Azhan Shafriman Hanif admits it is a lofty target but is determined to make it happen this year. The Malaysian GP achieved a record three-day attendance of 184,923 last year. RM1 from each ticket sold will be channeled to the National Sports Trust Fund (KWASN) which will support the development of Malaysian athletes. A special buy one free one ticket promotion is currently being held for Malaysian GP Rahmah Tickets which are priced at RM49.90 each. The promotion, which started at 8pm today (Aug 12), is only for 24 hours.

Zulaikah swings back into contention with birdie finish
Malaysia's trio of Zulaikah Nasser, Aretha Pan and Genevieve Ling have given themselves a fighting chance to secure a dream LPGA Tour start at the Maybank Championship in October after a solid opening round today. Zulaikah carded an even-par 72 to share second place with Thai amateur Achiraya Sriwong, both trailing another Thai amateur, Kritchanya Kaopattanaskul, by five strokes after she fired a stunning 67 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC). Zulaikah said: "I feel pretty good about my round although it was very up and down. "I think I did well through the first eight holes and then on nine and 10, I bogeyed both holes. Aretha and Genevieve each returned a 73 to sit in a four-way tie for third alongside Thailand's Chanakim Khamborn and Namo Luangnitkul, heading into today's decisive final 18 holes. Malaysia Techlympics draws 1.4 million annual participants since 2022
KUALA TERENGGANU: The Malaysia Techlympics programme has consistently attracted nearly 1.4 million participants each year since its inception in 2022. Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Mohamad Yusof Apdal revealed participation figures of 1.03 million in 2022, 1.82 million in 2023 and 1.31 million so far in 2024. The hybrid format combining physical and online events since June has expanded accessibility across the country. Mohamad Yusof said this approach supports broader community involvement in advancing Malaysia's science, technology and innovation goals. He spoke during the East Coast Zone Malaysia Techlympics 2025 launch at Terengganu Science and Creativity Centre. The programme aligns with the National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Action Plan 2021-2030's emphasis on inclusive STI awareness. Malaysia Techlympics competitions cover emerging technologies like AI, IoT, drones, coding and robotics for participants aged seven to 30. The ongoing East Coast Zone event has drawn over 2,000 participants from 120 schools across Terengganu, Kelantan and Pahang. Mohamad Yusof highlighted the programme's rural outreach ensuring STEM education access for underserved communities. More than 1,500 students and 1,000 teachers from East Coast states have participated in training sessions, including virtual and physical Training of Trainers programmes.
